Great Park, Great Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 4, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Very good mix of hyzer, straight and anhyzer shots

- The course is set in a pretty high traffic park in Milwaukee County and Disc Golf has made the park even more popular.

- It uses the land that it was given so well

- Multiple pin positions for every hole make it so that you rearly see the same course twice.

- Even the shortest holes are still technicle enough to make them not a gimme birdie.

- There are a lot of shorter holes but also a few longer holes mixed in there.

- Updated Constantly

- Well Maintained

- Beer Garden

Cons:

- Probably the highest trafficed course in the Milwaukee area, so if you are looking for a quick round this might not be the course for you.

- Located close to the UWM Campus and because of this you do see a lot of bigger groups, and one disc chuckers.

Other Thoughts:

- If you are looking for a fun course to play with a couple of buddies aznd have a nice relaxing time then this course is something that you should look into.

Also make sure to hit up the Beer Garden

Pretty Lame 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 19, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Hole 2 is pretty cool. You start about 50 feet away from a wooded tunnel that leads to the pin on a sharp turn to the left, about another 200 feet away. Its always fun to play holes with some shape to them instead of just - ahem - straight forward ones.
-The tees are nice and big.

Cons:

-Holes are all really short and repetitive. If you are going to have short holes, at least make them technical. It feels like every hole is just a straight ahead shot through some minor trees, or into some pocket of bushes. I think 15 and 17 are the only holes where you can air it out (still kind of a stretch) and both are directly next to a busy road.
-The signs are terrible. Its literally just written in sharpie. And they don't help at all besides letting you know what hole you are at. For all the roads and paths you have to cross/backtrack across, you'd figure there would be something better set up.
-There are a lot of areas under trees and near bushes that always get muddy when it rains. I went in May and there was about 4 inches of standing water in about a 20 foot radius around the pin on hole 18.
-A few of the pins are right on the edges of either large bodies of water or steep drop offs. You can't tell that they are there unless you have played there before or if you walk to the pin first. And, I know, I know, "It adds to the challenge." No, no it doesn't. Not here at least. There are a lot of courses that make good use of OB areas and it just seems unnecessary here.
-Like noted above, the whole course is pretty much directly next to a relatively busy road. Not only that, but there is a busy path that goes right through it. I've nearly got hit from bikers not saying anything coming up behind.
-Its usually pretty busy.

Other Thoughts:

In all honesty, the course plays like someone took one of there portable practice pins and set it up at the park during a picnic. It just doesn't feel like a legit course. If you are visiting from a different area, SKIP THIS COURSE. Go play Brown Deer and Dretzka.

One of Brewtown's best 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 7, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course plays through a pretty well maintained park right off I-43. The chainstar baskets here are in solid shape and catch pretty well. There are wood posts with hand drawn signs by each hole that show the basic hole layout and hole #. The concrete tee pads here are in good shape. The navigation can get a little confusing at times but there are a few nice directional signs to the next hole. There's a decent mix of shot types used here. Right, left and straight shots with a fair amount of different distances. Trees are going to be your main obstacle here. There aren't a lot of them but the course is set up so that they come into play on many of the holes. They have a number of holes with multiple pin placements which is always a plus.

Cons:

The hand drawn signs could definitely be better here. A few holes have fairways that are dangerously close to each other. There are a number of holes where the road is very close to one side or another too. There's not too much elevation or variation in distances. The course can get very busy.

Other Thoughts:

This is one of the better courses in the Milwaukee area. With that being said however, this still isn't anything too special. It's worth a trip to play a round or two. It'd be nice to see some courses in Milwaukee that don't play right alongside park roads though. This is a good course though which is why I gave it a 3 rating. It's just not more than not.

Flat & Friendly 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 21, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Estabrook is a good addition to Milwaukee disc golf. The course is very flat and is mostly open. It does has trees but for the most part there are no tunnel type holes. This is a great beginner friendly course and a nice walk in the park.

The course was very easy to navigate. The sign on 12 points in the direction you need to go.

The DGA Mach 2 baskets were in great shape. Multiple pin positions on each hole.

Excellent concrete tee pads.

There were wooden tee signs with the hole number on them.

There were several baskets that were elevated and a few were protected by some creative wood piles.

Hole #18 was a nice finish to the course.

Cons:

This course is very flat and gets somewhat repetitive. There are a lot of left to right turning holes.

With the limited amount of room where the course is located there are a lot of walking back to the next hole. If I were to play there again I'd throw a drive on 7 then 8 and go down and play both of them out.

