Challenging Wooded Course, Fun to Play 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 26, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Challenging course for intermediate to expert players
-Elevation changes and varying basket locations keep it interesting
-Hole layout at each tee box
-Bright minidiscs on trees to mark path to next hole
-Concrete tee-pads
-Benches spread through-out
-Short & Long Tees for varying abilities
-Relatively short hole lengths
-18 holes + small-area practice basket

Cons:

-Heavily wooded course can make it difficult
-High number of hole layouts require anhyzer throws or forehands (could be a pro)
-Slippery areas when wet, roots and clay
-Narrow fairways due to trees leaves little room for error.

Other Thoughts:

Busy when I went (around 1pm on a Sunday). Easy to find from road and good signage once inside Reedy Creek Park. Parking immediately adjacent to hole #1 with practice basket (maybe 20ft radius circle).

No real open holes to let your distance drivers fly.

Definitely a course to go-to to work on elevating your game. I could play here a hundred times and still not be able to miss a tree...

Great wooded course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 2, 2019 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-clear, lanes for all tee pads to all baskets
-elevation changes to challenge players
-large concrete tee-pads
-benches at every short tee-pad
-Several layouts for different difficulties
-All tee-pads well signed
-Next hole locations clear

Cons:

-A lot of clay
-corrosion on some holes
-A lot of trip hazards when off tee-pads
-Very slippery even a few days after rain. Due to clay, elevation changes, and A lot of nuts and leaves on the ground.

Other Thoughts:

Very well designed, wooded course with a lot of elevation changes.
Was skeptical of how clear the lanes were from pictures but in person they were the perfect size even from most long tees even though the long tee position does require some narrow gap hits.
I was playing solo and read the course is very busy due to being so close to a college campus but everyone I came upon were very courteous and let me play through.
Great course to hone in all of your shots!

Solid course, fun to play 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 19, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great, large, concrete tee pads-two on all holes. Great tee signs-showing multiple pin positions. Very good, easy to see baskets.
I'm sure a lot of this is due to the preparations for the very successful 2018 AM Worlds, this was one of several courses used every day.
Good variety of holes, left, right, up and down, all were wooded, no open holes, but the fairways were fair.
Long tees generally provide a different angle on the hole.
#5-Uphill, retaining wall built for the green, #14-downhill, retaining wall built behind the green.
DG only section of this large park. You do see other park users at times, but no real interference.
Appears to be the best course on this side of Charlotte, plus its in a good neighborhood.

Cons:

Very few, there is some erosion on #2, maybe #3 and #14 that could lead to work on those holes, hopefully they will remain open.

Other Thoughts:

Since this is one of the oldest courses in Charlotte, I expected a short, well worn course, similar to Kentwood in Raleigh or Cornwallis in Durham. It definitely is not that, all of the equipment was in good shape, the holes were of varying lengths and elevation and they rarely were close to each other. More like a modern well planned course.
My favorite holes:
#5 plays up a steep slope to a tiered green.
#7 blind tee shot over a hill, then downhill to the basket. Luckily the basket was in front of a creek, behind it would have been a real challenge.
#10 starts out tight, then uphill to a wooded green.
#13 long Par 4 turning right, basket was in the long position when I was there.
#15 - for the Worlds, this played as a long, uphill, Par 4. Gradual uphill on the drive, then it gets steep up to the ridge where the basket is.
#17 fun downhill hyzer where you can just launch it and watch it go around the corner.
#18 was a solid finisher, mostly downhill with scattered trees in the fairway.
But probably my favorite was #9. Why was a short, flat, 198' hole my favorite among all these great holes? Because I had to think so long about how to play it. From the short tee, it turns kind of sharp to the left about 50-75' out, then to the right and straight back to the basket. I finally decided to throw a RHFH annie with an OS disc. Threw it pretty well as it made both turns and was in decent shape by the green. I'm not sure if I've ever made that throw before, but I will know how to make it the next time I need it.
Even with the elevation changes and somewhat rough terrain, its not a real grueling course and should be enjoyed by all types of players.

