Needs tees, otherwise ok 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 24, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Hard to add much on top of the prior reviews, but here goes:
- Scenic setting next to the Delaware River with nice Discatcher baskets and it's frequently mowed.

- Surprisingly good use of the few trees on the property to make many of the holes more interesting than just simple open field shots. And a couple (#1 and #4) are long enough to require a full-out driver shot.

- Easy to find, and has plenty of parking right next to the sign for tee #1.

- Water is close by but only a limited threat on two holes (#4 & #5).

- Holes are positioned away from walking paths and the athletic courts, so even though it's in a multi-use park you're away from other park visitors.

- Quick to play, uncrowded course just a couple minutes off I-295.

Cons:

- No tee pads or tee signs, and no flags marking them anymore either. Saw no sign of red or "long" blue tee locations anywhere. You REALLY have to rely on the course map to get an idea of where to tee off from. There are worn-in dirt patches at the white tees (I think?) for #1, #3, and #6, but you'll just have to pick a spot to tee off from for all the other holes.

- Have to throw to the same basket for #4 and #5 since the old #4 basket has been removed (yes, it requires silly backtracking).

- No signature or particularly interesting hole, just kind of blah/typical lightly wooded holes.

- There's enough space that at least 3 more holes could be added and still be away from the other park amenities.

Other Thoughts:

- Overall, it's an average lightly wooded 9 holer that makes for an average playing experience. Beginner friendly course where advanced players can expect a few birdies. The two biggest problems are the lack of tees and that the holes are just not all that interesting.

- A nice place to bring the family to introduce them to the sport, or to walk the river trail and play other sports (there's basketball courts, an open field, etc.) for an afternoon.

Simple start, Great for beginner like me. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 14, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Friendly atmosphere and scenery right on the river. Almost no chance to lose a disc (unless you are me - but i did get it back 2 weeks later). Not very crowded.

Cons:

Tee markers are flat bricks in the ground, not all baskets are numbered.

Other Thoughts:

Not too much i can say that is not already posted here but do have to say i am just starting to learn the sport and this is a great course to do it on. Most shots are nice and straight but of varying distances from 250-330ft to give you a feel for what you need to throw, plus almost every hole is wide open so you can make those beginner mistakes without trudging through the woods or water to get your disc back on course.

new 18 is awesome 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 1, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

course is usually in excellent shape except for trash which is not from disc golfers anyways. theres a good group of locals that play here and are really pushing for course improvements. the original 9 is a fairly easy and short round. one of my favorite aspects of this course is its proximity to the delaware river....thats a REAL water hazard. if your disc goes in there, its irretrievable. also, during the summer theres singles events every tuesday, and during the winter there are glow events

Cons:

-trash
-water is nasty
-not exactly in the nicest area of town
-you WILL lose discs if you are a true am
-if you're coming from across the delaware memorial bridge you will have to pay a $4 toll on your way back

-biggest con: natural teepads with no signage

Other Thoughts:

currently I am not a fan of the 9 hole layout at all. however, on tuesday nights john henry kane has been running events that feature the new 18 hole layout. unfourtunately that layout is not permanent - yet. however...once the extra baskets are put in permanently this course will be MUCH better. probably around 3-3.5 as far as ratings go. good things are happening at pennsville and the future is bright....just be patient.

Take a Break! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 26, 2007 Played the course:once

Pros:

Easy, quick access from I-295.
Wide open and on the short side.
Extra Ammenities to keep the family busy whilst you throw.
Small lake to trow across! Nice. The peninsula tee is worth a stop by.

Cons:

Only nine holes and not a true challenge.
Lots of geese when I played.
(Not the Birdie you are looking for)

Other Thoughts:

Nice little park to stop at if you are passing through and need a break. Nice to throw a forgiving course when you need a pick-me-up.

My Favorite Easy Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 20, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Just a pure pleasure to play here. Relaxing course with wonderful views of Bridge over the Delaware River, The river, an immaculate pretty lake, lush mowed green grass and sprinkled hardwoods here and there. The course is mostly flat and offers no real challenge but the setting is just so peaceful here and there is enough to keep you mildly interested in your round. This is what a community park should be, a place to unwind and relax. There are only 9 holes but none of them are terribly boring or short holes and they have 2 tees per basket. What I really love about this course is you can safari all day here and never get bored. The lake comes into play on 3 of the holes. You even throw off the peninsula over the lake to a basket out on a point with the lake behind the basket, thats the long tee for hole #2. That is a remarkable hole. Hole 1 and 5 have the lake as a backdrop and with the openness here you can easily overthrow into the lake. Holes 8 and 9 utilize a shuleless grove of trees well. This course is not difficult at all but the ambience and mood here really make it a lot of fun. Perfect place to take your wife or girlfriend. I played 9 and then backtracked a safari 9 back to the start and was amazed at how many fun options there were to play. Thats the benefit of primarily open courses....easy and fun to safari. The course area is isolated from other park activities. Long Ace opportunities here.

Cons:

It's not on the caliber of whats across the river in Delaware. The tees are natural and somewhat hard to find due to just being a flat marker in the ground. I would guess it could get windy here.

Other Thoughts:

I think theres a place in disc golf for a course like this. The kind of course thats just pleasant and relaxing. I think after a group who lives to the north of Delaware just finished getting their egos destroyed at nearby Iron Hill that this course which is the first exit after the Bridge into Jersey and only 2 minutes off of 95 would be the perfect stop to rejuvenate the soul and heal before heading back to New York, New England, or wherever they may be headed. If you doubt this place is pretty take a minute on the long tee pad of hole 2 and look at the river, the bridge and the lake that surrounds you and ask yourself if you'd really rather be somewhere else.
