2nd place course in town, but still good 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 4, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

1. Solid, if not great beginner course. Even the heavy tree holes have big gaps in them and obvious lines for all skill levels.

2. Beautiful park. Two lakes, both designed well into play. Big trees, and an overall pretty place.

3. Can NEVER discount concrete pads on a 9 hole course. Usually, it's dirt only on these, but the holes they have are designed well.

4. Close to Clark Centennial, so if you need to get in another 9 somewhere else, it makes a really cool 18 hole course.

Cons:

1. Trash, trash, trash. This is the dirtiest park I've ever played in. Seriously Longmont, take care of your park. I started picking up trash, but quickly just gave up because the trash cans were full.

2. Not a lot of varying lengths. I'm not asking for a 200' hole following a 700' hole, but maybe some holes for shorter arms. They have the locations, according to the signs, maybe I just missed the day where those are like that.

3. I'm not sure if people have amnesia when they come to this park, but I'm willing to wager that most of the people that come here have been here before... and yet you'd think they've never seen disc golf. I had a guy and his toddler playing catch in the MIDDLE of a fairway on a hole. He seemed to not really worry about the possibility of his son taking a disc to the dome. But the whole park is filled with these people. I know we have to share, but that goes both ways.

Other Thoughts:

Some sketchy characters hang out at that park, but they haven't bugged me yet.

Nice Neighborhood Park Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 27, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Nice concrete tee-pads
-Nice tee-signs that give distance, show each pin position and show the layout of the hole.
-The baskets are looking at little old, but they still catch well.
-Practice basket right near hole 1.
-Hole 1 and 3 play over the pond that the park has. The water is done well on this course, as it can be easily avoided by beginners but still provides some risk reward for more advanced players.
-The park is well-taken care of and other than the pond, you won't have to worry about losing a disc here.
-They made good use of the available terrain and features here. Many of the fairways are fairly wide open but a decent amount of the holes play to guarded baskets or have the available trees pretty well placed.
-The course is fairly easy to navigate as it is usually pretty obvious where the next tee-pad is.
-Each hole has two different pin positions and hole 2 has an alternate tee-pad.
-The course has a good variety of distance on it with holes ranging from about 207 feet to 440 feet.
-Trashcans on each tee-pad

Cons:

-There are a lot of other park users that did not seem very aware of the disc golf course. There were a lot of people that like to sit along the pond. We had to alter the way we played hole 3 because someone was sitting along the edge of the pond that the hole plays over and wouldn't move. There were also quite a few walking through the course that you might have to wait for to throw.
-The pond looked pretty nasty and it would not be fun trying to retrieve a disc that went into it.
-Overall, the course doesn't require you to throw a huge variety of different shots.
-Some baskets throw to baskets hidden in trees, and once or twice we threw toward the wrong basket, so on your first time playing make sure you know which basket you are aiming for.
-A couple of the tee-pads are on sidewalks, which interferes with other park users.
-Several holes play up along a road, and near a playground, and a bad shot could lead to some safety issues.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, this is a fun 9 hole course with a couple nice water holes. The biggest flaw of this course are the other park users that get in the way of play. Despite that flaw, this course is a quick fun stop if you are in the area.

One of 2 solid 9-ers in Longmont 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 17, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Tee Pads are in great condition. Baskets are bright yellow Innova baskets and very easy to see. Signs at every Tee Box. Multiple pin Placements. Small trash bins are at every tee sign. Park is clean with well kept grass. Practice Basket at the beginning of the course. Course Map is posted at the bulletin board at the start of the course.

Course makes a loop around the park. The pond is in play on holes 1 and 3 adding to the challenge of the course. A nice gazebo by the practice basket is a great place to take a water break in between rounds. Public restrooms and a drinking fountain on site by the tee pad for 7 (or was it 8?). Hole distances are pretty varied, there's a long position on 9 for 500+ feet. Navigation is pretty intuitive. Friendly locals. Another good 9 hole course is less than two miles away.