The Creek 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 29, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course has a solid mix of short, moderate, and a few longer holes as well. It is a technical course but its not super tight. Many of the holes are reachable and there are many birdie opportunities if you can capitalize.
Good mix of L and R playing holes here.
The lines that need to be hit are challenging and will test your shot making abilities as well as your mental game.
The elevation here is nice and factors in on several holes.
Hole 14 is a super sweet hole. Its not very long and you for sure don't want to overthrow the basket. If you do you will have to throw back uphill about the same length as the hole itself! Its a nice risk reward hole. A birdie is attainable but hitting the band of the basket and rolling away down the hill might make you think twice. Good risk reward hole. Hole 13 is a longer hole that has a moderate sized fairway that if you can stay in will increase your odds at a par.

Cons:

The terrain can be rough in spots with roots here and there and the soil has a rocky consistency to it. It might be difficult to navigate during a solid rain due to poor footing. Also pulling a cart in these conditions might be extra work for the golfer. Not impossible but not super easy either.
The transition from hole 7's basket to 8's tee was rather long and slows the flow of the round down.
As other reviewers have mentioned there are many holes that make you either throw a FH shot(if you are right handed) or an anny shot(if you are right handed). I didn't find it unfair but there were more of these types of shots present than on other area courses.

Other Thoughts:

I was lucky enough to get to play this course for 2018 AM Worlds. I would say an upgrade to the baskets took place because this course has nice DD Veteran baskets with white bands that was easy to see.
I enjoyed this course and it was a nice test of both physical and mental skill. The rough wasn't super punishing but did make you want to stay in the fairway to avoid those extra strokes. The elevation spiced things up a bit and made the risk of roll-a-way putts a thing to contend with.
I would recommend this course to anyone that is in the Charlotte area who enjoys elevated, wooded courses. Some will grumble that there aren't any wide open holes here but I won't. I play wide open courses all the time and I enjoy the chance of pace that a nice wooded, elevated course like Reedy Creek offers. I would play this course again if I'm ever in the area.

Excellent Technical Golf 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 24, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

18 hole course located in a disc golf exclusive area of a good sized town park. Practice basket and bathrooms on site. Good sized multiple tee pads, benches and working baskets at all holes. Nice signs and easy to navigate, as the course receives heavy foot traffic. The course starts out with some REALLY good holes, including hole 1 (a split fairway in which one can pick their poison), hole 2 (a nice shot from an elevated pad, down over a creek then up hill to the basket), hole 3 (straight shot to a basket precariously perched on a ledge with a major slope to the left) hole 7 (righty turn over shot thru a wide opening downhill to a basket near the creek) and finishes strong with an excellent shot on 18 requiring a righty forehand off an elevated tee. Reasonable distances and excellent use of elevation.

Cons:

For my tastes, way too many righty forehands required off the tee (more on this later). Holes 11 and 13 are essentially the same shot, just different distances from the tee. Erosion an issue here, as it is with many of the Charlotte area courses which receive heavy use. As others have mentioned, baskets sometimes tough to spot off the tee.

Other Thoughts:

I truly loved Reedy Creek. One of the courses used for multiple divisions at the recent Am. Worlds, it offers a fair, challenging technical layout with plenty of trees, slopes and obstacles to get you into trouble, yet plenty of opportunities to get birdies and score well. As an over 40 player who loves woods golf, I could see myself playing this course over and over if I lived in the area, as it is challenging without being too overwhelming.

My biggest criticism of this course as with several other area courses I played during my stay in Charlotte- is that there is a disproportionate number of holes where the preferred shot off the tee is a righty forehand or something you have to turn over. Why?? As one of the greater percentage of golfers who prefer a backhand off the tee, I was a bit taken aback. I understand the concepts of course balance, fairness to lefties and the importance of learning to throw all shots. The occasional forehand off the tee is more than appropriate. But I'd say close to half the holes here require forehand tee shots- far too many.

This observation aside, I rated Reedy Creek fairly which reflects the strengths of the course itself and my personal enjoyment in playing it. Definitely part of the loop of courses one should play if in the area.

Good Course for Forehands 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 31, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Well Kept Up - the course has a bit of undergrowth but has been cleaned out so it isn't hard to find discs.

Nice variation in holes - distances/ heights/ shots are varied enough to keep the course interesting.

Cons:

Holds Water - the course has several valleys in it that hold water after rain and have damp soil even when it hasn't rained in awhile. It can mess with footing if a disc land's in it.

