‘Marsh’ian’ Nine 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 20, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This community friendly park has a pretty little pond with a deck overlook, a skate park, some shelters, sports courts, a walking path (that actually is 'named' on google maps!), and a nine hole disc golf course that weaves through the sparse trees with distances ranging from 160 to 324 feet. The concrete tees are very large in width and good in length. Tee signs indicate distances well (a couple of shots feel longer - but that just might be my old guy arm complaining), and the dga Mach3 baskets catch well.

Shots range from the lake edge crossing opener, to three (2, 3 & 7) requiring a decision on lines to take through the park trees, to four (4, 6, 8 & 9) fairly open, to the ace run #5. Some holes (1, 5 & 8) require a little bit of control to keep your landing zone accurate, and out of the drainage line, a 4' wide concrete course that channels rainwater to the lake. Even with the water hazard, though, it would take a 'special' kind of shot to lose a disc here.

The course is a quick play that could be used as a warmup before heading out to the much more challenging Riney B course nearby, but otherwise won't be terribly attractive to the competitive disc golfer.

Cons:

The park has non-disc golfing patrons in all seasons, as the skate park and path are almost always in use. The layout of the course requires crossing the 'drains' at least six times, and getting to the bridges can be a little unusual. The first basket, for instance, now lies just short of a secondary channel of flowing water, meaning if you don't want to leap it, you have to walk left to the second bridge, and then loop up the hill to the second tee. And you might want to take a map for your first play, as there are no 'next tee' indicators.

The course lies mostly in the marshy low area of the park, and can be extremely wet after or during rain (especially on holes 1, 4, 8 & 9). Hole 1 doesn't just catch the corner of the lake, but flies just over the park bench added at that corner, so you'll need to share the park appropriately if folks are there. I've seen people fishing off the first tee, as well. Finally, it would not be wrong to name holes 2 & 8 'goose crap hill', or 'duck crap flats', respectively.

Other Thoughts:

I've visited here a couple of times, once on a sunny spring day, and another on a rainy Christmas weekend Friday, and enjoyed the course. Clearly it's tucked into a fairly densely populated area, and these folks are lucky to have a fairly well maintained, beginner friendly course in their backyard.

Ready for a warm up? Practice at best 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 5, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Real short holes that are virtually straight with zero obstacles. The eight hole is probably the most chanllenging with just a few trees in the way. Real quick coarse

Cons:

Short holes and not a lot of paths yto lead the way to the next whole. Good for practice/warm up at best
