Hindman Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 2, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Short course great for beginners. Easy par many birdie shots. Only takes about 30 min to play we were the only disc golfers at 6pm on a Friday night. Park is in a reaidental area with a playground picnic tables and a basketball court.

Cons:

First tee is kind of hard to find then it gets easier. The small creek was down when we were there but smells awful!! Grass was high and there are patches of poison Ivy. Not sure about the surrounding areas after dark.

Other Thoughts:

Fun quick course.

Average 9 holer. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 1, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Elevation on 2 holes.
Concrete tees with bag hangers.
Flow is good.
Hole 9 had 3 pads, others had 2.
Baskets are in much better condition than nearby Burns Park.

Cons:

Very short. Average hole distance from short pads is less than 200 feet. (<150=2, 150-200=4, 200-250=2, 250-300=2, >300=0). The longer pads increase the average distance by 100 ft .per hole, but the average is still under 300 feet .
Basket 9 was totally surrounded by 3 inch deep water and was unplayable.
Some holes played a little close to property lines, but not enough to where I would consider it a safety hazard.
Course is a typical par 3 with lots of room for recovery to make up for any mistakes. An intermediate level player can come out and shoot par, and advanced player would be playing "deuce or die" golf against competition from the short pads. The longer pads only increase the challenge slightly.

Other Thoughts:

The water in play on hole 5 is a tiny creek, more like a ditch filled with water. There is no need to bust out your wahoo and dragon on this course.
If you are in the Little Rock area (Marriott, Capitol Hotel, Clinton Library) it is slightly over $20 each way by taxi. Burns park is a better value being slightly closer and 36 holes instead of 9.
This course was an average layout with short holes, but with flooding and being only 9 holes I would rate this as a reasonable course. This course rates comparable to my other 2.0-2.5 rated courses.

Beginner/Intermediate 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 1, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Course is set in a small park, that has a few hills, a small creek, and lots of trees. There is a baseball field among other things, but it doesn't look like the park is used by anyone else, ever.
- Great course design that uses the available trees to make some tough lines to the basket. Hole #2 and #7 are very well suited to RHBH anhyzers, and many others have numerous trees to take away the easy hyzer route. Trees are also used well around the pins, resulting in some protected baskets. Some nasty areas are present too far off the fairway as well, like rough to the right of #8 and backyards to the right of #3.
- Elevation changes are present on three holes; #1 plays up to the pin, #2 is sloping all the way down the left side, and #9 is a great elevated teepad to the basket below. Fantastic use of the available terrain.
- Small creek does come into play in a few spots. While it is not going to swallow up any discs, it is still a good hazard and one more thing to avoid.
- Good variety in hole length, with 4 over 300' from the longs. Bigger arms will find everything deucable, of course.
- Great teepads and baskets, pretty much no signage. Navigation is still pretty easy, as the course just follows a counter-clockwise circle around the park. Alternate teepads are probably the biggest trick.

Cons:

- Course is definitely hampered by the small space that is available. Holes are crammed in next to houses and forests, and the middle of the park is taken over by an old baseball field. The layout is still pretty good, but won't be that challenging to a lot of players. With lots of pavement, and fences, it is not a pretty park either.

Other Thoughts:

- This is a great place for beginners to learn the ropes, with tricky lines, significant elevation changes on a few holes, and some nasty hazards. Even intermediate players will find some challenging holes, like #2 and the longer #7 and #8. A very solid 9-holer; has a little bit of everything.
- One backyard was padlocked with barb wire; it can be jumped, but it's best to steer clear of that one.
