Selah Ranch... 1st ever perfect 5.00 in top 10?

I see this thread has turned into the usual "courses in my region rule, courses everywhere else suck, and I can accurately judge the latter by some amateur photography and some hole distances on a website rather than actually going there" pissing match.

In all honesty, Beaver Ranch didn't look that impressive until I actually went out and played it.

I really liked the only Houck-designed course I played (@ WR Jackson), and Selah may well be the best in Texas, but to present them as the best two courses in the world...I don't think so.

I've only given 1 5 star rating, and it's not even in the same state that I live it. It also happens to be in the top 5. Maybe if he thinks it's such a good course, he should get out there and take GOOD photos. The courses near me that I play and enjoy, I've taken photos for. Good, high quality photos, from the pad and the pin.

With that said, it looks like John Houck has taken the initiative and started to put up some quality photos, including removing the ones I've commented on, lol.

An it's not about non rich, non white, or whatever. I'm tired of seeing trash show up at courses everywhere that think they own the place and have no regard at all for the people there and/or the city that spent money and time into a park

My thought: Really? The top course in the world doesn't have concrete pads, plays across a road, past a garage, and RIGHT NEXT to a building? Really? Pfffftttt.

Yeah. I just went and looked at the new pictures and despite the fact that several holes are missing they generally look much nicer.

It's also worth pointing out that having a few par 3 holes doesn't make a course a pitch-and-putt. It's important for a course to have some 2able par 3 holes imo.

Right on!

They're called Chuckers and they are worthless and useless morons who crap where they play - IDIOTS (term used mainly because the internet will block what I really feel they should be labelled). Pay to play, and a hefty pay to play at that, will make a huge dent in limiting these type of people and these types of actions at any course, so specifically at Selah - cheers to those who do show up with respect and enjoy a throroughly excellent round! [I say that pay to play will only make a dent and not cure the chucker disease because of the numerous times I've played Highbridge (in the middle of nowhere and $10 a day) I've still seen trash all over]

Join in the battle against the diseased chuckers (follow my sig)...

Very well put.

Have you played it? Because now you sound like everyone else.

FWIW,no concrete pads because of the setting

A road? Yeah,his driveway..

Its a hangar,if you hit that, you blow at disc golf.

The other building is legit, but it kind of adds to the challenge, that hole is a great hole, downhill with the mouth of the woods pretty narrow makes for some fun shots.

Wait a minute, it's $20 a day to play that course?! Don't get me wrong, but isn't that kinda step? I mean $5 ya sure whatever, but 20!!

If you live near it and plan to play a bunch, then $20 a day may seem steep, I'm sure they'll get annual passes up and running. If you're travelling for a remote disc golfing weekend, then $20 for an entire day worth of discing (let's say 3 rounds at 3 hours each = 9hrs), equates to just over $2/hr - YOU CAN'T BEAT THATDEAL WITH A STICK. And most of you know you spend more than $2/hr swilling beers at the bar! I shelled out $60 at Phantom Falls to a great cause and Pauly a great host. I got 5 hours of disc golf fun, access to restrooms, water, beverages, 2 custom discs, great company, and dinner waiting as we completed our round - WHAT A DEAL!!!!!

I know what you mean about breaking and it down that way, and yes your right on that. It's just hard to swallow at first, and I don't even want to think of a yearly pass, I'm willing to bet it's well north of $300, and that's what only playing it 15 times? Add in a couple sweet discs, swag, or what have you then maybe I'd reconsider. Paying $20 for a round and getting a mini or a Dx disc I could see.

So you mean to tell me you dug up that same 'one picture' you have seen, copied the URL, put a post up, and complained about it INSTEAD of just taking a half hour to go through the course photos? Sheesh!

The point was that pictures can be misleading.

I went and played the tournament on sunday at Selah Ranch. This place is not just about great disc golf courses. These people have out done themselves in every way you can think of. Everything marked great, the grounds are amazing, the bathrooms and resting areas are amazing.

The courses are crazy. thats really the only way to put it. They're fair and real and real challenging. The up keep is amazing. The design is really really well thought.
These courses would be really tough with out the golf carts I gotta say, but to me the green fee's and the cart rental pricing is nothing to complain about especially if you go with atleast another person. Really really really well done place.

As has been said in other threads about Flyboy, it has to be experienced to be appreciated. Go play it, and you'll see why people love it so much.

I'm sure this is a great facility, but many of the reviews really aren't justifying why its 5 discs great. If this keeps up, Selah is going to be branded "the Flip City of the South".

A quick few things.

First off, I know some people who have been to the ranch, and have heard nothing but great things. I'm less than 2 hours away, so I'll probably plan a weekend trip sometime soon. For the services you get and the course, the green fees seem more than worth it.

Secondly.. Why is it that this thread is filled with haters who don't even live anywhere near Texas? You guys are taking this 5 star rating so personally, I'm halfway surprised some of you haven't rated the course a 1 without playing it.

Lastly, I'm 100% for nicer courses being pay-to-play. Recently the most layed back and chill area of my local course has been taken over by trashy loiterers who do nothing but sit at the DGers bench all day, writing on the bench with permanent marker and attracting cops. If Saleh was closer, I'd be getting a lifetime membership no matter the cost.
