If You Build It, They Won't Come. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 6, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

(1.144 Rating) A Novice level small city park course.
- QUICK PLAY - Well for baggers, this course is a gold mine. It took me 20 minutes to play and I was back in my car to hit the next course, Hobbs Farm. Foursomes should be down in 45 minutes or less.
- ACEABILITY - My brain kept envisioning chains being smashed, but no such luck. There are five sub 200 foot light obstacle or open plays. I figure a skilled player should chalk up an ace every 20 rounds or so. There are 96 DGCR rounds recorded here as of this review and there are 6 recorded aces.
- BEGINNER FRIENDLY - A near ideal new players course. Lightly wooded and short. However, there are some undeniable site issues that will cause some concerns, see cons.
- CHAINS - For a course that's almost ten years old, the DISCatchers are in amazing shape. It's almost as if no one plays here.
- NAVIGATION - Adequate. Although there are no directional aids on site, the park is so open it's just a matter of spotting the next numbered 4 by 4 post. The map on DGCR was accurate as of April 2018.
- MAINTENANCE - The entire park was mowed, there was no trash and there were no downed tree limbs.

Cons:

There are lots of issues with this course.
- FENCE - Holes (6) and especially (7) have a barbed wire fence in play. The fence is about 30 feet from (6) basket and 15 feet from (7) basket. I felt very uneasy throwing (7). In addition, a pool fence is within 20 feet of the line on (8). A misfire that goes over during off hours will have players contemplating jumping the 8 foot high fence.
- SAFETY HAZARDS - In addition to the fences, several holes play around walking paths. Tee (8) and (9) are basically in the park roadway. Hole (9) plays along the park road along for the entire length as well.
- LACK OF CHALLENGE - As a 915 rated player I shot 6 down and can away dissatisfied. I'm pretty sure If I played enough rounds here I could hit 9 down. Novice level players should able to break par out here.
- CHARACTER - Pretty much no disc golf related amenities. There are great baskets and wood posts with a hole number. That's it. As for park amenities, there are tables and shelters. Restrooms are also available during the facilities open hours.
- TEES - They are natural ground without a defined line. Tee (5) has protruding roots. Normally one will see worn teeing paths but they were strangely almost invisible.
- ELEVATION - Nada. Well ok, (4) goes up 10 feet and (5) goes down 10 feet.
- UNIQUENESS - In addition to no elevation, the overall variety is pretty bleak. Mostly putter runs for skilled players. The longest hole is 320 feet. I don't think I'd classify one hole out here as moderately wooded. The only water feature is the fenced off pool.
- LOCATION - This course is in the middle of nowhere. The next closest course is almost 30 minutes away.
- NATURAL BEAUTY - Nothing here is going to get the imaginative juices flowing. It's an open park with a spattering of trees. There are some eyesores with the barbed wire fence property, as junk is littered about. Roads and buildings are in view during the entire layout.

Other Thoughts:

This appears to be a course that has failed to attract a following. From the looks I got from the walkers in the park, I imaged thoughts like "So that's what those are for" and "What in the heck is he doing." When designing a course to be the first in area, you can't have it this open and this short. It will fail, as there's nothing thrilling or inspiring to keep the newer player hooked on improving. No wonder the baskets still look new. The course layout needs an adjustment to provide at least lower Recreational level challenges.
