No top of the world sadly

Pros:

Aesthetics:

The Teton's are amazing. You can see the valley from the course as well as the surrounding mountains and grasslands. The view is like one big blob of different green things to look at, a dense forest, just awesome! Saw lots of chipmunks and an assortment of birds.

The course goes straight uphill for the first 6-7 holes and although the length sounds easy these holes play much longer than the listed distance. Uphill isn't really my favorite but they aren't bad and provide a warm up. Many drives out here have good obstacles and interesting basket locations that adds challenge and fun.

Cons:

Tee pads:

These are some of the worst tee pads I've ever played on! Natural dirt pads with roots, rocks, branches covering the tee area. Giant holes and dug out badly, uneven, anything that could be bad about tee pads these are worse. It was difficult getting good footing for a stand still so a run up was near impossible. On top of all that they were slick and dangerous. Even the back of the tee pads were bad. After a few holes I stopped using the pads and starting throwing standstills on the grass to either side. Most of the drives out here require a run up so this was very disappointing and made what would have been a fun round very frustrating. The pictures of the tee pads in the media section here are from six years ago at the time of writing this and don't look too bad but don't be fooled! They have deteriorated badly since then and obviously haven't been worked on.

Mild elevation: No top of the world. The course starts at the resort village and plays up but only goes maybe 1/3 as far up as the chairlift goes which limits the amount of downhill. It seems it would have been smarter to start the course at the top of the lift so that disc golfers could experience big downhill holes while also letting the resort gain additional income from lift tickets. Many other mountain courses do something similar. Not many downhill holes and no big downhill holes. Most of the front 9 have you playing straight up hill and then mildly downhill, quite a letdown IMO.

Other Thoughts:

I love mountain courses, they are some of my favorite type of courses but I prefer more downhill than this course provides. Still it's a beautiful area and the resort has many things to do even if it is expensive. They have maps and snacks/drinks in the general store. The guy who was working the store when I visited was a disc golfer and we talked shop for a minute, nice dude. The rating here is a little high IMO.

Grand Targhee Ski Resort 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 2, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

Mountain Golf, resort supported course with caring attitude. No charge to play course. Well designed 18 hole course that you won't make you feel like you've given birth to a full grown cow once your done playing it. Trap bar and grill at hole one, a great place to relax after your round.

Cons:

Isolated from normal walks of life, resort closes down early, depending on how many visitors (6 to 9 pm). No dogs allowed. Only place to get food is the Trap bar and grill, pricey.

Other Thoughts:

This course is a true mountain course that plays at 8,000 + ft altitude. Dirt Teepads, wear sturdy shoes. The course plays with the technical aspect in mind, not a lot of long drives to deal with. Still you need to be spot on with your drives 75% of the time or you will regret it! Advanced and pro players will be under par, A top pro player will be in the double digits if he's playing well. A recreational player will be even to over par, and everyone will love the experience since the course doesnt wear you out like some mountain courses can. The drive from the town of Driggs, ID is about 20 minutes, which is the closest place to get gas, food, etc. Go up prepared with what you think you need, the resort is very limited to what they offer.
