When will ESPN cover Disc Golf?

ESPN will put disc golf on TV when hot dog eating contests gets less popular.

Hot dog eating contests are only covered once a year, as I recall. July 4th, sponsored by Nathan's Famous (excellent hot dogs, by the way).

The real way that ESPN will start thinking about covering disc golf is to have a fan capture video of a 400 foot ace over a pond with wind blowing furiously, and then send it in to ESPN as a "Play of the Day" candidate. This video was on ESPN Plays of the Day a while back (although I don't know if this event was covered by ESPN or not...). THAT'S what disc golf needs, in my mind. Just a few teasers for the general public to say, "Hey, that was cool! Wait... there are some of those silly baskets at my local park; maybe I'll try that."

Now, if Aaron Rodgers and Bubba Watson come out and start pimping disc golf in their off-season... maybe some coverage would be forthcoming. Has anybody thought of inviting Mr. Rodgers to the Am Worlds as a special guest to participate in the pre-tourney driving or putting competitions? Or Mr. Watson to a big winter charity tournament before golf gets going?

Now that is an idea......

Now think carefully: ESPN either ruins or forever alters a sport once it sinks its claws in it.:wall: I don't know if I'm that interested in their attention.

ESPN barely plays soccer...disc golf is a long ways away. Unless you're talking about ESPN 8: The Ocho

In the rest of the world "soccer" is the #1 sport. In Europe they pack stadiums with over 100,000 hooligans to watch matches. DG tournaments have trouble getting over 100 spectators. Keep dreaming, dreamers.

Im am definitely against mainstreaming the game.
I think the best approach for tv coverage is the "on demand" channels. Id imagine that most discers that watch coverage arent watching at 2:00 pm on saturaday, more like 2am....or 7am.

On Sportsnation today they were doing a thing asking the voters to decide if Ultimate Frisbee participants are athletes. Michelle said yes, but Collin compared them to Frisbee golfers saying that we/they aren't athletes.

Anyone that says Ultimate or Disc Golf doesn't have athletes is plain ignorant. If we're not athletes, neither is Tiger Woods.

What do you expect from a guy whose last name is "coward" with an extra H in it?

I'd suggest Michelle shove a stiletto heel up his backside, but he'd probably be into that sort of thing.

honestly i wouldnt even want disc golf on ESPN. it would be great to have this amazing sport be publicized nationally, but ESPN is the biggest joke ever. they are the biggest east coast bias ever (i understand its in connecticut, but its supposed to be the nations sports channel), when not talking about ny/bos they are talking about la, have idiotic announcers/insiders who think they are world class analysts, focus on football 99% of the time (even if its hockey/baseball season, like now), and they would somehow try to put tim tebow into a disc golf convo. keep disc golf to the people who understand/love this sport for what it is.
