The Gem of Fayetteville 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 22, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Every type of hole you could ask for. There are tight wooded shots, lightly wooded, Wide open field, long narrow hallway of trees. Good tee boxes, Nice Pins, Mostly dedicated to Disc Golfers. Very Pretty

Cons:

On a few holes you have to wait for joggers as its a shared park and the jogging trail literally cuts in front of tee boxes and down the side of a few fairways. There are no benches, doesn't bother me but to some it might.

Other Thoughts:

Overall this course is great fun to play! Its technical. There are very tight tree tee offs as well as wide open shots.. Hole 7 is a tee off down a straight corridor of huge pine trees! After playing a good number of top quality courses I realize how awesome this course is.

Good distration from Hospital 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 23, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beautiful park on the lake.
Well kept grass and little trash on the grounds.
Friendly locals who helped me navigate course or allow me to play through.
Good mix of long/short holes and it seemed most baskets were set in woods with open fairways.

Cons:

Several of the wooded holes along the lake seemed to be "throw and hope" as no real possible paths to the baskets. That being said it did make you think about your shots.
Navigation: I was lucky to play with two locals so had no problems finding next tee pads but could see how a few could be hard to find on your own.

Other Thoughts:

I was in town visiting my sick father in law at the VA hospital for the weekend so was a good distraction to get away and play a couple rounds at this park. I would return to play again if in the area.

One other note: when entering park stay to the road to the left as the road to the right is a parking lot for the marina and I had to ask directions. Was no signs directing me to disc golf park.

Decent course in beautiful area 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 26, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Concrete tees, mowed fairways, beautiful location surrounding the lake.

Cons:

Heavily wooded in some areas, most holes located behind groves of trees.

Other Thoughts:

Overall a decent 18 hole course, located in a beautiful area in the Ozarks. Some holes are better suited for beginners, and some for more advanced players. I'd return here in the future.

Northshore... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 11, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good scenery, right next to the lake. Good balance of wooded/open holes. A few more open than wooded. Hole 7 is awesome with trees on both sides throughout the 450 ft. hole. Concrete tee pads are in good condition. Signs are at most tees, but a few of them are knocked down or missing. Innova DisCatchers in fairly good condition. Navigation is easy. I found all 18 baskets and tees, but a few (13 and 7) are a little difficult to find.

Cons:

No trash cans or benches (except a log or two). Hole 1 doesn't have a tee sign so it isn't as easy to find as it should be. Message board at the front of the course doesn't have very much information. A few holes (such as 1 and 12) seem overly wooded. I was asking myself if it was an actual hole. Some holes can get muddy. Some of the baskets have been signed (some of them because someone got a birdie(who signs for a birdie?)) and bikers/walkers can get in the way.

Other Thoughts:

This course is very fun to play. I would definitely play this one again.

Lavish Lakeside Resort Holes 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 14, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course has a nice variety of holes. There is a nice balance of open holes and wooded holes. The holes that are wooded and right along the lake are beautiful. The lake really doesn't come into play, but a really errant shot could find its way there. The paths in the wooded holes are very well defined and make that part of the navigation not that difficult. #12 is a heavily wooded hole that has 2 pin locations and they actually had a basket for each. The long location was a really nice difficult navigating route. #7 is a nice long tunnel shot that was also quite fun to tee off on. One hole even has a high route over trees, along way around them, or a small window you can try to throw through. Some of the wide-open holes have a tree or some simple obstacle to continue it being a challenge. Like I said, this course has some great variety. It has a real bathroom, trashcans, and good parking.

Cons:

Navigation is a bit rough. Grab a guide or hook up with someone. Any map posted on this site before 2010 is no good for this course as the course has been updated since then. I hate repeating things, but the tee pads are horrible. Some of the pads are at their worst when they are with tree roots; not that the dirt ruts are much better. The tee signs are out dated and inaccurate. This park is also very busy with non-players. This park seems to have the need to be mowed a little more often than it is.

Other Thoughts:

The Fun Factor was really good here. There were a few holes that had little to offer, but many of the other holes made up for them. I would certainly like to come back here and play this course again. It was a real treat and even though the layout was confusing the first time, it is still fun to play. The lake is gorgeous and vegetation is really cool. It is worth a little road trip.

BTW, I just got a note from the president of NWADGC. He said that they will be getting concrete tee pads VERY soon (maybe next week). That is so exciting!

Great Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 30, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

I Love this course it is fun to play and close to everything in Fayetteville. Great shade about half of the course. Most of the time their is now wind. Get a lot of players so you can find someone to show you around if you are new. Concrete are a new addition also new tee sign are comeing.

Cons:

Sometime it gets thick with brush and some holes stay kinda of muddy. Walkers and joggers get in the way sometimes.

