Good first course - playable within an hour 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 22, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice open 9-hole course. Can be played in under an hour. Mostly open with two holes that have "fairways" cut from tall grass and one tree tunnel (#8). It was my first course, and I thought it was good for a beginner. Free to play. Played in mid-June and didn't run into any other players at all.

Cons:

Not overly challenging. No water. OB shouldn't ever come into play unless you throw wildly. Quite hilly. Sits between campus and the highway.

Other Thoughts:

It's on the campus of Malone U. First tee is NE of the parking lot to the North of Blossom Hall.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 25, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a great course for beginners and the experienced player. Many opportunities to get long drives because the course is for the most part wide open. This makes it great for trying out new drivers. The elevation changes make for a nice challenge.

Cons:

A few of the tees are hard to find.I could only find one tee on hole 8.

Other Thoughts:

Nice warm up course to play before going to a 18 hole course.

Good Windy Hike 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 22, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

~ Excellent baskets with hole indicators
~ Favorable layout with an out and back loop
~ Course is well marked, tee pads are easy to find
~ (3) tees per hole add great variety to the course
~ Deceptively more challenging than it looks
~ Good location, great use of the land

Cons:

~ Wide open land, however the natural terrain is put to good use
~ Natural tee pads, but the ground is level and firm
~ Other accommodations are unavailable, a shelter and restroom facility would be great

Other Thoughts:

The only other use I am aware of for this tract of land would be the handful of cross country meets every year so putting in a 9 hole course in this location is a great thought. It is wide open, but the course is spread over big, rolling hills. I found the challenge lies within the long slopes and heavy cross winds. It's easy for a disc to get blown off course and/or rolled away a great distance. Red, white and blue tees on each hole create enough variety and the blues add a considerable amount of length thus providing greater challenges. The course flows well and the up and down hiking keeps your heart rate up enough to stay loose. Plenty to offer for a 9 hole course and unlike any of the other courses in the area which is a key draw. Please respect the University's policies.
