Challenging Wooded Course Where You'll Be Searching For Discs 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 15, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Challenging course, one of the toughest in Alberta for sure. It's up there with Lloyd, Aspen, Canmore Nordic.

- Well maintained generally.

- Three different tee layouts, though they're difficult to find in the ground at times.

- Lots of different looks throughout the course, if you've got a full repertoire of shots (forehand, backhand, thumber, roller etc.) you'll find places where they make sense.

- Not too busy of course, not much public to worry about.

Cons:

- If you're not advanced/pro, you're going to spend a lot of frustrating time looking for discs. Tight, long wooded corridors on some holes are a real challenge for beginner/intermediate players.

- This is a "spotter recommended" course.

- One section of the course (maybe 4 or 5 holes) is really low and can be very soggy if there's been recent rain. Last round we played was a couple of days after heavy rain and we needed to hop around standing water in a few areas.

- Bad signage, tee markers in the ground can be hard to see. Can be hard to tell where you're throwing even with a layout card. Do not play this course without a map.

- Not a fan of the baskets.

- It's maintained, but it's still a pretty wild course, so even the fairways can be overgrown and hard to find discs in. I lost a disc on 18 that I parked in the fairway but couldn't find in the weeds/clover/long grass.

Other Thoughts:

Torn on whether to give this a 3.5 or 4, gave it a 3.5 as I think others have rated it too highly. Even though it's in the same category of course in terms of length and challenge, there's no way it should be getting the same rating as Aspen Meadows or Canmore Nordic. To me, as an intermediate player, this course is the least enjoyable out of the Canmore Nordic/Aspen/Lloyd category.