Cons:

There are few trees to throw around; the course could be a little more challenging. Since it's next to Longmont High School, there is a lot of after school foot traffic through the park. If you lose a disc in the pond, the likelihood that you can retrieve it is very low (that water is murky!). Course also feels a little crammed, there's only about 6 square blocks of space.

Other Thoughts:

This is a nice little rec course with a few challenging holes. With Clark Centennial Park close by, its easy to make an 18 hole day of play without leaving town. I saw that they had a little local tournament too split between the two courses. The Longs Peak Disc Golf Club keeps up both courses and it's great to see disc golf alive and well in Longmont.

Good practice round 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 4, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Very clean park setting.
-Concrete tees and signs at every hole.
-Multiple pin placements.
-Water in play on two holes adds risk.
-Brand new baskets, with a practice basket at the first tee.
-Good variety of hole distances, with a few air it out holes and a few ace runs.
-Good use of the mature trees in the park, leading to nice, defined lines.
-Restrooms on site.
-The pavillion on hole 1 is a great "staging area" for the frequent league/doubles nights.

Cons:

-The park is a shared park, and gets crowded. It's not terrible, but you'll likely end up waiting for walkers, or giving a heads-up shout to the groups of kids that seem to gather. All in all, everybody is understanding.
-Johnny Law! Watch those beers, 'cause they will be. We had some officers watch us with binoculars for four holes...
-Most holes tend to be hyzer lines, which can get repetitive. Still worth a play.
-If your disc goes in the pond, kiss it goodbye. It gets deep fast, but is easily avoidable.

Other Thoughts:

This park is right up the street from Clark Centennial, which is another nine-holer. The two together are worth the trip to Longmont. Both are very well maintained, and fun to play. It's easy to sneak a couple of rounds on either within a couple of hours, and the alternate tee placements do a great job of keeping them from getting stale. I consider them both my local practice courses, and the Long's Peak Disc Golf Club is very active on both. There are regular meet-ups on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and they are always eager to play with new folks. Worth the trip, and you can bag two fun courses in an afternoon!

Fun for just 9 holes 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 9, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This is similar to expo park in Aurora, with the exception of the water is not all swampy. There are a few trees offering shade along with a nice pond in the middle of the park.

Cons:

This course is too short.

Other Thoughts:

This is a small city park, with plenty of other pedestrians walking around. Be careful before you tee off.

Very Polished Nine Holer 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 8, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

There are multiple pin positions, and most are easy open positions to spot from the tee box. Number nine has a whopping four pin positions, and the long plays across number one over 500'. Depending on placement, the course plays longer than 2674' length posted on this site, so big arms will still enjoy this place.

There are large concrete tees, and full color signs indicating the length of each pin position. There is even a small trashcan attached to each tee marker, which is a great little feature you don't see on many courses.

There is water in play on holes #1, #2, #3, but #1 is the only place where losing a disc seemed like a possibility. The park is itself is flat, but well done with playgrounds and bathrooms so you can keep the family happy while you get in a round.

BEST HOLE/S: #9

Cons:

The course itself is pretty repetitive. Although there are an okay amount of trees, I found myself getting a little bored after #5.

The fantastic pond, as mentioned in previous reviews, isn't a real integrated feature anymore - which is unfortunate since it's the best part of this flat straight forward course. There are also walking trails with lots of foot traffic that can slow down your round.

WORST HOLE/S: #4; #5

Other Thoughts:

I was happy to make Loomiller Park my 100th course played. Although it's not a destination location, the installers did a fantastic job of making this place look good. They put in quality boxes, signage, and choices on pin placement, which far and away gives Longmont the most polished courses in the northern Colorado area.

Granted it's only nine holes, but the equally good and newer Clark Centennial Park is right down the road - making it the best one two combo north of Denver. In my opinion, Edora Park in Fort Collins, and Oxbow DGC in Windsor are better individual front range courses, but I would be happy to have Longmont and Loomiller Park or Clark Centennial Park be my home course.