Great course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 19, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This is easily my favorite course in the area. I try to go to reedy creek every weekend which i do because its only 25 minutes away! it is a great course because even though it looks heavily wooded its not as tight placement for the fronts the back is a good challenge but the fronts are alot better to most people! Nice people there they talk to you you can talk to them and i have played a round with some of the people i just met there that are really nice and friendly.

Cons:

There is graffiti on the trashcans and benches. Some places still have cut posts from where the basket will never be again. Leaves are everywhere so you do have to take that for account.

Other Thoughts:

I love the park from the sites down the friendly people there. They even have kids weekly there i love it and playing there

Tons o fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 18, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course plays through hilly woods with moderate underbrush. Most holes have some kind of elevation change, and the hills are used extremely well to create fun and challenge off the tee and around the pin. Streams are also in play here, and make for some nice obstacles, especially with a couple risky greens that have water in play around the basket. There are two sets of concrete tees that often offer very different looks and add some variety, and two to three pin positions per hole that would really mix things up.

The course is pretty short overall, but it never gets repetitive. You'll need a wide variety of shots to score well here, birdies are definitely available but only if you can accurately shape lots of different lines through the woods. The underbrush is pretty beaten down, but there's still enough to punish errant shots on most holes. The signage is nice, and shows hole distance and layout from either tee.

Cons:

The course obviously gets a ton of traffic, so it's very beat down with compacted ground and lots of erosion issues. There is quite a bit of trash scattered around in the woods. Because the course is older, it does play pretty short and doesn't offer much chance to open up and throw a real drive. It would be nice to have the pin positions marked at the tees, there are lots of blind shots and you have to walk up to see where the basket is.

Other Thoughts:

This is a fantastic par three course that is a nice change of pace from some of the tougher courses in the area. Beginners can have a good time here, it will challenge new players to stay on the fairway, but the distances are reasonable. More experienced players won't find it all that tough, it's mostly a putter and mid course, but it's a solid design that makes great use of the terrain to keep things interesting throughout the round.

Grandfather of Charlotte 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 3, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Fun! A truly fun course that emphasizes finesse and creativity over power. One of the funner short courses I have played with plenty of broken in woods, elevation and lines to discover. My kind of disc golf as it is mostly wooded but with enough lanes to make for an interesting round everytime you play it. I really enjoy old school courses that can stand the test of time and this one does that well. Short layout and the more challenging Stout layout make for some remarkable holes. By far the funnest course in Charlotte due to addictive earned birdie looks and constant undulating woodsy terrain. Wooded enough to challenge your shotmaking but short enough to allow for exciting runs at the green. I love it when an old technical course stands the test of time and this one does and then some. I would imagine some old timers just carving up younger more reckless guns on this course and thats a good thing. Reedy never let me down and either offered an ace run or a surprise basket position or creative fairway that kept me cerebrally active. Even without the disc golf its a fun hike up and down in those woods. Overall just what the doctor ordered after a butt whooping at the Championship Courses in Charlotte. This and Nevin are the 2 I wanna play again in QUeen City. Nevin cause I want revenge after getting massacred and Reedy simply because it was so much damn fun.

Cons:

It will not offer many longer holes for those insiting on par 60+ rounds. No true open field shots for grip and rip it folks. It's old and perhaps too popular as erosion potential and broken in do not begin to explain the circumstances here. I can't really smack the course much I have little negative to say.

Other Thoughts:

Definetely worth a play if your in town to test your mettle against the tougher Charlotte Courses. As an out of towner I usually like to play the course that started it all in each region. From my experience these tend to be great courses and explain the popularity of the sport in such locales. Schenley in Pitt, South Mtn in Lehigh Valley PA, BlueMont in DC, etc. Sedgley in Philly, add Reedy to the list of perfect par 3 Hall of fame courses. I played it as my final course in NC and was glad I saved it for last...restored the smile to my face and reminded me why I love disc golf!

If you skip it you'll be missing out 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 20, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

- The fact that this course was built in the late 80's and can still be played competitively with today's discs is an achievement. Most holes are 200-300ft, but are well designed to suit a variety of skill levels.

