Hyzer city 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 16, 2007 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The course has lots of hills on the outer edges of the park, and the grass is usually lush and green...but more importantly, regularly mowed.

Nice baskets, concrete tees on most holes, and a few unique holes with elevation keep this course from being a 2.5 or lower.

There's a fairly large creek in play on every hole except 1 to keep things interesting on this otherwise 80% flat/open course. The creek is typically shallow in most areas and has a solid rock bottom...so fishing your disc out isn't a big hassle.

I've never played this course when there were more than 3-4 other groups at the park, so getting in a quick round usually isn't a problem.

Great course for practice in the wind, as there aren't many trees to block it. Also good for night/glow golf, as there's zero underbrush...just watch out for the creek.

Cons:

Lack of variety is the biggest con in my opinion. Almost every single basket can be reached with a 300-350' RHBH hyzer. The few holes that incorporate some kind of elevation are what kept me going back to Greenbelt when I lived in the area.

The few holes that don't have concrete pads are just dirt...and they're getting a bit worn down at this point.

Other Thoughts:

Although not one of the more unique or challenging in the DFW, Greenbelt has a group of dedicated locals who play it all the time. It's also an important part of Dallas disc golf history, being one of the 2 courses typically used for the Mr. Jim's Carrollton Open, one of the largest events in North Texas.

There's a backwards layout that many of the locals call the "Beltbuster" that, from what I've been told, is TONS more interesting and challenging than the normal layout. One of the previous reviews mentions specifics about the layout.

This course is OK to AWESOME 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 3, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

The park is an excellent location for a disc golf course. It has a large creek running the length of the course and comes into effect on almost every hole. Nice elevation changes. Also, the course is very rarely packed with anyone other than yourself enjoying a round of disc golf.

Cons:

Playing the course "as is" turns a beautiful swatch of land with great potential into a pretty mundane 2 hour stroll. If you're like me and play RHBH the course offers many challenges in the way of hyzers and that's about it. Most of the round can be played with a hyzer drive and then a put. There is good use of elevation changes midway through the back nine holes and the creek can end up adding a stroke to your score on almost every hole. Signage is either missing or too close to the tee. Needs some more concrete teepads to ease the risk of twisting your ankle.

Other Thoughts:

Here is where the course becomes amazing. Play it backwards. Start from #1s teepad and throw to 18s basket (as long as there is no one using the picnic benches). All of a sudden hole 1 goes from a 375' hyzer shot to a 500'+ fairway management hole. Then step to the side of the pin and play to 17s basket. If you play the route that some of us have found you end up using every shot you have and then some just to keep close to par. A few notable holes are throwing from the top of the hill near 12's pin down to 11's basket. The basket now appears nestled on a peninsula made by the two creeks merging. The signature hole would have to be the 1,000' (par 5) that winds from the middle of what would be 5's fairway to 3's basket. With houses on the left and the trees and creek on the right, it makes this double 'S'ing fairway a joy to play. The course is not busy enough to keep you from playing this layout and most of the regulars that do play there know what you are doing.

Good, open course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 10, 2008 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Concrete tee pads on most holes. Signs on some holes, but not all. Good baskets. The park is pretty and the course is in great shape. There are some fun holes around the waterway that are challenging simply because of the fear of going in the drink. If you do go in the water, it isn't too hard usually to get it back if you're willing to get wet. There are some cool downhill and uphill shots. There are also a few holes that let you unleash the long drives.

Cons:

This is a pretty open course. Not a lot of trees to add challenge to the course. Can be pretty windy and not a lot of shade. Some of the teepads are just dirt. Some signs are missing/damaged.

Other Thoughts:

Definitely one of the better courses in the area. I'd say this is a good course for beginners.

Greenbelt regular 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 29, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

Elevated tee's on some holes = fun power throws that can turn into birdies. Great exercise climbing up and down a few holes. Over a 2 mile walk to complete the course is also great exercise. Discs that land in water hazards are easy to retrieve with a pole.
Grass is cut regularly. Concrete pads are in good shape and the dirt ones are broken in very well.

Cons:

Dog poop from nearby residents. New signage is needed for new comers. Tee #4 is hard to find for a newbie, just take the side walk North after #3 basket about 100 yards away. Not a whole lot of shade in the middle of the day. You never walk past the parking lot again until the end to get fresh refreshments from your car. Some veterns play the course backwards and can interfere with your play, but they are always a bunch of cool guys.

Other Thoughts:

I believe this course is not suited for a beginner, due to the long walk and several water hazards. I think #11 is the definition of this course, very cool and technical. It has a huge water hazard to cross and over throwing it can also land you in water.

Pros:

This is a very fun course. It has a couple challengin trees on some and then wide open for some as well. Water is always a factor. Water is shallow tho and my dad jumped in and got a disk for me. # 15 is really fun. Its a huge downhill throw easy to make birdie.

Cons:

The water is a factor and pretty challenging

Other Thoughts:

Good Course. Play it

Beginner's Confusion 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 24, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

Pretty wide open. Water hazard isn't too bad from which to retrieve discs. I think a good course for beginners like me.

Cons:

Unless one knows this course, very hard to figure out. Signs are down or completely missing. Wish their was a map somewhere to consult, but the pictures of the tees on this website should help a lot.

Other Thoughts:

Umbrella girls would be awesome in the summertime, as there is very little shade out there, but that's ANY kind of golf for you. I'm having fun learning the game with my two teenage sons.

Pros:

Many memorable holes force you to throw either over the creek or land near the creek. Some great tee locations off the top of hills. Very fun to play!

Cons:

Not enough shade for Texas summers. No tight or technical shots.

Greenbelt Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 2, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

Interesting course layout. Good variation of flat and sloped holes. Sidewalk between most holes. Nice amount of trees provides shade but does not provide an excess of obstacles on holes. It is possible to retrieve discs when they land in the creek running through the course.

Cons:

Signs have become very worn some are knocked-down or missing. The creek is very mucky and does have snakes in it.
