After hole 2, A is way up the hill beyond the pond and 2's long basket. There are basket positions to the right and left of the end of the pond. Make sure you see which it's in before you throw. A firm tee shot across the valley would best work slightly left to right, because the opposite might fade too far down toward the marsh. Obviously, going left early could be catastrophe.

Since you can't see much past the ridge, players new to Idelwild need to know that that ridge is less than half way to the open, and less than a third of the way to the basket. You want to choose a disc you can get to, or beyond the top, but which will land flat and centered. Don't try to take too much of this hole unless you have National Tour skills. Once you get to the open, your upshot needs to navigate two large pines guarding the pin. A perfect spot might be just left of the mouth of the tunnel out.

A hole that plays tighter and longer than it looks, Keep your tee shot low and straight, to avoid kicking off the trees into the side rough. Most folks need to remember to tee from further back in the box due to the retaining bricks at the front. It doesn't affect much, physically, but might bother some follow-through striders.

There are two baskets in place on this hole, so make sure your card knows which you're playing before the first thrower. There is a mando to stay left of, forcing the more direct tee shot. The danger really lies in getting too far left into the rough and slope left of the creek. Of course, playing strict creek OB rules also means for more cautions throw decisions.

Obviously, when the grass is up, your goal is to play fairway the whole way here. Judge the wind and let her rip. Twice. Three times for mortals, knowing that the fairway bends right after the crest of the last rise. Spotters are advised most of the summer. A controlled upshot to the green is needed if you're playing strict OB rules.

Two entirely different holes if you play short vs long. You can usually run right at the basket up across the ravine from the short tee (deuce or die!). From the long tee, you have a whole different animal. The ideal tee shot is laser straight up through the gap, with the goal to get as high up hill past the ravine as you can. You're punished severely for getting off that line, so control is preferred over distance. Taking a three on hole 14 long is a challenge. A four won't kill your round.

Need a short-ish left to right shot for the short basket & something to glide far down the ravine for the long. I'm rhbh, so I might let my Fuse flip to the short, but need to pull out a slightly understable fairway driver with a ton of glide to get far downhill. Might go with a River, even if it wants to find its way to the creek at the bottom. There's a fairly open island green awaiting your approach shot. Taking a three in te longs is nothing to sneeze at.

Not sure what the ideal line here is, but firm and straight has the best chance. Even hitting the last bush before the green will likely leave you a putt for deuce. I've also heard some folks try the big sweeping left hand hyzer, but that wasn't the intention of the hole.

Fun shot through the Y gap. Throw firm and straight, because the trees down there over the creek are further than they appear and love to swat your fade into the water. Firm and smooth, get out far before the fade and you'll reach the landing zone. Then your upshot needs control if you play strict OB rulles surrounding the green.

The best I've seen this played, Jim F. used a controlled shot that faded right to mid-fairway just past the right hand bend, setting up a traditional left-fading 2nd drive that got near the cedar grove surrounding the pin. Beautiful three. The worst was when I got in the thick and thought I could get out forward, rather than taking my lumps and pitching out to the fairway. Did it four times. Ugly ten. Never again. Pitch out of trouble!
