Pros:
Good for early season practice in the high country, when other nearby courses are still buried in snow. Lots of big open spaces to huck as hard as you can. Hole 3 basket is near hole 1 tee for putting practice. The back nine is more interesting, with the Eagle River ready to swallow your discs in several spots. Large horse facility has bathrooms nearby. Plenty of parking.
Cons:
Often very windy, especially the front 9. Several holes are just downright boring (#6, #7?) - a basket in the middle of a big flat field. Easy to throw your arm out on the monster drives. Some thick brush on the back 9 can also swallow discs. A gravel pit operation has consumed many features that made this course more fun over the years, and can kick up quite a bit of dust.
Other Thoughts:
This course has potential. At one time it did have lots of elevation to play off, but that has all been flattened by the gravel pit, which also destroyed the wind breaks. Expansion of the fairgrounds rodeo has put a parking lot in the fairways of holes 1, 11 and 12. Hole 12 should be moved all together at this point. Hole 13 is a downhill with the Eagle River directly behind the pin, and has taken a half-dozen of my discs (be careful during high water!). It might be easier to play the back nine first to warm up your arm before the epic distances on the front nine (again, once upon a time most of the tees were elevated). The tee for hole 2 is difficult to determine now the gravel pit has expanded - we play off the road above #1 for a long downhill. This course needs some love, and a new re-design would make it fun again. I don't recommend playing in mid-summer unless the fields get mowed, or you're in for a long day of searching... Play Vail Mtn, Beaver Creek, or Leadville if you have a choice.