Other Thoughts:

Needs more group info post on the board for activities. If you need a guide I am always up for a game. If you need more information jump on NWADGC.com there is a MAP of the holes.

Fun course. Nice mix of shots. Worth playing again.

Cons:

It was muddy on most of the holes that were right next to the lake. The tees sucked.

Other Thoughts:

I think that if this place doesn't get tees soon then there will be some crazy erosion problems around the existing "tee" areas.

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 20, 2007 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- The course layout uses the potential of the park in a good way to create some challenging holes.
- The baskets are in a rather good condition.
- Hole #7 is one of the best holes I've played. Slightly downhill, and reasonably narrow, with a long, accurate and straight drive you will have the birdie chance.
-Good variety of open and wooded holes.

Cons:

- Dirt tee pads.
- Could use some better signage, I had to ask some locals to find the first tee.
- Many walkers and bikers on the road through the park might hinder your play especially on hole #9
- Hole #12 (I think), by the lake was in my opinion far too narrow and far too close to the lake to even try it. I would think that alot of discs bounce off the trees and into the lake on that hole.

Scenic, but average. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 10, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great scenery. Plays on the north side of Lake Fayetteville. Half of the course is moderately wooded, while the other half is totally open. Course is very clean. Offers a good variety of shots, and a couple you need a pretty good pull to get to the basket for a bird. Discatcher baskets in pretty good shape.

Cons:

Dirt tees. course crosses over itself, and some of the holes are difficult to navigate, especially trying to figure out which basket to throw at in a few places.

Other Thoughts:

Nothing really special here as far as playability. A few holes make it a bit of a challenge, but no real epic holes or anything. It would get a better review with some concrete tees and some decent signs.

My home course... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 2, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Plays around a man made lake in a well used park. There is a decent mix of shots as well as varied hole lengths. Brand new concrete tees trimmed with mulch are beautiful. Challenging without being too much work. Water fountains (for you and your dog) and restrooms are located right next to the course. Multiple pins on a few holes provide a little change from play to play.

Cons:

There are teesigns, but they have little more than the hole number on them. Most are damaged or missing. The terrain is a bit overgrown and jungle-like in areas. This can make it tough to find your disc even if the shot was decent. The baskets are starting to show their age. They are still in decent shape, but are beginning to lean or are bent in areas. They used to be single chain, and somone added the inner chains to them. They do catch well though. Could use a few more trash cans, although there isn't a lot of trash on the course. A few trees could stand to be removed to make some of the holes less about luck and more about skill. The hole 12 long pin is really ridiculous. A lot of the little bushy trees near the short pin should be removed to make the long pin more playable. A few of the holes (8, 9 15, 16,) are wide open with just one tree between the tee and pin.

Other Thoughts:

This is a decent course overall, but with a little work it could stand out more. A lot of the cedar trees on the course have been trimmed up, and the city has been mowing more of the course more often. Still needs a lot of trimming, but the way things are improving here it seems it will get done. This course does see a lot of traffic. It seems there is always someone out there. It is a shame that this is the ONLY course in Fayetteville.

Worth playing for almost anyone 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 21, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice variety of open and wooded holes. Even the open holes typically have pin positions that make good use of obstacles (trees, mostly) so that there's rarely an open shot from the tee all the way to the hole.

Thoughtful positioning of pins means that even though this is a relatively short course in overall distance, it still offers some challenge even for experienced players with big arms.

Open holes typically have closely mown fairways through taller grass "rough" on either side -- visually appealing, helps with navigation, and offers an incentive to play the hole the way it was designed.

Very appealing setting with nearby hills, the lake, plenty of trees, etc.

Convenient location right off US Hwy 71 between Fayetteville and Springdale, and easy to reach from I-540.

Cons:

Tee areas are all of the things other reviewers have said -- there's was a fair amount of recent wood mulch on most of them when I played, which helped visually define them a bit, but didn't offer a much better surface than the mud/dirt/roots.

Likewise, some of the areas near the lake, and some of the lower-lying grassy areas, could be swampy or even unplayable after wet weather. Not as bad as Lake Bella Vista, but pretty wet.

Navigation can be a little dicey, especially since the online map is wrong. Missed Hole 5 completely on my initial pass and had to go back and pick it up after 16. (Tip: even though you can see the tee pad for 6 when you finish 4, and it doesn't look like there could be another hole in the opposite direction from it, on the lake side of #4, there is -- go the "wrong" way and you'll find it. Of course, then you'll have to walk right back past the 4th basket again on your way to #6).

Walkers/cyclists could introduce some delays or put themselves in danger during busy times. Wasn't too much of a problem during my round -- had to wait for a family walking along the paved path near the basket for 15 to clear before my tee shot, and there was a couple that had spread a blanket and themselves out in the middle of the 16th fairway, but otherwise no problems. The lovebirds got the message when they saw me digging my disc out of my bag on the tee pad and moved soon enough.

