Pros:
-Concrete Tee pads; Tee Signs with Fairway Map, Pin location and Distance; Alt Pin Placements have now been added to each hole.
-Well Defined Fairways
-One narrow wooded fairway.
-Rolling terrain along the Skunk River
-Great Beginner course, also adequate for the seasoned player
-Rolling hill terrain
-Two long distance open downhill shots
-Long distance drives
-guarded baskets
-One Risk/Reward shot across a creek
-Course is well maintained
-The tall river grass has been cut! (It used to be tall enough to lose discs in)
-Primarily an open field course, with a few holes that will require some accuracy.
-Shelter House with Pop Machines.
-The park is Disc Golf only, so there shouldn't any park goers.
-If you really want to add an element of difficulty, make the area outside of the fairway O.B.
FWIW
-Bocce Ball courts, if you are interested
-There WAS a fantastic small restaurant near the #6 Basket. The owner passed away; the restaurant closed!
Cons:
-Not much variety, majority of the course plays in the open field
-Course is prone to river flooding
-You still have to throw through the Gap on #5, which used to be the old #3. *If the pin is in the new Alt position, you can see the basket, if it's in the old position, you'll want a spotter.
Other Thoughts:
The redesign has a good flow to it. You'll see some of the old familiar holes are still apart of the new design. #3 is a new fairway and the new #6 tee pad has been moved near the old number 4 teepad. The #6 long basket is in the same place. 7-9 are the same, except that they now have alt pin locations. Also, they relocated the #8 Tee pad to offer a straighter shot through the woods making it more of a reasonable finesse shot, rather than the brutal dogleg that it used to be.
Riverview may be a 9 hole course, but it has a certain appeal to it. It is fun to play and it gives more challenges than meets the eye. It gives you a chance to break out your long arm and also requires accuracy on other fairways. Riverview still offers up a challenge, and tournaments are often held here. If you happen to be passing through Mt Pleasant, it's definitely worth a stop. It is an open field, so bring some liquids in the summer.
