Nice for a Newbie 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 27, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

I need to say that I am a newbie at the sport. I have only been playing for a few months. With that being said this is not a bad course if you are new because there are very few obstacles or people around, at least there wasn't this morning.

This actually is a great course if you want to practice a particular shot as I did this morning. My forehand sucks so it was great for me to throw that shot through the nine holes.

Another nice thing about this course is that it's fast. I was in and out in less than an hour. If you have a hour or so to kill and you are in the area it's worth the trip.

The concrete tee pads are in great shape and the maps are awesome! Left half is an actual photograph from the tee and the right side is the map of the course. Thank you Elk Grove!!

Cons:

If you are a veteran of the sport I wouldn't play here. There are no trees, no mando's and no obstacles outside of the occasional person walking their dog.

I think it would be a better course if the baskets weren't permanent. There are a few trees and moving the baskets occasionally would be more of an enticement to play. The back 1/2 of the 9 is just dirt and they certainly could plant trees like Marconi has done lately.

Other Thoughts:

A few great things about the course. It's a pretty course and seems to be clean and well kept. There are bathrooms that are very clean (thank you Elk Grove!) with soap and running water. I also spotted water fountains throughout the course. I didn't need it so I don't know if they actually work but it was nice to see.

If you are going to go I would go in the morning during the summer months because there is basically no shade.

A course suited to working on your technique 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 20, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

1) Decent size teepads
2) Bathroom on site by the parking lot
3) Great variety of lengths from 200-400 feet
4) Signs on each hole, tell you what hole you're on and the direction of the next hole
5) The flow of the course, basket of last hole near the teepad of next hole, was pretty fluid
6) Practice basket near first hole

Cons:

1) Vegetation can hide discs well, albeit a wide open area
2) Holes 4 and 7 are in the general direction of the sidewalk/street, so you must be careful of your throws

Other Thoughts:

The Park/Rec district didn't finish mowing the lawn of the course, which led to extra time being spent looking for discs, even though they were being tracked. Easy to find since it's right down the street from Elk Grove High school. There are a few walkways that run through the course, so be careful of park pedestrians. More of a beginner to slightly knowledgeable beginner course. Very few obstacles, trees come into play on 2, 3 and 8.

Good Practice Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 24, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice park setting. Nine Mach III (or maybe IV) baskets and teepads. Short and most holes are wide open. Holes two is long with trees in front (only hole unreachable by average players) and hole three is a fun short anhyzer or a tunnel shot through trees. Lots of ace runs here. Practice basket and bathrooms near 1st teepad. Good beginner course.

Cons:

Too short and open. The park gave up the least interesting area for this course. Not challenging to experienced players.

Other Thoughts:

Once a month this course becomes a lot more fun and challenging. The Chainrackers host a $5 handicapped tournament with 18 alternate tees for 27 holes of disc golf fun. The alternates are not marked (except for tournaments), but provide extra distance and challenges to each hole. Tournaments are 2nd Sat. at 8:00 a.m.

Fun, no crowds 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 2, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

IN Elk Grove Park just a couple minutes off HWY 99. Starts and ends by pool. 9 holes all with good tees and signs. Not much cross traffic. Very basic course with little to no obstacles to speak of. Impossible to lose disc unless you really and I mean really shank one off #1 and into the lake.

Cons:

None I can really come up with. Maybe cut the weeds in the field that covers 99 percent of the course, but thats a stretch for a con

Other Thoughts:

Restrooms, nice park and everything you expect with a nice city park. Free parking. Practice basket tucked on the east side of pool between the pool and the path to hole 1.
If your passing by stop and bust 9

Surprisingly Fun 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 17, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

- fun first half layout
- it has signs and good baskets
- nice practice basket
- it plays fast and there aren't many other people there, disc golfers or otherwise
- the park has potential to have a great 18 hole layout if someone did a redesign and they could use more of the parkland farther away from the road
- lots of other park attractions, like a pool and nice bathrooms

Cons:

- the last 4 holes are pretty much 100% wide open, which provides zero challenge
- small tees with not much grip
- dry and dusty
- boring

Other Thoughts:

This course was fun, but I think that if someone did a redesign it could be a pretty good course and a nice addition to the Sacramento area courses.

If you're traveling on CA-99, it's worth a quick stop to stretch your legs. The first 5 holes are really fun and pretty well designed, but the course gets a little more boring as it brings you back to the parking lot. This is just a play-it-once course, unless you live in the neighborhood.

Ace opportunities abound! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 2, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

The first three holes are nice with a few tress to provide obstacles. Nice baskets. Good signage.

Cons:

Short distance. The second half of the course is just open dirt with a straight shot at the basket about 200 feet away.

Other Thoughts:

Even with all these potential aces, i walked away +1. A good basic 9 hole course.