Lots of stinging insects out and about on a warm late spring afternoon, as well as snakes -- saw a 4-5 ft black water snake of some kind slither into the brush around the base of a tree near the basket for 11, and almost slither out again -- he stopped with just his head and 8-10" of body sticking out, facing the hole, waiting for me to hole out before he moved on back to the lake.

Oh, and I'm not sure what's up with the extremely low height of the 15th basket. I guess the designer figured it was so short and had only a small thicket with two bigger trees coming out of it to protect the basket that something else was needed to throw you off.

Other Thoughts:

The map posted in the Files/Links section here is wrong. Apparently there's been some reconfiguration of the holes. This is exacerbated by the fact that the main reconfigured hole is the first one; if there hadn't been locals headed out to play I'd probably have had to look longer to figure out where to start.

Essentially, Hole 1 has been flopped around backwards and turned into Hole 18. Hole 2 is now Hole 1, and the rest of the course plays pretty much as indicated on the map, with each hole number one lower than shown on the map. Hole 18 plays from what apparently used to be the pin area for Hole 1 to what used to be the tee area. The new layout actually makes more sense, as you now begin and end the course close to the parking area, instead of the old 18 finishing up several hundred feet away.

Overall, I really enjoyed my first round here, and I definitely plan to play here again when I'm in the area for work or visiting family.

Nice Playing Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 10, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great course in a well kept park on the north bank of Lake Fayetteville. Good variation of shots, open, tunnel, heavily wooded, short, long, water could be a problem on windy days but shouldnt be too big of a deal. Lots of pedestrians walking and biking around, keep an eye out and you will have no problems. Easy to get around with next tee signs located after every basket pointing the way. Noticed a few trash bins along the way looks like it helps with keeping the park tidy. The lake looks clean enough to get in if you throw one in it.

Cons:

Can get very muddy when it is wet because of the dirt tee pads. Course map isnt exactly what the course is like but I used it and got around fine good for refrence I guess.

Other Thoughts:

Concrete tee pads would do this place wonders for sure. Ill go back in the summer time and maybe change my review when everything is green.

Rough around the edges, but a fun course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 16, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

Tons of variety, open fairways to extremely tight woods. The overall distance is relatively low, but many there aren't a lot of birdie candidates here due to clever use of obstacles. Shooting pro par is actually a challenge despite the short length. The designer did a nice job of utilizing what little elevation exists on the land; holes 7, 10, and 16 (i think) all let you rip off nice, open downhill shots. Hole 2 is a championship hole, over 300 ft tunnel shot bordering the lake (literally 10 ft from the fairway).

Cons:

Poor to very poor tee boxes & inconsistent signs. Lack of alternate baskets (guess I am used to KC courses).

Other Thoughts:

Cement tee boxes and accurate signs would go a long way. The park is heavily used, so you have to watch for walkers/bikers and other players.

Could be great 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 25, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

I really like the layout. It has a little something for everyone. It varies from short, tight, finesse holes to wide open, air-it-out, bomb-away holes. It's situated right next to Lake Fayetteville which is centrally located between Fayetteville and Springdale.

This course actually has fairways. The parks department mows the golf course far more frequently than the rest of the park, so there's actually an advantage to being in the fairway.

Cons:

It may have heavy pedestrian traffic on a couple of holes, so you may have to wait a little while before teeing off on those.

There's tons of poison ivy out there. If you're allergic, stay away.

There are no maps or signs on most of the holes. Navigation can be a nightmare if you've never played here before.

The tee boxes are come in three styles: dirt, mud, and tree roots. None of which is that great to play on.

Other Thoughts:

New tee boxes and signs would help this one a ton, but it's still the best in NW Arkansas.

Not that great of a course - prefered the other one! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 9, 2005 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good open, flat course. Great for beginner action. A few tricky holes

Cons:

Poorly maintained - many tee boxes are dirt holes, some as much as a foot depressed due to overuse and under attention from the city. Poor to non-existent signs on the way in (if you don't know where you are going you'll have to look around to find it (right by the lake in the woods)

Other Thoughts:

I remember having a fairly good time at this, having a flat in the parking lot, and going to play at the Jones Center disc golf course while I waited for Wal Mart to fix my tire. Right near Lewis & Clark, which stock Innova kit and all other kinds of outdoors gear.

We played the course Gulley Park and it was much more fun and entertaining, but I can understand why it had to be closed (too many hits on bystanders - went right through a heavily trafficked urban park). My buddy almost acing (hit the pin) 18 at Gulley, then four putting is still brought up on occasion when we all get together.
