Best bud's home turf 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 3, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Not too far off Alt. 19 in north Pinellas.
- The park isn't far off the Pinellas Trail so if you're local you can bike or walk here.
- Close to the coast and just a quick drive from Palm Harbor or Clearwater and a stone's throw from downtown Dunedin which is a really nice area.
- Lots to do in this park; hiking trails, boardwalks, playgrounds, picnic shelters, and even a kayak launch (on the canal by the tee for hole #7).
- There are bathrooms but you have to know where to go (you can get to the other part of the park by crossing the road near the tee for hole #3; they're in the building there, by the playground).
- Not a long course, but also fairly technical; great for shot shaping or learning the hyzer-flip.
- A couple of the holes have enough shape to need a specific fade, so everything isn't a straight tunnel shot.
- Hole #9 has a great green set in a little hole in the brush with total tree cover and thick grass.
- The course is mostly shaded except for the middle couple holes, so the sun isn't oppressive.
- The "official" nine holes now have textured tee pads with great grip and bag racks.
- There is a set of "B" tees marked by concrete posts; no pads and also can be very hard to find (print the map here, it's very accurate).

Cons:

- The course holds water after rain and it can get mucky and super humid.
- Insects here are insane in the summer or when it's wet; have bug spray.
- Hole #9 throws over the parking lot so you have to be careful of cars.
- Lots of walkers use the park so you may have to wait for them occasionally.
- #7 and #8 play along a canal to the right and these holes are very tight; a bad kick to the right means a disc in the canal (it's super shallow so you can get them back but I wouldn't advise it...I've seen snakes in that water).
- No pads for the "B" tees.
- The course definitely went in after the original park layout was finished so there are lots of opportunities for people to get in your way; be patient and courteous. We just wave and most people move so you can play through.

Other Thoughts:

Declaring mando's here can be a lot of fun with the variety of lines and obstacles available (my favorite is through the picnic shelters so long as they're empty). Not a course I'd go out of my way to play, but if you're tooling by on Alt. 19, definitely give it a throw. It's worth it. Others have said it isn't that great, but it's a course. We need more courses. And this one has a quirky little personality, which makes it cool in my book.

Really liked it. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 26, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Very technical, almost like a motocross track in some spots. Very different natural environment from my home course in the mountains, which might be why I liked it. Water comes into play. Has a couple long holes, too. #6 has a big, low tree that creates a great target for your drive. If you get it through the tree, you're sitting pretty.

Cons:

A little short, only 9 holes. Can be tricky to figure out where you're going if it's your first time. But aren't they all like that?

Very flat, except for a couple holes.

Other Thoughts:

Worth an hour of your time.