- Restrooms, benches, lots of garbage cans, concrete tee pads and a practice basket

- Of all charlotte courses this was the only one with maps at the kiosk

- Unique engraved tee signs.

- Several baskets on elevated ground and several elevated tees, very nice use of the available land and slight elevation changes.

- Some good risk vs. reward shots. If you overshoot on 14 or hang left on 15 you are screwed.

- Excellent course to take beginners with some experience. Best described as a solid Rec/Intermediate level course

- One of the few courses in the area that does not use discatchers, course uses DGA Mach 3.

- Favorite holes were probably 10 and 11 due to the creative use of elevation.

Cons:

-There were some very minor issues with navigation and flow. For example, Basket 8 said 16 and 14 was labeled 17, also 18 ends in the middle of the woods with no signs on how to get back to your car.

- Very few obvious flaws, No safety issues noted, It just lacks the wow factor of Hornet's Nest and Renny.

Other Thoughts:

- While it does not have the reputation of some of the other Charlotte courses, this is one of the first 3 I would take anyone too when they visit the Charlotte area.

- This course was not the most challenging in Charlotte, but it was the most fun due to solid design and little frustration, play this after Nevin so you can feel human again :).

- On most holes if there was 1 tee there were 2 baskets, if there were 2 tees there may only be one basket.
I would like all multiple tees or multiple baskets, but this is not a con since it does provide a change from the shorts.

Edit: I really wanted to rate this as high as Renny, but just because I had more fun here does not make it a better course...but it is pretty darn close

Tried & True 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 2, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Carved out of the woods, each shot has its own specific fairway and while tight the layout is very fair. You don't get the chance to rip long drives much here, the course requires some finess & it's laid out nicely for a variety of shots.

Cons:

It does get a lot of traffic. I learned on this course 20 years ago and it remains a favorite to this day although it's much more crowded these days. But that's what we want, right? We want folks to play and Reedy is short enough that it will bring in a lot of ams but don't let that fool you into thinking it won't be challenging for anyone at any level. Thanks
to multiple tee & basket combinations the course can be played differently. Reedy is always a blast.

Other Thoughts:

I saw that Reedy had less than a 4 star rating and was afraid folks traveling into Charlotte might skip it. If you do you'll be sorry. For sheer fun Reedy Creek rates right up at the top of Charlotte courses.

Great well rounded course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 14, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This being the oldest and most played course in the Charlotte/metro area, it's easy to see why this course is so high on the to-play-list. The course design/layout is incredible! There is not one hole that resembles another one. The course will test you on all of your shot skills (RHBH, side arm, thumber, tomahawk, and rollers).

This is a great course for beginners and experts alike. Its not TOO tight to frustrate the rookies, and its tight enough to keep the experts entertained.

All holes have multiple pin locations and multiple tee pads. there is a sign on hole #1 stating wether the course is layed out in long or short pin locations. And most of the signs show locations of pin A or B on the Original tee pad.

The tee pads themselves are in great condition. The Short pads don't make you feel like you are playing from the ladies tees if you want to have a nice easy round. But the Stout pads will give you more of a challenge on each hole. The Stout pads are very well designed as to add difficulty to the holes, but not so much to where its frustrating.

The course is well secluded among the rest of the park. you will have some people walking along the paths on holes #5 and #10, and the occasional cricket match on the weekends.

Cons:

As everyone has said in their reviews.. CROWDED!!! to a new comer this can be a plus as to observe new techniques to start practicing. But waiting for your turn to drive is a high probability.

Some of the fairways are run down and can get a little dicey when it has rained.

There are a few of the chains that aren't marked with a hole number and doesn't have the yellow ring around the top, making it hard to see. But after playing the course for the first time on both short and long possitions, its easy to navigate. can be a bit confusing to find your way around at first.

Other Thoughts:

This course is a great course to play for birdies. A lot of opportunities to make some great drives to put it close to the chains. I reccomend to bring a good attitude that wont be dimminished by hitting trees. And alot some extra time for waiting for fellow disc golfers.