Although there are tee signs they are just wood with handwritten descriptions.

As a more advanced player this course is on the short side. I threw a putter and mid on most of the holes.

Just like other courses in Milwaukee it gets high amount of traffic. Be prepared to wait.

Other Thoughts:

Spend a day in Milwaukee. Estabrook, Brown Deer, & Dretzka are not far apart.

Good beginner course.
Left handed players dream.
Not very long, so you don't have to tire out your throwing arm.
Short course with repetitive shot types and distances, so you don't have to lug around a heavy bag with a bunch of discs.

Cons:

Super short course that can be played without a driver.
EXTREMELY CROWDED. Unless you're there early on a weekday, you'll be waiting.
Seems like every hole curves to the right.

Pros:

Great place to learn and to hone your skills, great location very friendly people who play there. Pins get changed up often. Well maintained. Great place to take bring newcomers and pros alike.

Cons:

Not enough elevation changes. Could utilize some of the ravines in the park. Traffic can be a hassle. Hole 11 pin high! walk from 11 to 12 is retarded a hole could be placed between the walk.

Other Thoughts:

I love this park, i hear a lot of people criticizing the coarse comparing it to Brown Deer park. Listen Brown Deer is in its own league. Brown Deer is bad ass but i like Estabrook for its technical aspects of the coarse. This is my home coarse. I like to go out and get under par and have a relaxing time around. This is comparable as skill level to Valleyview NOT Brown Deer! Check it out have a beer at the beer garden when your done. Top 3 Beginner Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 22, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Fun course
- Cement Pads
- Very Beginner Friendly!
- Altho course is easy its very enjoyable to play
- Lots of forced lines
- Love all the midrange and putter tee shots. Great for working your short game.
- Short jaunt off I43

Cons:

- A bit of a pitch-n-putt. Easy to make Par if you screw up.
- Short!! I do like to throw a driver out there a few times.
- Not much if any replay value....for me at least
- Can have alot of chucker traffic
- Tee signs could be improved. Even tho you dont need them here.

Other Thoughts:

This is a quick fun course. Mid-ranges and putters are all that is required. Drivers will take some of the fun away by making it too easy. This may be the best beginner friendly layout I've ever played.
Beginners to Novice players will enjoy it the most. It is a great course for those learning to play. Many of the golf lines are short versions of very common holes. It will teach good habits if you stick with mids and putters.
Upper REC and INT players will find this entertaining but not difficult to score well. It will probably have little replay value if youre not playing for money. The most reward is from deuce putting, always good to build that mental state of making the good putt.
ADV and PRO will find no challenge. I could see -18s very possible for them. Money play is the only reward here for them...imo.
Like I said above, this could be the BEST BEGINNER course I've played. Black Bear in Hoffman Estates, IL and Carroll Marty in Ames, IA are in the running as well. There are alot of line specific shots, which always a plus on any course.
For those traveling you have many better options than this. Your time can be better spent. If youre looking to add to your course count this will only take 3-45minutes to play. If youre a local then go enjoy it, especially if youre just learning to play.

A Fair Alternative 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 6, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Good for beginners and family rounds
- Good for tuning your short and mid-range game.
- A few new pin placements (within the last two months) on some holes which require more accurate throws.
- Convenient location. Not far from freeway.
- Good use of trees, wooded areas and the small area that has elevation changes.

Cons:

- Not a long course.
- Make-shift tee signs (plywood plaques, handwritten with a marker)
- Short holes.
- Holes 1-8 feel cramped.
- Most tee pads (concrete) sit 2"-4" above the surrounding ground.
- Heavy park traffic (disc golfers, walkers, bikers, joggers, soccer fields)

Other Thoughts:

This course was the chosen alternate course to our other two options, Dretzka (closed for a tournament) and Brown Deer (pulled because some idiot stole the basket for hole 16!) It does not come close to the caliber of either of those two courses (length, shot selection, layout, risks, etc.)

However, it was a great opportunity to throw the two new Buzzz's I bought. It's a perfect disc for this course. Experienced players will most-likely leave their drivers in the bag.

