Course updates very nice! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 14, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Newly placed teepad! The course is always cleaned and fairways kept in order. Next tee signs are great, but hard to get lost here anyway.

Cons:

Various hole maps missing. Some use wooden steaks with marker and some are laminated nailed to trees...

Other Thoughts:

Get drinks before heading in, nothing too close around and only one bathroom.

Memories of times past... 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 23, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Aesthetic-- Course plays through and around a retired airport in a very rural michigan town. Area is DG exclusive. Love the disc golf exclusivity!!

Challenge and Variety-- This is a very difficult course. The tunnels are tight , the woods are thick and the drives are long. It's crazy the variety here, short holes that are true par 3's and 600ft'ers that deserve the par 4/5 that they are rated at.

Dual Signature holes-- #9 and #20 down the run way are awesome signature holes. Both 500'+, #20 ends over a pond.

Baskets-- new chain stars with bright orange bands help to increase visibility.

Maps-- available at the course sign along with a donation box... Give these guys money, they need teepads.

Cons:

Teepads/Teesigns-- the lack of both is a little depressing. There are stakes at each hole with a basic sketch of the hole and the distance but an actual sign with a picture and all would be far more better. the teepads are marked with rocks and the stakes. the pads are dirt and full of water currently. (well, a lot of them)

Water retention-- this course was absolutely flooded when I was there. standing water throughout. the woods were less covered in water but still had pockets.

Other Thoughts:

thoroughly impressed with the use of the available land. the variety and challenge here is pretty out of sight. with teepads and signs, this course could easily be a 5.

Old Airport Disc Golf Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 1, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

2015 has seen the city added a porty potty and it will stay through the season as long as it's not vandalized and donations continue in. The support will bring tee pads soon. This course originally was started in 1989 as an 18 hole target course. The summer of 2013 brought an entirely new 20 hole layout with new Chainstar baskets. Nine holes of the original 18 holes all saw some changes and now the remaining 11 holes are a completely new layout for the 20 hole Old Airport disc golf course located 3 blocks north of US-23, taking Court Street to Industrial Parkway, then left to the end of the turn around. At the end of Industrial Parkaway then follow the dirt road to the right, just on top of the little hill for hole 1. The rest of the course is temporarily marked, watch for stakes and just follow the cut trails. After you play hole 9, you'll be in the woods until leaving hole 19 that brings you back out into the Old Airport runway to shoot the 549' hole 20. as of July, 16 2013 the wooded holes may be for the adventurous, improvements are happening daily with wood chip trails, permanent tee markers, the newest map and more coming by fall. This course is way fun and extremely challenging for all shots.

Cons:

As of June2015, the course still needs cement tee pads but now each tee pad does have a descriptive drawing of the fairway and basket placement, including length. Watch for mowed trails and fairways that also have directional signs, all on natural post harvested at Old Airport DGC. The course is close enough to town that any needs can be met with a 5 minute drive. There is a campgroung in town, a walk from the course...

Other Thoughts:

Parking has been improved, a donation drop box added, some tables and benches, many trails identified with wood chips and general improvements continue weekly. Make this a stop if in the middle portion of the east side of Michigan.