Pros:

- Two sets of tees offer opportunities for varied skill levels.
- It is pretty secluded once you get on the course, and you almost feel like you're in the middle of nowhere, and it feels good.
- Lots of variation in elevation makes for some exciting shots. There's also a good balance of left bending, right bending, and straight holes.
- The hole lengths are good. They're short enough to reward a good/great shot with birdie, but the fairways are tight enough to punish bad shots. (Good risk reward).
- Concrete tees are always a plus in my book. These tees are a good size, too.
- There's a few open shots mixed in here and there to give you a break from all those carefully navigated wooded fairways.
- The tee signs were there on every hole, and very informative. They inlcuding lengths for all combinations of tee/basket positions.

Cons:

- I played in the fall so the leaves were kind of a problem, but not a big deal or anything.
-

Other Thoughts:

Overall I had a really fun time at this course. I walked away feeling good, even though I didn't shoot that well.
What I liked most about the course, though, was that you just felt like you were out in the middle of some uncharted woods.

Cons:

Occasionally backed up on the weekends... Near UNCC which draws lots of visitors on days you may want to be by yourself IF your that kind of player.

Other Thoughts:

This was my very first course playing disc golf. I quickly picked up the sport since and have claimed Reedy as one of my all-time favorite places to play. It's great for beginners and newcomers to the sport. Out of the courses I've played, Reedy still remains to be one of the most organized and enjoyable courses, despite any circumstance.

Fairest of the wooded Charlotte courses. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 23, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

1) Scorecard and maps available at the first tee. I like courses that think about the first timer or travelling disc golfer (such as myself). I do think ahead and print whatever I can about the course beforehand, but when I go out to new courses on the road I am on a mission, so many people will not think that up beforehand. This also helps the first timer local who does not know the course.

2) Basket positions listed on a sign at the first tee. It lists "baskets in SHORT positions". I like the standardization of this to leave all short positions for the winter, and all long for the summer, as opposed to the haphazard basket shifting I have seen on many courses.

3) There is a kiosk and a practice basket at the 1st tee area.

4) Garbage cans have lids on them that keeps any trash from blowing out, and also keeps the squirrels and such from entering the garbage. Imagine going to throw something in the garbage and a squirrel or racoon jumps up and latches onto your face. I might be afraid to go back to said course. This simple idea will keept hat from ever happening.

5) Pretty good cover on the ground. It is mostly 100% in the woods with very minimal turf areas therefore they rely on the leaves, pine straw, and mulch to cover the bare soil, since there is no way to grow turf in this dense of a wooded course. All in all it does a pretty good job of keeping the ground from being muddy and slick. You might actually suffer more from slipping on the pine straw than on the soil, but at lest it isn't muddy.

6) Very nice teesigns includes all of the needed info: Hole #, par, distance, all distances from both tees to both basket locations. There is a diagram also indicating the general lyout of the hole, something I value greatly on a tee sign.

7) Bridges are very well done and they do there job. They are safe and well put together and they do not show signs of shoddy craftsmanship as many courses tend to have (due to volunteer construction sometimes).

8) There is way more risk/reward on the long baskets. The shorts still have some basket locations that might create some spread of score distribution, but the longs have much more of that in play.

9) Overall the course has a decent variety in hole length. It has less 400' holes as some of the other Charlotte wooded courses making it the most accessible for more people, but it does have a decent variety. This will lead to different discs being thrown which is always a positive.

10) This course seems to be the fairest (some might think I mean easiest) of the densely wooded courses in the area. Charlotte has some incredibly tough and long wooded courses (nevin, hornets nest, renny) but this one requires the least amount of luck. You can shoot well here if you execute your shots and it doesn't take quite the precision it does on those other courses.

11) Well designed course with all skill levels in mind. Sure maybe a beginner wouldnt be "comfortable" here but it is a manageable course (at least as manageable as any course int he Charlotte area that I played. It would be a good step for a beginner golfer wanting more challenge, but who isn't quite ready to tackle renny, nevin, or hornets nest.

13) Dual pins and dual tees (on most holes). This is a great idea for multiple reasons. The first reason is variety of shot shaping is different based on the pins and also which tee you play. It also varies the length of the hole, which in turn varies the challenge. It also allows for a different course all the time. I am not sure if they stick to the long baskets all summer, and the shorts all winter, I am sure they mix it up, but it is nice to have an easier course setup for the winter when less people play, and you are not on the top of your game.