With the exception of hole #2 (mandatory tunnel shot) and hole #4 (criss-crossing tree branches that frame the basket in the background) the first eight holes are rather boring other than to provide opportunities for short ace runs. A road borders the left-hand side of these holes but shouldn't really come into play. Several holes require walking backwards to get to the next tee pad. This poses a threat for getting hit by an errant drive from those teeing off on the previous hole. There are no elevation changes on this part of the course. But it does have a mixture of straight, hyzer and anhyzer shots. Hole 2 requires an accurate shot through the tunnel of foliage. With the original two pin placements, it was a RHBH hyzer shot. Now with the new pin placement (to the right after a hyzer through the tunnel) this hole provides no room for forgiveness. Those that can execute an accurate "S-curve" shot (LHBH or RHFH) have a shot at a deuce.

Holes 9-18 are more interesting in the way of course design. Hole 9 - A low-flying drive under tree branches to a basket tucked into the woods on the edge of a ravine. Hole 11 - A 245' hole with the first 60% flat and the last 40% down a hill. It's a straight but blind shot from the tee. There is a long walk between 11 and 12. Probably due to the access drive to the river that runs through the park. The river never really comes into play on this course. Hole 13 - Probably the longest hole on the course, with the new pin placement straight ahead and tucked in a wooded area, it measures 326 feet long. The basket is impossible to see from the tee pad. Fluorescent tape around the pole would help. The new pin placements on holes 14 and 18 provide for less forgiveness than the original positions. Hole 18 - Has a mostly open fairway with a couple of trees that require a shaped shot to the basket that is tucked into a patch of woods and guarded all the way around.

Overall, this is a fair course. Holes 1-8 "feel" cramped. The course has a tendency to get crowded on the weekends. There are no benches to sit on while waiting to tee off (with the exception of hole 18 which has bleachers. Can't figure that one out.). Trash receptacles are scarce. However, it appears that the local club and/or parks employees have done a great job keeping the course clean. It would be a great place to play for beginners and families with younger children, provided that there isn't a lot of course traffic. The tee signs are not appealing but do a good enough job depicting the hole layout and the distances. I will probably play this course again, but my visits will be few and far in between.

Great course, but not world class 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 16, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Estabrook Park is a massive park, and the disc golf course is a perfect addition to it. I enjoyed my round thanks to the following aspects of the course:

*Great hole design with all but one hole bringing multiple tree obstacles into play
*Hole 2 was a very cool tunnel created by some funky trees
*Appropriately sized and poured concrete tees.
*Multiple pin placements
*Adequate baskets

Cons:

This course will never be host to a high caliber tournament because it simply does not have enough distance challenge to do so. An experienced player will probably not take out his/her drivers. This really is the only con of the course.

Other Thoughts:

Though Estabrook is not a world class course like its neighbors Brown Deer and Dretzka, it is a great "League Course" and a chance for experienced players to get a great score after some tricky drives. In short, most of the holes at Estabrook would be like the easier ones at a high caliber course. They're not easy deuce holes, but scoring a two is possible on every hole. If you're road tripping to Dretzka and Brown Deer, make sure to include this quick course in your plans.

Milwaukee's Vollrath?...Eh, Not Quite 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 26, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

1. Variety. The Front 9 doesn't vary too much in what's required (lots of straight shots with my Buzzz), but there is some good variety, first evident with the mando tunnel on #2 and the first risky green on #9 (potential rollaway if you overshoot). Elevation is used well on #10 and #11, both downhill shots near the river (although the water doesn't come into play). Hole #16 has a green protected by a gang of guardian trees further surrounded by rough, so this late trouble really makes you focus on threading one of the multiple gaps while not having to worry about hitting anything early.
2. Multiple pin locations on every hole make this a course I will definitely return to in order to get a feel for how the holes play differently when changed around.
3. The tee signs are descriptive and helpful, but crude. There was a thumbtack denoting the pin position on most of the signs, although with the short hole lengths it's usually pretty obvious where you're shooting to.
4. Navigation is relatively straightforward, as most tees are easily visible after holing out. Also, the basket spokes are painted with the direction to walk to reach the next tee.
5. Tees are nice textured concrete. I played the day after some heavy rains and didn't have any slippage or traction issues.
6. The short distances make this a really fun "old-school" style course (in the spirit of Vollrath as referenced in my title, although this course lacks the elevation of the Sheboygan course). Some great opportunities to work on your control and finesse as opposed to just ripping drivers over and over. Although all the holes are short, there's a good mix of distances.
7. Very clean when compared to other Milwaukee courses, although I suspect this is more due to the newness and expect litter/vandalism to become the norm (as it is in any city, so I'm not bashing Mil-Town here). Abundant trash cans.

