Pros:

Free! Great baskets and signs! Lots of elevation changes, long and short holes. Really neat bridges. Lots of different hole types. A few Chances for an ace! Makes you use all of your shots! Nice view of the green mountains. A field you can warm up can see it from the parking lot.

Cons:

No basket to warm up with. a few holes are kind of the same. Tees most of the time have holes in the dirt. Can get really muddy after it rains, and a few swamps. Lots of beer bottles. Some holes cross each other so have your heads up!

Other Thoughts:

From the parking lot in the VAC (Visual Arts Center) on the campus of Johnson State College, if looking in the direction the 7th basket, look to your right and walk across the road. There is a trailhead with a chain running across it, which leads you to the first 6 holes. The first 6 holes are the most technical the Johnson course has to offer. The front 12 holes which starts about 30 feet from the parking lot. (Facing away from the main campus.) These holes are not so much technical but the wind plays a huge factor on the front 12. If you get to play this course without the wind, a good score will come your way. This course has great Discatcher Baskets. The tee pads are the only problem with this course. They are not well maintained and most of the time has holes in the dirt. Other than the tee pads this is a great course, lots of elevation changes, mix of wooded and field holes, and an empty your bag #15! All Holes are par 3, Execept holes 7, 16, 17, making it a par 57 course. Brand new signs for all the holes have just been put up! Enjoy the course!

Hole 1 - This hole is very short. There is a swamp to the left of the fairway. The basket is protected by some pretty big trees. Watch out for people teeing off on hole #2.

Hole 2 - Not very long but can be a problem if your drive goes left or right. There is a big drop off behind the basket.

Hole 3 - This hole starts with big trees around the tee off that are very unforgiving if you hit one on your first shot. Trees about ¾ of the way up the fair way can be very tricky to get through. A hard par 3 if you don't have a good tee shot. Another set of tees closer.

Hole 4 - This hole might be one of the harder holes on the course. It has trees everywhere. The best line for this hole is a nice S shot. (RHBH) There is a drop off to the left of the basket with a small brook. Watch out for people shooting on the 5th hole because the fairway is right next to the tee off.

Hole 5 - This hole is protected by a lot of trees. The basket is much higher than the tee, and there are a few different lines you can hit in order to get the disc to stop on the upper level. A missed putt here can be a problem because of the huge bank that is in front of the basket. Have your head up for discs coming from the 4th.

Hole 6 - The easiest hole on the first 6 holes. It is a straight shot with a slight up hill. Don't go to far too the right as there is a big drop off. Swamp to the left. Trashcan on this hole.

Hole 7 - Hole 7 is a par 4. Nice big fairway with two big trees on both sides of the fairway that have taken many discs in the gut. This hole has lots of big trees, but is open enough to find a nice shot at the basket.

Hole 8 - This is a nice shot down at the basket. From the tee box to the basket there are some nice big trees that are right in the middle. Take your pick of trying to go through them, or get a nice shot around them or go to the right or left. This hole is always pretty swampy but it is fun. Trashcan on this hole.

Hole 9 - Watch out for golfers on the 10th tee as that fairways cross. This hole you need to have very good control of your disc. There are tons of trees all about 10 - 20 feet apart and everywhere. Another huge tree that also has taken many discs hitting it. Can even shoot backdoor (between the two big trees on the left) and get a really nice shot. There is another set of tees for this hole.

Hole 10 - Watch out for discs from hole 9. This hole is a nice straight shot to the basket. Basket is protected by a big tree and bush. Pretty wet most of the time from the big rock on the left to the basket.

Hole 11 - This hole you can shoot a nice sidearm shot into the nice open fairway and have it bank right in to the basket, or try your luck and go through the trees in front of the basket. Have to shoot over a swamp that's about 100 feet long. Neat bridge.

Hole 12 - This hole has huge trees everywhere. Can get to the pin from all directions, left, right, and straight. Take your pick!

Hole 13 - Very short hole nice straight line right to the basket. Have to shoot over a swamp. Cool bridge.

Next holes wind plays big part.

Hole 14 - Nice par 3. Can shoot to the left or right. Big trees in the middle of the fairways. Watch out for tee off shots for #15. Hard 2nd shot on this hole due to the hill the basket sits on.

Hole 15 - Empty your bag hole! Huge difference between the hole and basket. Have fun! Nice view at the top of this hill of the green mountains. Watch out for #14 players.

Hole 16 - Uphill par 4. This is an easy birdie if you have a nice tee shot. Another set of tees on this one. Trashcan located on this tee.

Hole 17 - Another par 4. Shoot up the hill then basket is located down by a large group of evergreens. Don't throw past this basket because of large hill your disc can travel down. Enjoy. Another set of tees.

Hole 18 - From the 17th basket, walk across the road then walk on the path towards the main campus and tee is to the right of the path. This hole is a nice one to end the course. Light pole and trees a little ways in front of the tee off, but have a nice tee shot and your doing good! Basket by the green building under the large trees. Parking lot is across the soccer field.

See the file section for the map I posted.

After a round of disc golf go down into town and stop at the hub, great pizza and beer, live bands, and just a cool place to hang out.
