quiet city park turns into a disc golf mecca? not quite but fun place for a quick round 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 29, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Well, first off this is now an 18 hole course. So nine extra baskets are a nice thing to have added to any nine holer. The course overall has a good flow to it.

Very good signage at each tee and garbage cans for those that can't understand the concept of carry in/carry out.

Most of the holes will give you a shot at an ace but there are enough longer holes so you can let go with some power behind the shot. Great course to practice your midrange or chase an elusive ace.

The club that installed the other nine really caught some flack from the NIMB neighbors. But the mayor stood behind the project and it's become a great course for a recreational round or if you just want to get in 18 without taking up too much time.

A good balance of left to right, right to left and straight shots. Some fairly wide open holes and some nice technical woods holes.

The addition of the nine holes has definitely helped bring new people to not just visit the course but likely fostered the growth of DG in that of WNY. (That's a good thing!)

Cons:

Perhaps the worst set of tee pads known to man? Not that bad, but from I was told the local boy scouts (when the boy scouts were still in existence) came up with the idea of creating elevated tee boxes that were simply boxed wood filled with dirt. They are uneven, they are rutted, they are just waiting to break someone's ankle. If you're serious about DG and you want to have a good round, these tee pads are so bad you simply can't get into a good rhythm when you're teeing off.
When they installed the nine new Discatchers it would have been nice if they could have added nine new additional fresh and minty baskets as well. Since the course was never played on that much the originals aren't that bad, it just would have been nice if they could have had those ones replaced.

In clearing a few the holes that go through a wooded portion of the park, there are some stumps just about ankle high that again - are just waiting to break an ankle or two.

The parking situation is kinda funky. It sort of feels like you're parking in front of frat house as there is kind of a parking lot but it hold maybe 10 cars at most. (On the flip side - there is parking just to the right of the course so it's very minor, minor con.)

Other Thoughts:

Adding the additional nine holes has turned this quiet city park into a nice disc golf course locale.

This is definitely a beginner friendly course, so some of your better players may want to skip this for something more challenging.

If the break-an-ankle tee pads are ever properly addressed this will be a solid course. They're so bad I have to ding the course a full point. If fixed I will update accordingly. Until then, have fun if you plan to play it, just be careful when teeing off - your ankles will thank you for it.

Is what it is 2+ years

Pros:

Quick spin and easy bag.
Brings a course to a local neighborhood park that doesn't interfere with the other amenities even though the proximity is close.
Baskets still catch and are not falling over. Not the best, but they definitely work.
Technically there are 18 posted tee signs for the "tee pads" that go to 9 baskets.
No rough which is ideal for beginners.
Plenty of actual routes that have to be played for plenty of ace runs.

Cons:

The tee pads are just ruts in the ground.
The signs are not super easy to see as they are just little 3 inch blocks of wood with a number on them nailed to a tree. (The front nine and back nine are at least different colors)
Flat course and kind of bunched up. Certainly it would be annoying to try and play the "18 hole layout" when there were other people playing here.

Other Thoughts:

This course is a perfectly adequate local course that I'm sure if I lived in the neighborhood, I would walk to often. If you are looking to increase your course count and are in Buffalo then it's a real quick bag and easy on and off. Nothing special here though, so don't get your hopes up.