Cons:

1. Some areas seem conducive to conflict, either with traffic or players on other tees. This is especially evident on the Front 9 (particularly the proximity of #2's tee to #1's basket), where the road is visible for most of the holes (which you also need to cross at an area where cars could come zipping around the slight curve leading into the park).
2. While not overly repetitive, the flatness of the course and the short hole lengths doesn't provide a ton of opportunity for creative and interesting holes. One thing lacking here is a real "wow" factor or a signature hole.
3. I question the necessity of the elevated basket on #11 (short position when I played, not sure if it's like this in the long). This is already a downhill tee shot, so leaving the basket at a standard height would seem to provide more risk of skip-aways or forcing newer players to shoot a little lower. Admittedly, I'm being nitpicky here.
4. The only real bland hole was #8, just wide open, and again near the road.
5. The concrete tees are mostly installed well, but some aren't flush with the ground (I did notice woodchips around many, so adding some more to the front of these tees would fix this problem). Not a real big con since most players won't require huge follow-throughs.
6. The walk from #8 to #9, as mentioned, crosses the road (look both ways, people!); head towards the soccer goals and you'll see #9's tee. There's also a bit of a walk from #11 to #12, and although navigation on this walk is aided by bright green directional signs, I couldn't help but notice some missed opportunities for holes on this walk; holes that would have been far from your typical "filler" fare, since this is the only area of the park with elevation changes.
7. Hole #18 seems to have a problem with standing water. Although this would probably too expensive to fix in order to facilitate proper drainage, keep in mind that after it rains most of this fairway is under a few inches of water. Casual relief. :)

Other Thoughts:

This is a fun little course and a great addition to the other MKE Area courses. Although situated in a multi-use park, the course pretty much stays away from other park activities (hiking and biking seem to be the big draws to this area). This is a great course for beginners and families due to the short distances, although the shot-shaping required on some holes provides a decent challenge. No real suggestions for improvements to make it a higher-rated course; it is what it is, just a fun little deucefest that can be played with 2 or 3 discs.

Aged Nicely! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 20, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- This pitch and putt style course is mostly grassy with mature trees, wooded areas, and bushes as obstacles on the front nine. The back nine crosses the road and starts to play through a more wooded area. Water is nominally in play on a handful of holes, although the risk of getting a disc wet is fairly slim.
- Great next tee signage alleviates an otherwise nightmarish flow in places. Follow the signs or risk getting lost.
- Many ace runs available on the front nine. The back nine, along with a few on the front are more technical than the first several holes, giving the course some variety.
- Great for families, beginners, or putter-only rounds.
- Dual pin placements change things up a bit, although no hole is very long.
- Practice basket near parking lot.

Cons:

- Rudimentary signage is sufficient but ugly. I assume the signage is temporary and will be rectified once the course is a little more established.
- One hole (#16, I believe) was completely submerged under water. Unplayable.
- Repetitive front nine with woods on the right, road on the left. Scattered trees provide the obstacles, but mostly these are open grassy ace runs.
- Mostly flat with very few risk/reward opportunities, especially on the front nine.

Other Thoughts:

- I assume that this newish course is going through some growing pains and on-going development that will raise its rating at a later date. EDIT (6/25/11): Concrete tees have been added since my last visit, greatly improving the course...hopefully replacement signs are next on the agenda. (Updated 6/28/21: Very nice tee signs showing the multiple pin positions. Pin position options on each hole keep this course from becoming "the same old thing." Estabrook has beaten in nicely over the years, and is a solid option to hit while in Milwuakee. I raised my rating to 3 discs based on the major upgrades that have happened here with signage, pads, and extra pins.)
- Despite the proximity to water, bugs were almost a non-factor, which was a pleasant surprise.

Leave the drivers home 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 25, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course has a few holes (or at least portions of the hole) that really show off some quality design and quality terrain. Hole 2 has a great hyzer mando through a tunnel of brush. Hole 5 has the tee set up, when the pin is in the long location, there is a red pine with two main trunks that twist and form a window which perfectly frames up the basket - great to go for it! (I did and went through the trunks, but above the window). Hole 9 has an excellent reisky green tucked into the woods, right on the edge of a dropoff to a drainage creek - GREAT! Hole 11 is the best hole in my mind - it plays a drawn out soft anny for a RHBH, starting from up in the typical city park mowed fairway with large trees. The last 40% drops down into the woods near the washout creek and when the pin (blind off the tee) is in the long position, creates a well laid out hole. Hole 16 plays forcing a drive to punch into a green carved out of a large clump of trees. Hole 18 forces a low drive through low hanging limbs and dense clumps of trees on either side.
There are multiple pin placements, but they range from short to SHORTER.
There is a small amount of elevation here, but it would be nice if more of the natural park steep ravines could have been used.
The mature city park trees don't offer enough low limbs for a true tunnel shot on most holes, but mature trees are gorgeous. Many are used very well to frame a specific shot off the tee or approach onto the green.

