Pros:
- Concrete tees
- Old but functioning Innova Discatchers
- #6 is a fun little downhill tunnel shot
- #3 goes over a pond but has a nice bailout area to the left
- Signage is old school DGA material and seems accurate - until you get to 14.
- Several of the holes are next to the river here and it's surprisingly scenic. The water comes into play for aggressive shots but there is plenty of area to avoid the water.
- With the flat nature of this course and wide expanses of mowed grass this is an awesome place to practice your roller game.
Cons:
- Holy cow are there a lot of noisy trains next to this park. I guess you get used to it?
- With the exception of 3-6 this is an extraordinarily flat course.
- Many of the holes are real yawners - especially 14 through 18. Just boring straight ahead flat fairways.
- 4 and 5 have parallel fairways going on opposite directions and are way too close to each other. Not a fan.
- Other than "next tee" arrows on the signage there is nothing for navigation and there really needs to be more. UDisc is essential for finding your way around.
- There is acres of space between some of these holes and I just don't understand why.
- The signage and UDIsc do not agree at all between 14-17. I do not understand what is going on here but it sort of looks like someone might be rearranging hole numbers and order. I followed UDisc and that seemed to make sense.
- Lots of sketchy looking individuals just hanging around doing...whatever. Didn't feel real comfortable playing by myself here.
Other Thoughts:
Woods Park reflects the state it resides in...flat. Like billiard ball table flat. But there are a few niceties that don't make it horrible. The river on the one side is nice. I'm sure when things aren't in a drought condition like they are now the pond on #3 is pretty cool. Unfortunately that pond currently smells like poo. I was in the area attending a rocket launch in Argonia and had some time to play a round. I don't regret the time I spent playing here...much.
