Fontanel Mansion is having their grand opening Saturday July 2nd.

Awesome. Guess I know what I'll be doing this Saturday. Will this course be a non-pay-to-play permanently or just during the grand opening day?

from the map it looks like a pretty nice set up, some open, some wooded, water comes in to play; at 7045 it has decent length. i'll have to add it to my list of nashville courses to hit.

I went out there today with Scott & met the guy building the course. It looks like it will be a sweet 18. So far it's going to be a free course.

It's on private property so you can buy beer there.

that's a big image

Sorry about that I did it from my iPhone. I'll post some pics when I get home. The guys are wirking hard to get it done in time.

The course layout has changed a little from the map.

There is a big flat flood plain next to the stream and right next to that is some good incline hills. One hole they were working on was a tight wooded 400' steep downhill straight shot. One of the open fiels shots looked about 800'.

The interesting thing is the holes on the stream's flood plain had to be completely removeable. Tee pad and all. So they made carpet tee pads that can be pulled. This may be a negative but I imagined that it would be a plus if they want to tweak the design after a few weeks of actual play.

I can't remember the guys name that is building the course but he is a DCGR member. His plan was to make some of the course easy enough for any beginners that might stop by but challenging enough for any others.

It's goiong to be a little rough on the opening day but fun.

Stopped in today and walked (and measured) the course today. Long holes in open, with some mandos and road / woods OB. In development woods - still lots to get done there but steep and fun shots - just stay on fairways. Total length was 6890. Lots of work done so far, but this Saturday holes will be in place (sleeves all set now), woods wil be a workout (big hills and tight), and the beer garden on hole 18 will be a great break.

Here are some of the pics that I took...

Interesting, thought about checking it out this weekend. But, I'm not sure I'll be able to. It looks and sounds much tougher after these descriptions than I first imagined.

What I saw it would be a tough course for me. But for a guy that can throw 300'+ would have a lot of fun. The open holes are boomer shots. The wooded holes need power & control.

The tee pads on the flat area is interesting. Because of the potential for flash flooding everything has to be quickly removable. That's the reason for the carpet tee pads.

I'm disappointed that I had to leave before it opened. I would have played it. Probably would have thrown a 18+ over par. But the location and support the builder has gotten from the property owners it could become a premier course in the area.

Next year I'll be visiting family again and I'll go play it.

Well, to be going in there. It has to be nice, they aren't low quality around that area. Especially at that place. I am looking forward to playing it, but we'll see if I can make it out there.

It was packed with groups on most every hole. The open holes are mostly completely open, long, and flat while the wooded holes are shorter with serious elevation and technical requirements. The tee signs are nice and all tee pads are carpeted and framed in where need be. Beware of ticks though. I got five or so off of me during and after the round. Bring plenty of water too.

Wow first post and you go off like a mad man. In saying that I agree with you on some aspects of your rant. I was not able to play the course yesterday but I was able to walk through it with FredVegas and my thoughts were I was not very impressed with the design. The only good thing about this course is the holes in the woods. Dude was so happy with his design that I didn't have the heart to tell him that the only good thing about his course was the wooded sections. He seems to be really proud which isn't bad but I really hope he looks at this design and say we need to add more to the open holes or get rid of them and add more woods. Building it on a flood plain was pure dumb. Why even think about doing that when you have so much woods to play with. This course could still be one of the better courses in the area but not if they leave all of these open holes.

Now saying all of that...maybe he did what he could with what land he was told he could use. That might be the issue but if it wasn't bad decision to have so many open holes.

Heh, interesting. I'll have to get up there and check it out.

CDent I am the one you talked to with the older guy that was visiting. Like I said in my other post I just don't like how many pure open hole (no trees or bushes in the way) there are with so much woods. Maybe you can tell us why there are so many open holes and not many wooded ones. Sorry about Rodney he has issues haha. O yes I help build and maintain a course. Burde Ridge!

Sounds like another "right handed" HB design with a bad attitude running around... As Beyonce would say, "to the left, to the left. Everything you own in the bag to the left".

AirMcNair, I will try to make it, sounds like a fun time. I was asked to use the area where they park at for some of the course(the field). I wish we could plant trees, or make other obstacles for the open holes, but they use it for concert and other parking and it is just too much for them to be removing for every event. Not to mention storm water and waste would have a fit disturbing the buffer zone any further. They wanted the course to be visible to the dinning customers as well as the tour bus when it passes by. In essence they wanted to see more activity in that area. We tried to use as many of the obstacles we could to break up those shots(3's semi tight wooded area, 5 over the creek, 8 next to the stage area, 16's magnolia, 15's telephone pole, 18's tree line) but it is still a field we realize. We used almost every bit of the area we could without having multiple trips up and down the mountain. The whole thing was set up in an attempt to bring some new golfers in from the crowd that already visit's fontanel. so, yes there are some easy shots...and it's not as challenging as..., but it was supposed to have elements that would appeal to most every golfer, noob and pro alike. We really hope we did that. But we realize not everyone is gonna love it.
