Hidden Gem! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 29, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The conditions of the equipment left me very impressed. My son and I recently went back here after not having been for a couple of years. The course still looks new. The baskets are clean and in great condition. The tees all still have signs that you can read. And there was no graffiti or trash. The trees have gotten bigger, which adds some difficulty. The tees are rubber mats bordered by timbers. And the baskets are DISCatchers. Ace chances are high with no hole over 250 feet.
There's a trash can at #1 and #5, plus a bench on #5. Restrooms are less than 200 feet away. The course is part of a sports complex with the 2nd largest skatepark in CO, ballfields, and a waterpark.

Cons:

The main issue here continues to be mud. The course is separated from the parking lot by a ditch which is always muddy. And hole #8 never seems to dry out. Some holes force you high, which can lead to some discs in trees which are very hard to see. The DISCatchers are nice, however they only have a single layer of outer chains, no inners. The 1st tee has issues with dirt washing down from above. I think a few lines of rocks up the hill a bit could solve this problem. The tee on #3 has an erosion issue under the back corner. We piled up a ton of rocks but it will need dealt with soon. #4's tee is on a service road and is all dirt and ruts. #9's tee appears to have been moved back 10' or so. The ground under the mat is very lumpy. I'd love to see this course expand to 18 holes if they could find the space. Then it would be a little more worth the drive. It is the only course around for miles. The negatives boil down to some bad tees, ATV tracks and ruts, and MUD.

Other Thoughts:

#1 is a steep uphill zig-zag with lots of trees lining the fairway.
#2 is flat. Overshooting is punishing.
#3 is a right-turning downhill.
#4 is a crappy tee, downhill surrounded by trees.
#5 Bench and trash can at tee. Fairway is almost gone. lots of trees.
#6 Fairly straight, rolling mini black sand dunes.
#7 Uphill at basket. Fairway has run-off.
#8 Very short, very steep. Watch your footing!
After #8 you cross over #2, so watch out for discs.
#9 Lumpy tee, downhill. Basket surrounded by trees except tee side. Overshooting is punishing. Accuracy is rewarded greatly! If you are passing by Trinidad, definitely stop here. Very quick course, but very fun.
