wow let's go for sertoma 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 13, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Y'all ready for my first drunk review? I don't care- buckle up son 'cause here we go!

Sertoma is a freakin prom date of a course. She is beautiful. At first I was like, "oh man, two forehand holes in a row?" But then hole 3 bursts out at you and this course says, "Hey man, here's an open downhill let-it-rip hole for ya." And it only get's better from there.

Eighteen holes of fun short-range controlled shots. They may all be par 3, but they aren't all gimme's. Sertoma is going to make you work for it, and you're going to like it. Just when you think she's not being fair, she opens up and says, "hey, hit this hyzer line baby, you can do it." And you may over throw, but that's ok. Sertoma is gentle so you can still make your par.

Are the tees concrete? Honestly I can't remember. I played three courses today and at least one of them was gravel and I think it was this one but it wasn't too bad. Are there tee signs? Yes and they were great. Were the baskets old discatchers like every other damn course you've ever played? Absofrickinloutly. Are you going to thank this course for the pleasure of playing it? You better.

This course comes with scenic woods and open fields, with mowed fairways bordered by the effing Savannah from Africa. I'm talking waist high grass you could hide a whole pride of lions in. But they mow a generous amount of fairway to make sure the way is actually fair. So don't complain.

OMG I almost forgot to talk about elevation. It's here. And it's beautiful.

Cons:

Alright. Now the cons. I hate it but we have to talk about the ugly stuff. For starters, there was a lot of broken glass on hole 9. It came out of nowhere and I didn't know what to do about it. I hate seeing that on a course because kids play this game man, c'mon. Just stop taking glass out on the course.

And what's keeping this from being a 4.5 star/disc review? There aren't any par 4's or 5's. Honestly I like it like this and thought this layout was super fun. But in today's world, you know what it takes to succeed and that's the challenging placement shooting of longer pars. I'm sorry Sertoma, that's just the way it is.

Other Thoughts:

This course was a freakin' great stop on a road trip from Atlanta to Johnson City. Did I love this course? Yeah I did. Was it beautiful? Like a freakin sunset from a hilltop sitting next to a pretty girl you have a crush on but you're not sure if she likes you back so you play it cool but you're pretty sure she does so you let yourself enjoy the moment and have some feels.

There's even a freakin' creek on this course and I threw into it on hole 18 because I overthrew the basket. Don't do that if you can help it. The bank is basically a 5ft straight drop and the small vines/roots/saplings aren't the most stable. I can tell you the water is very cold and refreshing, but if you don't have a bunch of laundry in your car because you're on your way to your parent's in Johnson City I do not recommend falling into the creek. It by no means dampered my experience and I absolutely loved this course. So should you. Now go out there and freakin play it you goonie!

Thank you for enjoying my first ever drunk review. I think I may drink before all of them. Let me know if that's a good or bad idea because I may not be in the best decision-making space right now

great course after getting worked over at shaver rec 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 20, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great course to get your confidence back up. Great mix of holes. Def loved the first hole one of the easiest aces I have gotten only 118 feet. Course had fairways nicely groomed. Great risk/reward on many holes. Also even a small waterfall or two that was pretty cool. Some benches also

Cons:

Only really con to me was some of the wood signs were hard to make out which caused a lot of basket scouting.

Other Thoughts:

Fun course a lot of ace and birdie chances

Fun for all 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 20, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Great variety of hole types and terrain. You get ups and downs, open fields, shots that go from open to woods, woods to open, completely wooded shots, annys, hyzers and maybe even a roller or two if you got the sack. The easy to get to pads are all concrete. Ability to shape lines is a must, if this was your home course you would not be a bomber but your accuracy and upshot game would probably be unbeatable.

Cons:

Sand teepads take a little pre work before you can feel comfortable throwing. I imagine on a normal day this wouldn't be an issue, but during the tournament there was a lot of traffic obviously.
Signs could use a re-do but most holes were pretty self explainatory.

Other Thoughts:

This course screams fun. This is evidenced by hole one basically being a long putt and the kind of hole where if you don't deuce you just want to hang it up for the day. The field holes are very nice with mowed fairways and large concrete pads. I really enjoyed this course, it may not be long, it may not be particularly hard (but if you go offline...look out!) but man is it FUN. If you leave with a scowl just go ahead and jump in the creek and drown yourself because there is no joy in your life.

