I'll be looking to buy some new DG shoes in the near future (if I don't win the ebay auction for a $30 pair of Delas :D), and was wondering:

Has anyone used both the Keen Targhee 2 Mid and the Keen Delaveaga? Which did you prefer and why? Comparing them on Keen's website they seem almost the same, with the Dela perhaps getting the edge for durability on concrete. Also, the Dela has a synthetic upper while the Targhee has a leather, web and mesh upper. Which one seemed more water resistant? (I'll probably be wearing Sealskinz anyhow).

Thanks.

I have personally never like keens for disc golf. It might just be me but I never got good wet traction on the tee pads wearing them. In the past I have probably bought and abused 10 pairs of keen. Absolutely love the shoes just not a big fan of them for DG. With that said I am wearing these:

They are not waterproof but a can of kiwi waterproof spray from dicks sporting goods does the job. I'm on my fourth pair. I'm also one of the most picky people I know when it comes to shoes.

I've got both Targhee 2s (not mids) and Delas. This is my second pair of Targhees. First pair lasted me longer than just about any DG shoe I've used (over a year). I use the Delas exclusively for DG, and the Targhees now primarily as an every day shoe and occasional DG. Happy with both, although I think the Targhees have greater versatility.

I work construction and play dg everyday. Im in my third year with my targhee mids. Easily the best work shoe I've worn, and my feet have never been cold or wet. If I had to guess, id say il get 2/3 more years out of these.

Liking Delas

I have been wearing Delas for the past month and am very happy with them, they came as part of the Pro Worlds players pack.

I have been wearing them at Ryan Ranch (rubber tees) and CSUMB/Oaks, which has new concrete, and the concrete roughness varies from hole to hole.

They really seem to support my foot, and the thing I really like is that you can pull the laces tight all the way down to the toes, a lot of shoes, especially leather shoes, can give you a hernia trying to tighten the lacing down to the toes.

And at the end of a round, and the next morning, my feet feel fine, not taxed, which is a good sign.

I am 6' 3" and weigh 225, so a pretty good test for the shoes.

I have had the milo's and now the dela's and while i love them for dry weather the dont hold water out very well:doh: but i live in a temprate rain forrest. im thinking of sending them back for targee's ive had those in the past and they held up well here in humboldt county.

lol hes tlkn keens not opinions of other shoes, i swear people dont read

Thanks guy, I can read just fine. Was trying to be helpful by posting a suggestion on a really good DG shoe. Perhaps the OP never saw this shoe in his research??

Way to post something in this thread that doesn't help him at all and is negatively directed at someone other than the OP.

i said that because this thread is almost the exact same as the one i did about KEENS only and people responded with suggestions of other shoes. i realize there are other shoes yada yada yada, when the OP is asking for comparisons of 2 KEEN shoes, why bother suggesting about something that "DOESNT HELP HIM" in his thread.

its ok to whine about my posts, everyone else does.

to the OP, i have the delaveagas and love them. i think the difference in them is that the dela's are a once piece bottom. not sure on the targhees but i think theyre 2 piece. ive heard both good and bad about the targhee's but nothing but good about the dela's so far. only time will tell. i do know that i wore my delas for the first time yesterday and walked in water just to test the keen dry,my feet stayed dry and warm the whole day in muddy, water filled courses.

I guess if everyone has something bad to say about your posts you may want to rethink what you say. No need to be negative, if someone wants to add a suggestion let them. I'm sure if the OP had issues with that post he would have said so himself.

If you got all the info you need in the thread you started that's great but this is a new one and not everyone sits on DGCR and reads all the threads on here all day long. So for the rest of us it was helpful and I appreciate the suggestion.

This thread is Keen vs Keen.... dela vs targhee. The OP knows how to read, so im sure he can read posts in other threads about other shoes. It's funny that you add your two cents though, just to reassure us on your "know it all" personality. Just an fyi, there is about 40 shoe threads here on DGCR, in case the OP wants to know about other shoes.

The search feature is so helpful! Kind of reviving this old thread but I would like to know how good Keen Dela's are at holding out water? Are they really waterproof or just water resistant? Also, are they very sleek and not bulky? If so, I'm about to get a pair or 2. I just want them to hold out water, keep my toes dry, and not be bulky.

Keen reps actually recommended the Targhee II to me since they don't offer the Dela's in my size. I purchased them back in the summer and have been quite pleased with the shoe. They are a little heavy, but I believe you'll get that with any waterproofing. The shoes don't allow any water in below the tongue (obviously) and have held up well. I really don't have any complaints.

I went with the Targhee IIs because the mid height was the dealbreaker. I wore them golfing for the first time yesterday and was pleasantly surprised how well the waterproofing worked. I was nearly ankle deep in a puddle (my lie ) and my feet were still dry at the end of the round. Good thing too, since I had 2 more courses to hit yesterday :D

Patagonia... enough said.

FYI, Patagonia is the same as Merrell
