Pros:
Pulling into Malone College , I drove to the back end of the lot and immediately saw the first basket way up on the top of a short steep hill . The course has different color brick toe boards for each hole . The printable map on DGC is one of the better ones I have seen , showing the long and short tees on all 9 holes . There is some length to several of these holes , and plenty of elevation . The course has a flow to it , kind of out and back in an L . Baskets in good shape , creative basket placement with what the school had to work with . A good signature hole in #8 , a tunnel shot through the trees .
Cons:
#1 Once you get into the back part of the course , navigation becomes screwy with #s 5 & 6 , and the basket is missing on #7. A missing basket on a 9 hole course is sad . #2 . Brick toe boards . I praise the fact that Malone has a college course and 2 tee pads per hole , but these might be a little TOO basic . #3 . Wind . Not only is it windy , but there are a couple of spots where an errant throw could result in your disc going over a barbed wire fence or in a fenced in small building in between holes 5 , 6 and 7 . #4 . Dangerously close to parking lots , practice fields and a building . These + wind = thud . #5 . with the exception of hole 8 , the rest of these are just rip and grip . Nothing to really hit be sides maybe a bush or 2 on #5 , too . No benches really needed because this course is likely not played much . No trash cans , so carry in and out .
Other Thoughts:
I never put courses down that encourage the game of disc golf and are taken care of . Although disappointed that there were only 8 baskets , some care went into developing the course design and putting 2 tees in per basket . There are plenty of 9 hole courses and Arboretum-Spiker park to add with this one to make a full day of disc golf . Keep your drives low , but play this course and see what you think , and if you are a Malone College student , then what are you waiting for ? Pick up a disc and throw a few .
