Home To The Tiny Tee Pads! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 23, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

The DGC at O'Leary Junior High starts out near the running track behind the school. It then plays over to the farthest corner of the field (Near the cemetery), then over the small backstop (which I believe is for the discus throw) before playing back across the wide expanse of green lawn near the parking lot, then across the entrance street and finally finishes on the main lawn in front of the school.
The course has Innova baskets with the yellow band. There are no signs so you're kind of navigating by braille. The tee pads are tiny concrete slabs about 12' x 24'. They are a little hard to find as they are gradually being gobbled up by the encroaching grass around them. I found most of them without much difficulty but gave up looking for the # 5 and # 8 pads. It was just too damn hot to search too long.
The course design isn't really appropriate for junior high students. It's too long for them to really enjoy.
I thought # 6 was kind of an interesting hole teeing off right beside the building to a blind basket. Young players need to learn to throw anhyzer shot or forehand flick on this hole.

Cons:

# 1 basket is leaning and # 8 basket is about 18' too low.
No signs.
Distances are too long for junior high students.
Experienced players will be bored with the long, mostly open layout. There are a few trees and they are used effectively, when possible. The problem is there just aren't enough much challenge and variety.

Other Thoughts:

The answer that begs for an answer is, Just who is this course designed for? I agree with previous reviewers who have stated, intermediate players and above have much better options around the area in the CSI course and Rock Canyon and junior high players will find themselves frustrated with the distances here. Had I been the designer, I would have shortened the course considerably, making it more attune to beginner/junior high players.

I must compliment the staff and students of O'Leary Junior High. I was quite impressed with the over-all cleanliness of this campus. Most junior highs are trashed and graffiti covered. This one was neat as a pin.