Cons:

Repetitive waste of holes 1-8. Beside a couple neat natural features like the tunnel on #2 and the red pine on #5, the first 8 holes all have a tee near the road, and a basket along the edge of the woods - straight or slight anny over and over again.
On the front 8 especially, the tees are very close to the previous basket, the design I just mentioned makes this problem worse when the noobs are out flinging RHBH shots off their hips that fade left into the group at the next tee.
The signs right now are just one-line depictions and don't really show the intended flight real well (e.g. depicting a fade right when the basket is left). I'm assuming from the 4x4 posts that signs are planned here, but with the lack of descriptive and depictive tee signs at Brown Deer, who knows.
Only one tee here, a short one! I assume tees are coming, we could hope they'll be a bit longer, or maybe a second longer set will be added. Hopefully the concrete is installed flush to the ground and with a ROUGH finish!
The walk to #12 wastes a lot of unique terrain.
No big pond or real water hazard, but #9, 10, 11 could bring some water into play I guess with a shanked drive.
Very short course, not really any need for a driver at all (unless you sidearm a lot).
Old guys walking the paths and hanging out in the parking lot looking for things they shouldn't be looking for. Which leads into my preference for secluded and natural courses - can't expect much else from a course in the middle of Milwaukee.

Other Thoughts:

I perpetually play courses, walking around thinking how they could be better - moving a tee back/left/right, tucking a pin into the woods or near a sharp dropoff, using more unique features of a park. I couldn't help myself from doing that here. So many greens would have been better if cut into the nearby woods by 50-75'. So many holes would have been better with a second LONG tee 100' or more back. But all in all the alotted park area probably wouldn't allow it (or I'm thinking the parks department would allows those areas to be used (between 11 & 12, and the cool ravine that slightly comes into play on 9 & 11). I concluded that this course design was just meant to offer a beginner level course in the area. We discussed it was maybe to reduce the hordes at Dretzka (because no one plays the "too hard" Brown Deer, and who in their right mind would go to Dineen). So, this course was meant for beginners, or for advanced players to work on their putter drives and buzzzes. It is what it is - typical. Some shiny spots, lots of lackluster dull ones. I didn't regret playing, but would have if I had gone out of my way. If I didn't have family in the area, I don't think I'd ever play here again.

This course is busy and so it is increasingly hard to lose a disc here. It is very Valley View-esque with a lot of short technical holes but enough variety to keep someone who's been playing for 7 years occupied as well.
I never had to throw very hard to reach the holes which meant I could play this course several times in concession.

Cons:

It is a short course, ideally it would be nice to see some more variety in distance and elevation changes.
Also, even though the tee "pads" were dry for me both times I played, I can imagine how muddy they can get and concrete tee pads or at least woodchips would make a great difference.

Other Thoughts:

Overall I will play this course often as it is now the closest course to me near Milwaukee. It doesn't come close to Dretzka which is longer and great for advanced players, but it does compare well to valley view which is great for beginners.

For Beginners. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 19, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The course is good for beginners. Has good holes for perfecting your shot. Enjoy the wooded area.

Cons:

The wholes are way to small. If you are use to bigger courses dont play here, watch out for hole 10 the river is right behind it so dont over through it. there are long walks to holes and the holes kind of over lap.

Estabrook - Padless 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 9, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Its tougher than it looks. Very technical. I don't like writing incredibly long reviews. I would say its worth the try. Once concrete pads get put in, this could end up being a really great course.
I GPSed the course. Here is a link to my Google Map.
http://maps.google.com/maps/m...b57c&z=17

Cons:

No pads. Signage is a bit primitive, but once you do the course once, its very easy to navigate. The foliage is already pretty much broken down if you shoot off the fairway so finding your disc is not as troublesome as you would imagine.

Other Thoughts:

Since its a brand new course, its going to be crowded at peak hours. Be prepared to wait at holes.

Nice short course . . . location is key for a lot of people in the city. It should really help spread the traffic out a bit! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 4, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

1) This course went in fast but just the right amount of trimming and cutting was done in my opinion. There are a couple tight lanes to throw through and those should be preserved as long as possible. I am sure vandalism and disc traffic will lead to those openings becoming wider, but to start I think an awesome job was done preserving those lanes.