Good 9 hole play 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 21, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is set in a beautiful park with nice grass and some scattered pines that provide most of the challenge. The first hole requires a nice drive over a small pond. The pond also comes into play on a later hole as well. Most holes are fairly open and short to medium range in length. A couple of holes lie in line with the road making this a danger zone and a good challenge. Not too much accuracy required, so if you can throw 400' drives, every hole can be a potential 2 on the scorecard.

Cons:

Loomiller park is very close to the high school, making this a busy area during weekday hours. Other than a few moderately technical holes, the course is pretty open and flat.

Other Thoughts:

When I played it was about 2 hours before sunset on a weekend. The course was empty, looked great, and I had an enjoyable round with my fair share of birdies.

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 14, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good 9 hole nestled in the center of Longmont, Co. Extremly technical course with Old trees and water that plays into Hole 1, 2 and 3. Mulitple locations for Baskets keep course interesting. A good mix of length and some long holes make this course a challenging 9 hole. Very easy to navigate. All tee pads are cement and well marked.

Cons:

Constant traffic that can block off or hold up holes. Holes 4, 5 and 9 play along very busy side streets and cars are always parked along the road. This makes it much more technical But a bad shot and you can take out a car easy.

Other Thoughts:

A fun course that is a quick to play and a lot of diversity. Traffic on this course can make you have to skip a hole or two. Overall a fun course.

Loomiller in Longmont 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 1, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

* Open shots
* Nice pin placement variety
* Water hazard in play

Cons:

* Paths & people through the middle of the park
* Not enough obstacles

Other Thoughts:

For a 9 hole course in a small park, this course is pretty decent. The creators of this course did a GREAT job with the space they had. But, the foot traffic through the middle of the park (and course) can be pretty frustrating. This is a great practice course, but once you have your shots down, it can get a little repetative. Good course to play, but not one you want to be your home course all of the time.

Pros:

great little 9-hole for beginners, but tough enough for seasoned players, nice obstacles (trees etc..), great use of the lake, nothing too bad where a disc will be lost, looks like lights around and the park is open till 11PM so possible night play.

Cons:

on-line map out of date, and no map at site, tough to figure out where it starts, now #1 starts at the gazeebo at the north end of the park

Other Thoughts:

Do not go after school hours as it is by a H.S. and many kids will probably be hanging out, also i left just as a lunch crowd from school was getting into the park, about 11:00 AM

Play in water, Play on streets 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 1, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

The is a pretty decent course for a 9 hole course. It offers a wide variety in shots that include over the water and through trees. Some holes provide ace opportunities and others you will need to pull out the big driver. Overall the course was clean, trash cans at each tee box helps!

Cons:

It is a little bit of a drive for Denver, and the park was pretty busy. There is a playground between hole 1 and 2 and these kids were yelling and going crazy. Also some holes run along a street that seemed pretty busy for a residential area.

Other Thoughts:

1st tee is on the back end of the park, there is a picnic table with shelter right by it. Bring a map if you can, it will help you speed your round up looking for the next tee.

Come for the disc golf stay for the Pump House 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 6, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course offers some good shots for both beginning and established players. I have made an effort to come up to this course to play a quick round. There are a few over the water shots and many where one must avoid the trees.

Cons:

The course is far for Denverites to hit on a regular basis. There are a few shots in which the road is very close with active traffic.

Other Thoughts:

The guy who wades in the ponds is the best. I got a killer stratus from him that I love so kudos. He is cheap on selling and will grab and that you skank into the water. I like to hit the brewery restaurant called the Pump House when I go up Longmont. Very tasty end to a great disc golf day. Also check out Uncle Mike's BBQ on 11th right near the course.

Pros:

With a few water holes and a "I think it's behind that tree straight ahead" shot it is a pretty good 9 hole. Nice trash cans on almost every tee sign. Groovy old timer wading for lost discs on the two water holes. $1 tip was worth getting my Coyote back.

Cons:

Meandering drunk ruined our round. I don't know if he is always there, just bring your bug and drunk repellent to be safe.

Other Thoughts:

I would go back but I would wait for any gatherings in the park to leave.
