Pros:
In 2006 they squeezed 9 baskets into a hillside park - and haven't done much with it since
+ A couple of decent holes that use the wooded parts of the park (#1 / #10 and #4 / #13)
+ If you like elevation, you'll have a bunch of opportunities to throw up and down the steep hillside that dominates the park
Cons:
- A lot of severely uneven tees, and most of the "back 9" tees are missing, so you really have to guess at locations
- Space is too small. Several holes can only be played if you're alone in the park (one basket is right up against the main playground). And if there are other disc golfers playing, you'll probably throw at one another several times
- I admire ambition, but this space has no business trying to be an 18 hole course. Adding second tee positions to 9 mediocre holes only compounds the problems with space and play
Other Thoughts:
~ The DGCR average rating 1.95 is right, and it's not a course that initially scored well, but then sank as the course deteriorated over time. I guess this just shows that we've always been a discerning group!
~ It seems there was an era of placing baskets into existing parks 15 years ago; creating reasonable tracks of short, tightly-packed holes. Disc technology has made these layouts into ace runs, and a lack of upkeep have allowed them to become pretty bleak and rundown. Every now and then, you can find one that's good for newbies or for practice - but Victory Park doesn't fit the bill. It's not terrible, but it's best bagged one time, and left behind