2) Course is a true par 3 course (54). All holes are reachable by me which I enjoy. While I do like to see legit par 4's and 5's on courses, I am also ok with a shorter course like this from a design standpoint especially because of its location. There wasn't the land to make any real par 4's, but this course is also very well suited to the college kids nearby and the beginners who might come out to a new course. I doubt this played any role in the design, but in the end it worked out great.

3) While most holes on 1-8 are anhyzers or RH flicks, the back 9 has a nice variety of straight and hyzers with a smattering of turnovers.

4) 1-8 are all simple shots with quite a few ace runs without much penalty, but that is when the course really gets going. 9 has a great perched basket, 10 is a short downhiller with an ace run risk/reward, 11 is a great left to right downhiller. 12-14 run through the densest part of the woods and 15-18 open back up to a dense canopy of large trees but not through tight woods. This variety is key to making this course as good as it is. If the whole thing were like 1-8 I would not be very impressed, but it gives you two courses almost. Go for aces on the first holes and then settle in and try to make as many pars with a couple birdies coming in.

5) EDIT: Signs have been replaced with very professional routered plastic signs with distances and hole locations on the maps. This was a volunteer job by a local disc golfer and it goes to show what a good local community can do for our disc golf courses.

6) Kiosk near 18 basket for information and EDIT: TWO practice baskets for warming up putts beforehand or playing a game of Chains.

7) Beginner friendly, but with some challenge too, which I view as a real positive.

8) Locals are good guys and will most certainly be sure to keep the DBags in line. EDIT: There was a change of leadership at the park going from one good guy to another. Lots of changes have happened this season (2013).

9) They keep adding new pin positions and it is making the course more difficult. I am happy to see the full use of the area getting used.

EDIT: 10) Concrete teepads were poured a long time ago now. These are the best concrete teepads in winter because they have such deep grooves that there is no way they will be slippery. The locals also salt them to keep them clean.

11) Beer Garden is a huge attraction in the park and is a nice amenity for an after round beverage. They have been very supportive of disc golf events also so stop in for a beer and talk to them about the disc golf course!

Cons:

1)There are still some stumps visible where clearing has happened. Most of he old ones have been taken out but anytime a new placement is made stumps are left.

2) Shot shaping is ok . . . although they seem to favor lefties or rh annys or flicks. There is a little more variety on the last 10 holes but the first 8 set up with (1 hyzer tunnel shot, 2 straight shots and 5 anhyzer or flick shots).

3) Long walk between 11 and 12 makes the course feel disjointed. Non locals might get confused here on where to go, but the course map does indicate a long walk and there is a sign on the first bridge pointing you down the path. Either way I would prefer non-stop disc golf but it wasn't possible here.

4) Mosquitos will be busy there. Right along the river, dense woods . . . bring the bug spray.

5) Safety an issue on a few tees and missed anny lines. Mostly on holes 1-8 but also on 16 tee you are at risk at being hit by a errant teeshot from 15. Safety is also an issue because of the stumps in the ground from the buckthorn removal. #3 tee is also very much in play from a tamahawk on #2. While I was there the local guys decided to make the mando for that hole throguh the tunnel and wrote it on the board. Immediately behind up we heard 4 tamahawks land so obviously they didnt understand. EDIT: This is one of the worst courses in the area for throwing in the road. Not only do a lot of discs end up in the road but there is also a large amount of traffic. The locals encourage people to bring their disc back in the grass rather than throwing from the road but it doesn't always get told to everyone.

Other Thoughts:

I know this course is young and all the work was volunteer so I am basing my rating on what I expect of this course given a little bit of time to play it in. I know teepads will be accepted there as all the other county parks allowed them, they just wanted to make sure that none of the areas infringe on other activities and that everything is safe in the end. I like the course but the firs 8 holes are somewhat boring. It truly better get you warmed up by being accurate and racking up as many birdies as you can there before heading to the tougher back nine (10). The risk reward on this course is high because of the basket locations and fallaways on 9-11. The risk of hitting a particular tree and kicking into the brush is prevalent on multiple holes on this course, so you really want to pick the line with the least issues. All in all I did enjoy the course, but there are some things that leave me wanting some changes . . . the property just wouldn't really allow it.

I know that course will be well policed by the local guys because I know many of the people who will be there almost daily because of where they live.
