Pros:
It starts out as your typical mixed use city park design, but once it transitions to the forest in the perimeter of the park, it feels more like a dedicated disc golf course. Other reviewers complained of potential conflicts with other park users, but I felt like there was only a true potential conflict with 16A, which is obviously setup as a hole that should only be played if people and cars are not present. I do think those clear instructions should be codified on a sign at the 16A sidewalk teepad. I will say that we played it in the middle of a cold weekday. A nice weekend during youth baseball season probably brings its own challenges. The island hole was quite fun, but we only figured out it was an Island after we threw. I can see additional pedestrian and car conflicts on this hole during the busy season. Good use of elevation where available. Good tee pads throughout the course; at least some had the hole number embedded in them, which I thought was a classy touch. The baskets were in good repair and high quality. I liked that some were mounted lower to the ground. I assume that was intentional as it changed the putt a little. My son was bothered by it. The CNC metal signs on the first part of the course were sturdy; although see my cons for constructive feedback.
Cons:
Tee signage was lacking throughout the course, specifically with hole overview maps. I understand they were once there on the metal signs but have since faded. This should be remedied. Which leads me to the visibility of the baskets. As I said above, the baskets are high quality, but they aren\'t very visible, especially in the dark woods part of the course. Pole flags at the top of the baskets, painting them white, additional reflective markings or course signage would all help with this. While there was a good mix of open holes, wooded holes, narrow tunnels, low ceilings, etc, it felt like half the holes were forgettable and/or redundant, especially on the forested holes.
Other Thoughts:
The designers did a great job incorporating a large course in a cool city park context. I\'m sure it\'s a good resource for the sport of disc golf in the area- as long as players are respectful of the shared use space. There are several opportunities to come through and refresh or update the course amenities (like next tee signs on each basket and improved signage at each hole) to assist new players or visitors to the course. If you\'re just visiting the area like we are, it\'s definitely worth a quick round.
