Indian Hills Is The Place You Should Be! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 8, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Indian Hills is less than three miles from Albert Oakland Park and less than eight miles from the # 1 rated Harmony Bends and the three courses share many of the same characteristics owing to the fact that they are all three products of the Columbia Parks Department.

Indian Hills has the same great signs, the same washer system showing what position the basket is placed, the same nice concrete tee pads and the same Mach II baskets with the yellow number plates on the top. The large park has all the usual amenities plus the dog park near the start.

The first seven holes are more open before moving into a tighter, technical wooded course. The holes did mostly have a similar feel until I reached # 11. I think it's the signature hole here. It's about 350', requires an annie or fade and only the yellow plate of the basket shows from the tee. Then when you reach the basket, you find it set in this cool, little indentation. All around cool hole.

Cons:

I thought this course mostly has an old school feel to it's design. The first 10 holes were either straight or required a hyser. The last 7 holes all played between 201 and 249'. After having just played Harmony Bends with it's incredible variety of holes the day before, Indian Hills seemed so redundant by comparison. But it's really not fair to compare any course to Harmony Bends.

Other reviewers have complained about the flow or navigation of the course but I didn't have that much trouble finding my way around. I had to back track once or twice.

Other Thoughts:

Indian Hills is one of those courses that has just enough challenge, is convenient enough and probably gets a lot of play. I can understand the attraction. It's a very solid course. If I lived close, I'm sure I'd be perfectly content to play many enjoyable, safe rounds here. But I also think, I'd probably be forever gazing at other, more attractive courses. Gees, this sounds much like many of my longtime married friends. Not me, of course! I've never once had the inclination to even glance at another woman.

Nice Park Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 9, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

A good mix of open and wooded holes. The front nine is relatively open, but still requires shaping your drive to a specific line to work around the trees that are there. The back nine is much tighter, with narrow fairways.

Hole lengths vary from 220' to about 440', with the longer holes being in the open areas of the course. Good mix of right and left-finishing holes, with a couple of true tunnel holes in the woods.

For the most part I didn't find the wooded holes unreasonably tight. They had narrow fairways which needed to be hit, but they were fair. I do think that hole 16 is just too narrow and really more of a plinko hole. Removing a few trees would improve it.

Excellent concrete tee pads, large and flat. Good baskets. The couple of "new signs" that were installed looked nice.

Cons:

The old tee signs are really showing their age. Little useful information as far as the layout of the hole. The few new signs that were up looked much better. Hopefully the full set will be installed soon.

Course flow was a little difficult in some areas. Unfortunately the "next tee" signs are virtually useless. Printing out the map helped.

Minimal elevation on the course. I disagree with the description of "Moderately Hilly" but didn't change it as other reviewers haven't mentioned it.

Other Thoughts:

This is a solid course that would benefit from completing the sign update and some better "next hole" indicators. It was terribly muddy the day I played, but the area had gotten a lot of rain.

The better course. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 3, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good technical course with some great wooded holes. Nice variety of shot type demanded. I'll play this one again when I go back there.

Cons:

A little tough to navigate, and I'm not a huge fan of concrete tees, but they'll last.

Other Thoughts:

A better course, overall than Albert Oakland, which I've played a couple times.

Decent Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 31, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

It has both open fairways and wooded fairways, so you get plenty of both worlds. There is a decent variety in hole lengths.

Cons:

The wooded holes are tight and unforgiving. The open holes are hardly creative. Definitely nothing fancy about this course.

Other Thoughts:

By itself it stands as a very playable course, but when compared to the Oakland front and back courses nearby, this course should only be a supplement to your disc golf day.
