Challengin course with lots of elevation change 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 30, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course flow from hole to hole is easy to navigate
Blacks are very challenging, even for experienced players
The holes that are tight corridors of trees have great play lines but are very challenging

Cons:

The amount of trash in/around this course is ALOT
The underbrush is thick and there is great deal of ivey on just about every hole. Do not play with green discs, you'll lose 'em.
Some of the tee pads are trashed and need to be replaced.

Other Thoughts:

Player etiquette - If you're a party of 6 having a casual day at the park, do not just drop onto a hole and start playing. This happened 3 times to me while playing at Perkerson this weekend. This led to me being unable to finish the round.
If a smaller party is on your heels, let them play through.
Also, do not use your one-wheel to navigate the course. Had one guy doing this and he was incredibly slow and had 0 disregard for the parties behind him.

trying to be upbeat 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 19, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

So much potential, some great holes, good location

Cons:

layout was confusing, barely anything marked, save some money from the goats and put up signs please.

Other Thoughts:

It's in the building stages and they are doing it right, but I just hated playing it at this stage of the game. We got lost even playing with a friend who has played it a few times before. Going to be one of the best around very soon though.

Good But Not Great 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 25, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

*Nice layout for many of the holes along the creek. Challenging but fair
*Excellent use of elevation changes
*Very good baskets
*Good mix of left and right curves
*Good variety of holes (until you reach the woods)
*Several holes are really well designed. 2 and 3 use the creek nicely. 16 is brilliant, the basket is perfectly placed among the trees.

Cons:

*Tees are not yet finished. They'll be nice when done. They'll be concrete with stone walls around them on the elevation. The day we were there workers were doing the stone work. They had one the wood forms for the concrete for the tees backwards (15 or 16 I think), with the narrow part pointing away from the basket. We pointed this out to them, hopefully they fix it before pouring concrete.
*It is very hard to find your way around the park. A few simple signs directing you to the next hole, or even helping you find the basket from the tee, would help.
*Some of the holes in the woods have very little realistic "fair"way. I'm OK with this as long as the course is balanced with woods/open shots, and if there is variety in the wooded holes. Perkerson is right on my personal edge of having too many tightly wooded holes. Also, some of the wooded holes seemed too much alike. This is totally subjective, and I'd gladly play again, but it will never be a favorite because of this.
*The tee for the fifth hole was right behind a wall of trees/brush. That's fine for a "pro" tee, but there should be an option for beginners that allows for an open throw. Maybe there is one that we couldn't find (see note about finding your way around the course).
*18 is 850 feet uphill with a creek on the left and a narrow pathway through trees to reach the basket. Nice idea, but it seemed difficult for the sake of being difficult, nothing more. Why not divide that section of the course into two holes and eliminate one of the repetitive pinball holes in the woods?
*Add some benches or seating to give people a chance to rest.

Other Thoughts:

I really enjoyed myself at Perkerson Park. Many of my "cons" are based on the fact that the course is still under construction. Given some time, my rating could go up. I'm rating it as it was when I played it, not on its potential.

Speaking of potential...Courses mature as they are used, as things like navigation signs, benches, etc. are added. This course should mature into a close to great one.

FEB 2014 UPDATE: I received a personal message from an ATL DGer that may of my "cons" have been addressed (I noted the park was under construction when I played it in the summer of 2013.) I would love to play this course again to see how the improvements have been incorporated into what I described last summer as "close to a great" course. I'm not sure if I'll make it back to ATL (from Michigan) any time soon, but I would highly recommend that if you're in the area, you should check out this course.

Get Ready for a Hike. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 14, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

I think its awesome that Atlanta finally has a DG course. The layout of most holes are really cool. They use the elevation changes up and down on a lot of the holes to add to the difficulty. Hole #1 is really cool. You tee off of a small cliff over the creek then back up a hill to the basket. There is a large creek that runs through the middle of the course. It adds to the scenery and provides a challenge for the many holes that run alongside it. There are some really tight wooded holes as well as some open holes to air it out on. Most of the tee pads are carpeted and leveled out nicely. You can tell there has been a lot of work done even though there is still much work needed. Everyone we talked to was very friendly and seemed to enjoy the park. All 18 holes were nicely designed and required a variety of shots. Temporary signs were enough for us to navigate the course without a map. When this place is done it will be awesome.

Cons:

Most of the Cons on this course have to do with the fact that its new and still a work in progress. This place is definitely rough around the edges. Some of the holes still need clearing and the trails from hole to hole definitely need some work. The course seemed very long. A lot of the time you have to walk way out of the way to get to your disc from the tee pads. I think this problem will be fixed as more work is done on the course. There are only temp signage but we were able to figure it out. The wooded holes are filled with trash and broken glass but the open areas of the park are relatively clean. Be sure to bring bug spray. I got ate up by mosquitoes. One of the biggest problems I had was that several chains were missing from the baskets.

Other Thoughts:

This place has major potential. Cant wait to play it when its done. Until then I will continue to enjoy it for what it is now. I recommend this place to everybody and all kinds of players. I going to try and make it to one of there course work days and encourage you to do the same.
