Decent Recreation Course is Mostly Tight And Technical But Improvements Are On The Way! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 22, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

A simple sign pointing you to the start would be welcomed here. The course starts at the end of the Little basketball courts. The tee pads are a work in progress, some are finished concrete, others have the forms built and some are still natural. The signs are just basic little fiberglass ones with a number. There is a handwritten sign at the start asking someone to quit cutting/breaking down the vegetation. Be on the lookout for a disc golfer looking frustrated and carrying clippers and a machete.

The brand new # 1 basket has been totally smooched by a fallen tree. The baskets are new Mach V models. Such a tragedy to see a basket die so young.

The course is recreational in length (lots of 100-200' holes) but plays a little more challenging due to it's technical nature. There are lots of tight lines here and being able to place your drive accurately is the key to your success here. A couple of holes require a little S curve.

A few holes stood out for me. The water carry hole, # 11, is about a 260' hole with maybe a 220' carry over the pond needed. You're teeing off from a slightly higher tee so it looks make-able but with irregular shape of the pond, I think more than a few rec golfers are going to end with drown discs. Also, the baskets here is raised on a stump. Definitely, the signature hole here at RCRC.

The next hole, # 12' is kinda interesting, too. It's a very short carry over the corner of the pond, probably not much more than a 100', but there is one branch right in the way which could and will knock your disc down and into the pond. Maybe the phantom pruner should have at this branch? This role probably only rates a 2 on the pucker factor for most players but beginners with one disc might give it a an 8.

I liked # 13's basket placement with it's 7-8 guardian trees. Kind of a pretty hole.

# 15 was the most challenging for me as a player who's been having issues hitting a line. It plays about 300' down a long narrow fairway maybe 25' wide. If you get off this fairway at any point, you are probably saying hello to Mr. Bogey and possibly, Mr. Double Bogey.

Cons:

Signage is lacking.

Tee pads are a work in progress.

Recreational lengths. No place to really let loose.

Basket # 1 is mortally wounded by big tree.

Some random dude is cutting down the forest.

Tight, technical nature will frustrate some.

Lots of stacks of cut up woods. Could these be donated to someone who has a fireplace or something. Or has the state of California banned burning any wood now? Except of course, their forests.

Other Thoughts:

What does RCRC mean anyway? This course is an enjoyable little throw in the pretty woods. Better players will enjoy shooting low scores here. Average rec players who struggle with accuracy will shoot well over par and the phantom vegetation killer will probably continue his vengeful quest to thin said vegetation so that he too, can shoot under par.
