Robin Hood & Maid Marian could frolic here 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 11, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

With numbered sign posts and 24 chain DGA baskets, the level, park-wooded nine hole course in Sherwood is nestled in a quiet corner of a very small town. Unless there is something going on at the little auditorium beside the first few holes, you'll likely not even have a car in view. The disc golf play is reasonable for casual to Recreational players, with little chance of losing a disc except possibly on holes 7 and 9. You'll find ace runs and a little opportunity to shape your line, especially on holes 7 & 8.

Cons:

The first hole plays too close to the corner of the building (and its last window). The level terrain means that water pools behind the 3rd basket and the ground can get soggy (and the third fairway plays over a bench, picnic table, and the flagpole sidewalk). The entire fairway for hole 4 is now a gravel parking area. And there is no direct line of flight on hole 7. It practically requires a lefty boomerang shot to get in close off the tee, because of the thick woods on your right. Finally, overshooting hole 9 in the summer will get you into some prickly weedage.

Other Thoughts:

First timers may want to bring the map, but please note that hole 9 has been altered since the map was drawn up. It is now shorter, plays to the right of the third basket, and no longer crosses the fairways on 3 & 4. Overall, Sherwood is a decent course for locals, or if you happen to be in the area, looking for a shaded opportunity to loosen up, but not one to go too far out of your way to play. The natural tees are not even much worn in, suggesting it gets minimal play.

Nice Little Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 26, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

There are some mature trees throughout the course which make some of the holes interesting. The course makes good use of a small area.

Cons:

Many holes are just too short, and not much of a challenge. Hole 7 was the only hole I had to think about how I was going to play it, since the basket was not in direct view. That was not fun. There are some gravel drives where cars can go through the park that have to be considered. I usually put a nick in a disc from hitting the gravel in between holes. There could be issues with cars parked between the tees and baskets on a busy day. On hole 1, I came pretty close to the building, and fortunately my driver broke to the left and avoided the roof. There was some wet spots with standing water and ice. I slipped on one of the grass tees that had an icy patch. Fortunately, since the hole was easy, I recovered from the poor drive.

Other Thoughts:

This is a small course, but it makes pretty good use of what is available. It is nice to have a place to go play whenever I am in the area. The grass tee areas were not worn and do not appear to have had a lot of use. It rained recently, and a lot of water had frozen in spots. Although it is not as challenging as a lot of other courses, it makes for a decent practice course, and a good place to learn to play where few courses can be found.

Pros:

A course in a small town, nice baskets, tee markers, port -a- john on site. some long holes

Cons:

no description of hole layout on tee signs, no next tee signs

Other Thoughts:

course is on the grounds of a old church or a school. course is very flat. If your using the gravel road as OB, I can see it's challenges. Hope they're using the "EDGE" program in their school system. As more people need to be playing this course.