Sertoma / Chainsaw Classic 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 20, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Nice mix of short to medium distance shots.
Up and down hill, left right turns, tight to open fairways and risk and reward. Couple of nice mowed fairways a la Winthrop. Need to play smart on all but a few open holes with distance and shot lines - creek in play. Great fun for players at any level.
Previous reviews very accurate.

Cons:

Work in progress with several concrete pads. Balance are sand mix. A rake would be nice to smooth out previous players ruts till complete.

Other Thoughts:

Played in Chainsaw Classic (2) rounds.
Job well done by Adam Wright and all who contributed to the effort. Nice to see opportunities for novices and juniors to compete.

Fun Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 23, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very fun course. Nice scenery. Short and technical course except for a few holes. Nice elevation changes. Benches every few holes were nice. Several holes where you will hunt for the ace. New cement tee pads on several holes. You will need all shape shots espeically with your mid-ranges.

Cons:

Some of the tee pads had large ruts but a large run up was not needed on most holes. Needs a couple trash cans especially one in parking lot.

Other Thoughts:

When playing for the first time, walk to the basket to view possible trouble before you throw. Some baskets come close to the creek and it is needed information before you throw. Very efficient use of land. All in all very fun course!

Great Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 12, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Sertoma Field's DG course is one of the finest courses in the upstate of South Carolina. The rec department is continuously making improvements to the course. Last time I went there were new trash cans and benches. The designer used the land to create a variety of holes; suitable for beginners to advanced players.

Cons:

The teepads are still a little rough. However, it wouldn't surprise me if concrete teepads are the next addition to the course.

Sertoma Field 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 25, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

There is a complete variety of holes on this course: open holes, wooded holes, lefties, righties, shorter holes and longer holes. There is lots of elevation change throughout and the deep/wide creek keeps you honest on several holes. This is one of the better course layouts I have played; the way the designers used the available land results in a very enjoyable course. I especially like the way the course alternates between the big open field and the wooded areas. This results in several holes that start in the open and end in the woods and vice versa. I also like the way that every hole has some sort of challenge, be it an extreme elevation change, a dogleg in the fairway or a carefully placed obstacle.

Cons:

Hard to find any real cons to this course, although it can be noted that many of the gravel tee pads are somewhat rutted from being used over time. That said, I can't remember having any problems with the tee pads without using a little extra care. If your disc goes into the creek, it is probably a goner since the size of the creek and steepness of the banks makes disc retrieval not worthwhile.

Other Thoughts:

This course was a blast to play. Sertoma Field is a very nice city park in a rural town in the South Carolina foothills. There are plenty of other park activities going on, but the disc golf course is in a dedicated area of the park so there is no concern about conflict with other park activities. There are plenty of gems in this part of the state and Sertoma Field is one of the best. This course is at the top of my list to play again on future outings to the Palmetto State.

Short but nice 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 28, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is my home course...meaning its closer than any other...my kids and I play here almost weekly.

The course is separated from other park activities. So there is no worry about walkers, hikers, bike riders or others getting in the way.

Course is very short so its a great place for my younger kids to play and not get tired.

Course offers several ace run holes...I've aced two of the holes (1 & 15) and hit metal on many others (4, 6, 8, 9, 12, 14) so buddies abound...if you keep the shots online.

The course also offers several benches, trash cans and the creek has several small waterfalls that add to the feel of the course.

The park and rec guys keep the course in great shape...cleaning up down trees and limbs immediately and keeping the grassy fairways mowed.

Cons:

The course has crushed rock tees on most holes and that makes for some uneven footing. The tee signs are showing age and are hard to read on some holes.

The banks to the creek are steep in some areas and that makes retrieving an errant shot difficult on some holes.

They allow parents and patrons of other sports to park along holes 1, 2 and 3 during the spring and early summer on week nights and Saturdays. Would be frustrating if you're not from the area and came to play a course and found cars parked 'in play'. I think it shows a lack of respect for the game.

Other Thoughts:

I enjoy playing the course and it has become my favorite course in Oconee County, SC and one of my top 5 to play. It's short enough where I can bring my three boys and they can play the full 18 without getting winded or discouraged.
