Hi, my name is superberry and I'm a chucker hater.

I need to admit this fact. As a DISC GOLFER, it makes me ashamed to placed in the same stereotypical bin as this majority of the people out on the course. Being a disc golf advocate, vocal supporter, and course designer who is all for the growth of challenging and interesting courses designed for good people, it forces me to distance myself from 75% of the players. During most rounds, I pick up and carry out more trash that I could have ever brought in. I dirty up my bag with the leaking stinking filth left behind by chuckers because I respect the beauty of the course. I could go on and on about how I clean up, fix up, replace, repair, etc, etc after chuckers have done their 'thing', but I'll save it for another session. Group therapy may last a while!

You too can join the group, just admit your shame that people look at you funny when they hear that you play disc golf. Because what people hear you say is "I'm a littering, loud, vandal who flings frisbees while frolfing", because of the chuckers stereotype.

I feel the pain every day. I don't want to say I hate "Chuckers" since hate is such a strong word, but yea there are times that they really annoy the piss outta me. I have it a bit tougher than most disc golfers in that politically (as in city government) I'm the representative for all disc golf in the area being the president of the BDGA. I've been trying diligently to convert these "chuckers" over to the light through being an ambassador for the sport and trying to educate them on how not to act.
Problem is there's a new batch every summer to deal with. I guess we just need to infiltrate the schools/colleges better.
Only thing I can do for now is work with the few converts I get every year and have them work on converting their idiot friends.

Ok thought of another good point.

When trying to sell a course to city one of the big selling points we try to use is that it'll displace the unsavory element on the property by creating traffic.

and what happens when the course gets put in.....?

I almost want to take everything out of our kiosks and post up a huge sign saying,
"Enjoy playing on ______ disc golf course or would like more courses to play?
Then STOP WITH THE LITTERING /VANDALISM BULLS**T!"
"If you don't (we)the city will pull the course"
"Thank you
Drew Smith
President of the Bluegrass Disc Golf Association"
"P.S. Don't s**t where you eat."

I think this will either cause everyone to hate me (more so)

or

scare the "chuckers" into actually taking care of what they are given for free (I doubt it)

or

cause the players who actually give a crap to finally take action.

I'm down for this group! I'm so ****ing tired of getting heat from the park district due to a-holes pulling out signs and kicking over garbage cans. I keep telling the park that it's not us that play on Thursdays during leagues. Furthermore, I have to explain that we actually help clean up whenever possible. All I hear them say is that they watch us play and see us drinking beer and smoking weed. What can I say to that? My only response is that I can't control everyone that comes out and that there are a lot of "chuckers" that come out too.

Whenever I see people doing stupid **** I just ask them if they like having cops around. They usually say no. Then I say, "Then why do stupid **** to bring them here?"

If I am not walking away, I am walking toward it. "Not looking away" meant taking action against it. I just didn't want to say "open a can of whoop azz" ;)

Count me in! We should all start snapping photos of these motherchuckers and compiling them into a collection of the most humorous, a la "The People of Wal-Mart." :)

Fortunately, the masses here are still so oblivious of disc golf that there isn't much of a chucker stereotype.

Me: "I play disc golf"
Stranger: [blank stare] "Oh, neat."
Stranger [changes subject b/c he doesn't know what I said]: "Boy it's getting hot now."
Me: "Sure."

Not everyone who smokes weed or drinks is a loud mouth, litter pig a-hole chucker, who wants unwarented attention or wishes to destroy the enviornment. If this is 75% of our players, you are in the minority and may wish to choose a different pastime!

We just had a course closed here because of this, it's always been private, but now it's CLOSED. It's my favorite course, I have an "in" but from now on people will get trespassing tickets and cars towed. I guess this is what can happen. It's very hard to approach the city and ask for new places when we are actually losing them due to bad behavior. I'm all for this group.

I am not advocating bad bahavior! I'm just saying don't condem all smokers and drinkers based on the behavior of the db's!

It was so hot and humid today that I couldn't even play seriously.. I felt like a chucker out there.

I think most people here are lying and over exaggerating their situations.

-Most people say the collect litter, but they don't. They kinda wished they were that good of a person, and on the internet, they can pretend to be.

-Most pot smokers smoke at the most discreet location on the course. What you are probably seeing is cigarette smoke (or a complete idiot non-regular).

-The city 'watches' people drink beer and smoke pot? Yeah right. You see, the city is the 'police' and if they were actually watching they would give 'tickets.'

-"They" closed a "private" course but you still have an "in?" What does that even mean? A private owner got tired of trash...so what does that have to do with the city?

Nonetheless, people DO litter, and that's what I thought this thread is about. Lets EDUCATE the masses on courtesy and respect of the course, and not turn this into another 'pot smokers are evil' thread.

Additionally, I think all this BEER DRINKING AND POT SMOKING DISCUSSION on PUBLIC ONLINE FORUMS perpetuates our perceived reputation to any public figure that researches the forums.

Wait so majority of the people on the course slinging their plastic are not disc golfers?

How did you come up with 75 percent?

I pick up trash too

...who flings frisbees while frolfing", because of the chuckers stereotype.

I sometimes play with whammo frisbee pdga discs does that make me a frolfer?

I used to smoke and drink beer all the time on the course, never did litter or vandal, and alot of the people that play at the courses I go to in the northwest part of oregon also drink beer and smoke pot, alot of them don't litter and don't vandalize.

You are probably in a bad area or got a bad idea of the real population of discgolfers and how they conduct themselves.
