Pros:

(1.521 Rating) A very nice looking beginners course.
- BIGGINER FRIENDLY - Jackson Park has little overgrowth, wide fairways and no water hazards. All of the holes are listed under 240 feet in length. I'm sure most would agree that these are good characteristic for a course to take first timers and beginners to.
- ACEABILITY - Wow, if you want your first ace, this is the place to play. Other than hole (5) which is blind, skilled played will be eyeing the chains on every hole.
- FORGIVENESS - Other than hole (5) left, the odds of losing a disc due to an errant shot is near impossible. you'd have to forget to pick up to lose one here.
- COURSE MAP - An awesome stone engraved course map. That's a first for me.
- NAVIGATION - I had no issues on my first go around solo. I will note however that hole (9) appears to have an altered location.
- MAINTENANCE - The grounds appear to be constantly mowed, trimmed and manicured. I don't recall seeing any trash on my visit.
- QUICK PLAY - If you have 20 minutes, you'll be able to run all 9 holes and be back in your car ready to hit the next course.
- NATURAL BEAUTY - For courses I've rated this low, its well above average. Holes (4) and (5) are definitely the bread winners out here. Lots of wild flower were blooming during my visit along these two holes and it carried the rest of the course.
- CHAINS - Really great looking blue powder coated Mach New 2s. Unfortunately a typical comment when you run out of good things to say about a course.

Cons:

One major flaw and the rest are your typical 9 hole city park issues.
- TEE AREA - Nice concrete tees, but major oversight in placing the beautiful monument stone tee signs directly behind the tee. I definitely had to alter my footwork dance to the tee line as the stone signs played a substantial mind game with my head.
- LACK OF CHALLENGE - Every hole is birdieable, even for recreation players. I could see an intermediate players going 9 down every 50 rounds or so. Advanced players will only need a putter.
- UNIQUENESS - Well below average. All short holes between 190 and 240 feet. 8 of the 9 holes are straight with only hole (5) curving a little bit. (5) is also the only blind basket and was by far my favorite shot along the layout with wild flowers blooming all along the left side. Most of the holes offer little or no shot shaping. All of the holes are par 3s and there is no water to contend with.
- ELEVATION - Nada
- CHARACTER - Other than an amazing shelter with picnic tables and restrooms, Jackson park is missing just about all the other course extras that you'll see on established courses. No multi tees or alternate basket placements. No practice basket, places to sit or places to stow a bag either.
- MULTI USE HAZARDS - Paths and other park amenities come into play on a few holes. Not the worst I've seen for a city park course, but still much less than ideal.
- SPACING - Holes (5) and (6) share a fairway. Holes (2,7 and 8) all appear to want attack those standing on tee (3). Not the tightest layout I've played, but again, less than ideal.

Other Thoughts:

No doubt a beginners and recreational players course. I would not recommend checking this course out if you're an advanced player looking for the next exotic challenge. However, If you're looking for a laid back round after a long days work, Jackson Park may be the place to go, especially if you live in town.