14) This course is the most wore in so it has very clearly defined fairways. I like this especially in a wooded courses because sometimes figuring out where the lanes are can be very difficult.

15) Dual concrete teepads are always a plus.

16) This course is far removed from other activities in the park although you might run across some walkers from time to time walking down the fairways or the occassional path thatintersects the course, but overall it isnt bad.

17) Excellent use of elevation on this course. This is a protypical Charlotte course with its elevation changes and its dense woods. Just what I consider to be awesome disc golf!

18) Very little undrebrush. Even if you get off the forgiving fairways by a little bit you won't have to worry too much about thorny vines or other such growth.

19) 18 solid holes of golf. As I said in the negatives nothing really stood out as that incredibly awesome hole, but there are zero throwaways on this course in my book, as so often happens on courses specifically due to routing or getting to another cool part of the property. This entire property could have disc golf weaved through it!!!!

20) Shelter and gazebo available for shelter and pinicking.

21) DGA baskets with yellow plate are the original course. The red normal #ed plates are the stout layout. Number plates are always nice, but even moreso when they face the tee like they do here!

22) Bathrooms near the parking lot.

23) Park has a nice variety of alternative things to do . . . horseshoes, playground, picnicking, volleyball, soccer, baseball, walking trails. This is always a positive especially if you are trying to play disc golf and keep the significant other happy too.

23) Next tee signs were helpful on 7 basket 8 tee.

24) All in all an enjoyable walk in the woods with or without the disc golf but it always makes it better!

Cons:

1) The course is definitely the most wore in. It has some areas where the soil is bare and has been worn down due to compaction and traffic. I didn't notice them to be too slick or slippery even after the recent rains they had, but it is still worth noting on course conditioning.

2) Unfortunately it looks like on Hle #1 the tree that was in the middle of the fairway has fallen down. i am not sure if it is by design or not but the mirror image shot down the right fairway still has the tree there. That creates a clear advantage to those shooting up the left fairway as opposed to the right. It isn't a huge negative, but it would be a better hole if both avenues had the same single tree in the fairway.

3) Stumps and roots are plentiful on this course and could cause you to trip and/or fall. Just be sure to keeo your eyes on the ground!

4) Lacks some of the challenge the other courses have. This can be viewed as a positive and a negative, but for this mention it is a negative. I have given the course props for being more fair and good for beginners so it gets two thumbs up for its challenge and 1 thumb down. Overall this nets out to a positive but I had to mention it here too.

5) Althought he course does have a couple shorter and a couple longer holes I think the variety could have been better handled. I would like to see some more holes in the 300-400' range and a couple more shorter acerun holes. It is the variety that is the spice of life as so many say, and some of the holes tend to be a little monotonous in distance.

6) I am listing this as a negative because for about 9 holes I though my car may be towed. There is a sign on the 10th tee that says violaters will be towed at owners expense. I am not sure what it is referring to, but because I got there before sunup I thought maybe I missed a sign that tells me to check in or to pay for park usage. So I played my last 9 holes in a hurry to try and beat whoever might be in charge of towing my car away. I still am not sure what it meant, the only thing I can think of is that parking by the 10th tee is not permitted and people may have done so int he past to get in a quick 9 or something.

7) Mulch could be used in a few spots to cover bare soil and handle some erosion issues. There aren't many places I would recommend this but around some of the tees and baskets it would be nice.

8) Apparently vandalism or breakins are a common occurrence. If you look to your left as you leave your car and head towards the 1st tee you will see the sign. It stood out to me even before I read some of the other reviews.

9) Course is known as the most played (probably for all the reasons I like the course), so it definitely will be crowded in summer and with lots of kids around.

10) No real signature holes, just a bunch of good holes. Nothing really wowed me (except my ace on #2 of course).

11) A few spots where directionals would help the first timer. Next tee signs would have been helpful on 5-6 and 9-10 for the first timer.

12) Long walk from 18 back to the lot, and if you are navigationally challenged you might not know where the lot is when you finish #18 so a simple sign would help here too.

