Defeated Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 13, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Mild elevation....Ambitious use of alternate tee areas to produce 18 holes on 9 baskets. Balance of 6 moderate woods, 6 tight woods, and 6 open holes. Bathrooms, water and Parking. Not difficult park to find. A simple little park to practice different aspects of your game. Especially good for approach and putting practice. Easy to navigate. Variety of shots here:
Hole #1 straight wooded fairway downhill
#2 Anhyzer uphill to grassy field basket
#3 open drive downhill to protected basket
#4 technical upshot through scrappy woods
#5 short drive back into protected basket in woods
#6 Open drive across sloping field
#7 Open drive to basket behind small tree
#8 Technical early drive to open basket
#9 Technical early drive to grassy basket
#10-18 follow same theme with different angles and distances. Fun course for teaching or quickies.

Cons:

It's really short. No drivers needed. I threw my driver and it sailed off course and exposed how tiny this course is. holes 1,2 and 10,11 play next to and between swing sets. 3,12 play over a dilapidated volleyball court and walking path.4,13 play next to a moose miller backyard. 5,14 play close to fairways of 4,13 and 8,17. 6,15 and 7,16 simply use the same field to throw back and forth at one another and there is an access road that skirts this field tightly. 9,18 drives to a basket close to playground and bathrooms. #3,12 and #1,10 are tempting fate with proximity to the busy street. Many of the signs are dilapidated and knocked over. All of the natural tees are in poor shape. It is just simply too small a piece of parkland to put a disc golf course on. Also mixes discs with children and parkgoers. An accident waiting to happen. Do not play on weekends in peak season when park is in use. I played in February so there was no danger.

Other Thoughts:

Its not a bad little course. I enjoyed the elevation and the variety of little shots. It is just a dangerous layout that is inviting danger and will prevent DGers from relaxing and having fun if the park is in use. Nockamixon and the Little Lehigh Parkway courses to the south use this much land for one hole, if that demonstrates the smallness of the course. Good place for locals to practice. A shame the drive there I saw amazing hills and mountains everywhere. Too bad theres not a bigger piece of land that is not multi-use to utilize. Park in the lot between the pool and pavillion. Course begins at the low south corner of park and ends by the bathrooms.
