Mostly wide open but there's trouble

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 26, 2022 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Excellent course for a beginner, mostly

Always mowed and in good shape

New tees

Four holes have a longer basket, which are very difficult

They changed the 550-yard par 3 over water to a par 4. Seems reasonable!

Very easy to navigate since it is mostly in an open field with a few trees so the next tee is usually visible. #5 to #6 can be slightly confusing but it's there.

The water hazards, when they do come into play, are intimidating

The back basket on #18 turns a dull par 3 into a great par 4. Your last shot becomes similar to your first shot, diagonal over the water. It's a great way to start/finish.

The new signs are fun.

The 11th Hole can be played as a more exciting 700-foot par 5 if you walk back to the circular cement pad.

Cons:

After a great first hole which plays diagonally across a creek, the next 3 holes are pretty much exactly the same. And there are about 6 more holes just like them coming up.

There are 9 really good holes here and 9 that are just sort of there.

Holes 6-17 are practically on top of each other, with walking paths. It can be a parade of people walking in front of you, especially during a tournament.

The creek is tough. You're going to need a disc grabber if you play here much. If you throw a disc in you can wade into the creek and get it at times, but it's very muddy. Just stay out of the creek

There are no bridges so you do have to walk out into the public street sometimes to get across the creek.

Other Thoughts:

It can be a little tough to find the first tee, it's not the one you can see near the entrance. You have to drive in a little bit and it's right next to the creek. The course has kind of odd mix of very easy, even borderline boring holes, combined with some very challenging and strategic holes that can really hammer you. Having to throw over the creek on your first shot is a bit scary. it's not a crazy hard course though, even an average player can shoot par if they aren't missing putts. most of the par 3s are around 300 feet so reachable with some practice. Changing the long par 3 along the road to a par 4 was a good idea...not many people can reach a 550-foot hole with an island green I like this place, but it's really a must to have a disc retriever.. It's easy to go into the creeks and difficult to get back out.

The course is always well maintained, but it's also very busy, and not just with disc golfers. There is a walking trail right through the middle of it, and there's soccer and fishing going on almost all the time. in the winter it's not so busy though and is very pleasant, but it can be chaos in the summer, which is why the local league rarely goes there, and they don't have a lot of tournaments.

As for the difficulty, even par playing to all the short baskets (the yellows) is usually rated around 870. Plus 5 is about an 800 rating.

There are 4 holes with long baskets (red) and they are substantially more difficult. On #1, the red basket is 60 feet farther, with more water hazards. #5 turns an already tough 220 shot to a very narrow peninsula into a 300-foot dogleg to the same peninsula. Still par 3. #17's red basket is just cruel, another 80 feet farther up the hill, still par 3. Only #18's red basket adds one to the par, since it's now 570-feet with a second shot diagonal over a creek. Problem is, it's rarely playable due to traffic. Even in a tournament it's tough to use because of all the backtracking you have to do.

Still when they do use all of the longs, even par is rated around 900.

Beautiful Park!! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 15, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Rubber tee pads for every hole and with the exception of one or two they are all in excellent condition.
Great tee signs and basket markers which make for a very smooth course. One of the easiest courses to navigate that I have played so far. (I've only been on 5 courses so far so that's not saying a lot)
Excellent parking right around the first tee pad.
First tee pad has score cards and a lost and found disc box.
Great variety of shots are offered on this course with some elevation change and lots of OB water. The creek is just small enough that you can still retrieve your disks. (I went OB 6 times without losing a disc)

Cons:

My biggest gripe might be more of a rookie concern but I dont understand why this course doesn't offer any par 4 or 5s. There is tons of room but all 18 holes are par 3s.
This park is busy with people walking and running through add the two roads that several holes play along and its not the most relaxing course.

Other Thoughts:

Pros far outweigh the cons here and I can't wait to be back. I particularly like hole 1 as it's kinda sets the tone for the course. As a beginner (2 months in) I certainly struggled to stay in bounds ( I shot +18 ) and only got 1 birdie so I would certainly say it's not the most beginner friendly. However I can't wait to try it again in a few months.

A bit of everything 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 27, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Variety is definitely a major factor here. The course has a little of everything. Wide open, some holes with trees(not needle and thread type but...) uphill, downhill. The course plays fairly well and I'm venturing to guess it would be a favorite for new players as a good many holes are pretty wide open. The course has its's challenges too

Cons:

It's Pro's kind of translate into it's Cons. The wide open holes are more or less straight shots. On Hole 8 I was confused about which basket belonged to hole 8 or 9. After ripping my shot to the basket I thought it was and walking to my lie, I realized I mistakenly threw to basket 9. Water is a major factor here. Definitely making it more challenging but the holes with water use the water as OB. These water ways are canal channels so good luck if you throw a swimmer.

With water playing such a huge part of the course, access to both sides via bridges of the waterways would be useful without taking a tour of the entire park.

Other Thoughts:

Over all I'd say this is a nice course. I would play here again. For the more experienced players I'd say bring your flippers and have fun.

Decent Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 14, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The tee pads are great. A great place to work on distance. Very well kept. The mando on hole 17 is something I like. A nice quiet place. I like how hole 1 is a hole that goes right instead of straight or left and contend with the water.

Cons:

Too open. I love working on distance but I like the idea of throwing a long way accurately and trees are a wonderful teacher. Too much forgiveness with the wide openness. Needs to be more ways to cross the little creek because of placement of the baskets.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, I think this course is a good course.

Nice Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 24, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Looks are deceiving. At first glace it looked very open and simple, but once you get started it was very challenging. The creeks and out of bounds areas make for very fun play.

Cons:

The course is brand new, but there definately needs to be a few bridges over the creeks. If you happen to through over the creek by accident, you can either wade across or walk all the way around the course to get to your disc.

Other Thoughts:

Its going to be a great course in a few years once the bridges are in place and some of the young trees grow.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 8, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course is great for all different skill levels. Starts out with some shorter holes than gets more challenging as the holes get longer. Lots of OB, so disc placement is a huge factor. There is a ton of water!!!

Cons:

The biggest con to this course is no bridge crossings. It's difficult to retrieve disc If you throw on to the other side of the creek. I'm told there are bridges being installed in the future. That would be the only con of this course.

Other Thoughts:

Alternate pin placements for some of the shorter holes to make it more challeging.