Other Thoughts:

Overall I had a great day. I got an ace on my second hole of the day, and thoroughly enjoyed my round at this course. I had a much easier time playing well here and was surprised by my scores (+2 from the longs, and -8 from the shorts (helped by an ace)). There are by far way less true par 4's on this course than the others mentioned which makes a big difference. Most of the holes are duecable with a well executed shot fromt he shorts, and the longs require a bit more length and a bit more precision. All in all a very well designed course that can accomodate a lot of differing skill levels. It is another awesome course in another awesome park for Mecklenberg County. I have said it in the other reviews that this is the county you want to live in if you love disc golf. There are all sorts of activities int his park and the course is 100% removed from civilization. I love walking through the woods and hearing nothing and seeing nothing. You do cross or pass a road here and there but they are all park roads with minimal traffic.

I have a feeling this course is rated 3.5 only because the other courses in the area are so awesome. I would be more than happy to play this course any given day of the week, in fact I only wish Milwaukee had some more courses like this. I have to give it a 4 because I do not think it is far behind the other more well known and harder courses int he Charlotte area. As an outsider I think it is a great course and like I said I would be happy to play it every day. I have given the course a 4 because I feel that given the two layouts and the two pads this course has some great variety. Sure I only got to play the short baskets, but I think the added challenge of the longs and I tried to pay attention to where they are, will only make this course better than its 3.5 disc rating it has overall.

I am not sure if I have said this before, but I almost feel like after playing all the awesome courses in Charlotte that I need to go and knock every other course I have played and rated down about 1/2 a disc. This is such an awesome town, with some incredible disc golf and I think if I were to retire and still be playing disc golf . . . I might have to come to Charlotte!!!! I like our WI courses but they just happen to lack that "thing" that Charlotte has. I will miss you, but I may make it a yearly stop on my winter trip to Florida!!!

Pros:

The park is not far from civilization but you feel like you are. Very clean. Multiple concrete tee pad are always a plus. I like the use of elevation throughout the course. The signs make it very easy to navigate. Benches, trash cans, and bathrooms are never too far away.

Cons:

No real long shot. If you have a big arm it might not be used here, if you do not have a big arm bring your big arm friend and keep him in check here.

Other Thoughts:

My brother is a lefty and I am a righty and sometimes you tend to see advantages for one of us on a certain course, not here. We felt like it was an equal playing field and there would be no excuses. This is a fun course that I am sure I will be back to in the future. It's definetely worth your time.

Technical, wooded with elevation 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 5, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Reedy Creek is maintained very well. Concrete teepads on every hole and excellent signage depicting hole with basket locations, distance and par. Benches and trash cans are located at most holes. The course has short and long teepads. The long pads add a few more feet but not too much different from the shorts.

With the baskets in the short position the course plays as a beginner/intermediate course, in the long position it is more of an intermediate course. Play from the long tees gives advanced players a good challange. Short pins used from Oct-Mar. Longs Mar-Oct. A few short pin locations are not used because of past damage.

The elevation is very apparant on holes 2, 5, and 14. It also adds to the nice scenery.

Each hole is it's own adventure, and most holes are very unique and well thought out in development. Very technical and challanging course, requiring a variety of shots to shoot well. Long tees give some opportunity to let the guns out and rip one for distance, but long drives not required to shoot this course well.

Cons:

This may be a tough course to play in wet weather, as most fairways are dirt. The elevation changes on this course could make it difficult to trek in wet conditions.

Map may be necessary if not playing with someone who is familiar with the course. In my first experience I went from #7 to #2 and couldn't find my way back to #7. And it wasn't until my third time playing the course that I found out that there was a short teepad for #6.

Other Thoughts:

Reedy Creek is the oldest course still in place in the Charlotte area. I'm sure it has taken alot of time for Reedy to develop the character is has today. Located near UNCC it gets its share of traffic at all hours of the day. This is one course in Charlotte that feels more natural, not so much as a "walk in tha park" but walking a nature trail. A gem of a course in a nicer area of town, and a very nice park. Expect a crowd on nice afternoons and on weekends. Would highly recommend playing a round at Reedy Creek if you are visiting the area.

Pros:

This was my home course in charlotte so a lil biased...lol. It is a great course to learn the ins and outs of DG. It plays well and like all charlotte course is very well maintained. It is not the longest course in the area or the hardest (renny GOLD) but it is a great course.

Cons:

That it is not closer
