Upper Park Designs Backpack Bags

I'm interested in purchasing a new bag but I'm looking for something that will fit in a motorcycle hardbag. Could someone post dimensions of the Focus and Shift bags? If you could provide me with the dimensions of the bags empty and full of discs that would be great!

It doesn't seem so.

Hmm … not sure about that:

We will be offering all of our current customers a 30% discount to upgrade to the newer version of their bag. We are still working out the details (ie you cannot use the upgrade discount to buy the same version bag)

Could mean you can't use the discount to buy the same bag (bought v. 2 Shift, "updgrade" to another v. 2 Shift), could mean you only can upgrade to v. 3.0, or could mean you need to upgrade to a higher model (v. 2 Shift to v. 3 Rebel).

*Increased padding in the side walls to better hold shape when the bag is open

I think making this adjustment to the shift would help as well since the weight of the discs in the vertical slots tends to make the back side lean forward. My only complaint with the shift bag so far.

I keep a spare driver in each of the two inside mesh pockets for this exact purpose. Having a disc there doesn't impact my use of these pockets at all, it helps the bag keep its shape and it actually makes it easier to move discs into and out of the outside mesh slots.

^Truth. Works.

I've done this as well but you really only get access to a portion of the inside bottom of the bag doing this. I may mess around with mine and see if a slight mod would alleviate this issue. There is so much room yet I cannot get to that section easily due to the sagging.

Yup, same color options for this next run. We will be putting better pictures on our website to better detail the exact bag colors. While red has been one of the slower selling colors, we think it's one of the best looking! The website just doesn't do it justice.

Sadly, we knew this would happen. And we have been trying to come up with a solution! We will be offering all of our current customers a 30% discount to upgrade to the newer version of their bag. We are still working out the details (ie you cannot use the upgrade discount to buy the same version bag), but there will be a page dedicated to this upgrade program on our website. And yes, we will be monitoring upgrades to avoid people gaming the system.

Will I be able to upgrade my focus? I still have the version 1 and would LOVE to upgrade to a 2.0.

Upper Design Rebel 2.0

Is there an option to preorder the new rebel bag?

I went on your site and I did not see this option or any talk about the newer bags.

Do I just need to be patient?

Hello all! My partner and I have been in Vietnam for the last few weeks working with our factory. Things are moving along, just a month or so after we expected them to. As a small fish among North Face, Camelbak, and others, sometimes things are a little out of our control.

But bags are being made as we speak - and they look great! We are expecting the shipment to arrive in the states around 5/20/15. We are preparing for preorders now and should open them in the next week or two.

While I've got ya here.. I figured I could take this chance to let you know about the upcoming changes to the Shift and Rebel.

The Focus is pretty much perfected at this point. Any future big changes will simply result in a new product.

The new Shift:
  • Raised up the 3 vertical disc pockets for easier access to the bottom of the bag
  • Rebuilt the shoulder strap attachments for an inseparable seam
  • Added a D-ring to each side of the handle
  • Custom designed black rainfly included (will also be available for current Shift owners - $10)

The new Rebel:
  • Raised up the 3 vertical disc pockets. The bottom vertical pocket is now usable :)clap:)
  • Rebuilt the shoulder strap attachments for an inseparable seam
  • Better spaced shoulder straps for less "pinch" at the neck
  • Increased padding in the side walls to better hold shape when the bag is open
  • Increased feet spacing for even better standability
  • D-ring opposite the umbrella/chair strap
  • Black rainfly

Nothing too major, just tweaks. Id say adding the extra strength to the side walls of the Rebel is the biggest change. It really gives the bag a clean "finished" look at all times.

As always, let me know if you have any questions or comments! Time to get back to work :hfive:

Cheers,
Jon and Hobie

Ughhh. Just bought my Rebel a few weeks ago and got my first round in about a week ago. Very happy to see some of the upgrades, just wished i would have held off a bit longer. Overall I am still extremely happy with the bag and with the latest updates it will be just that much better.

Thanks for the protip.

I agree with this as well. Something to stiffen up the Shift sides just a bit would make a big difference. Another thing that would be great is if there was some material or netting or something to tuck the main flap in when its open. It kinda gets in the way a bit in the main compartment and takes up valuable storage space.

All in all though it's a great bag

I actually just drape it over the front and have it lean on my tall glass water bottle. A neat trick I found when I do that is that you can actually use the "inner" part of the front zipper pocket as another pseudo-pocket. In the two tournaments i've used the Shift in, I put the scorecard, caddy book and PDGA rules book in that "pocket" so its always out in the open and easy to access. It works wonderfully!

I may post pics later so people can see what i'm talking about as it may be a little confusing to understand.

Well I went ahead and did it right after and so here's pics for those that aren't too good with just words like I am.

Love the fact that the Rule book is almost impossible to miss so that my round mates know that I'll bring it out when things get a little touchy. Of course if it's raining I won't have this setup but it sure is nice on the good weather days!

I too wish my Shift would stand a little straighter. It still droops even with the discs in the inside mesh pockets, although not as much. It makes it harder to get discs in & out than it should be.

Still though, I love my Shift.

Wish I could get my hands on a big 2 or 3 foot wide UPD logo sticker for the back glass of my truck. It's a cool logo.

Well I cut some plastic board and made slip in panels for the inner mesh sides. Getting items in and out of my shift is way easier now. The images may not show the difference it makes. The panels are slightly wider than a disc but not by much. Rough dimensions listed as well.

That looks like what I was thinkng about doing for my bag. You've given me the push to go ahead & do it. Now I've just got to track down some material.

What are the differences of the 1.0 and 2.0 focus bags?? I bought a 2.0 focus a few months ago and I've been really pleased with it. I'm curious to hear why you guys want the newest one.

Will I be able to upgrade my focus? I still have the version 1 and would LOVE to upgrade to a 2.0.

Yes! Absolutely. We want you to have the best we offer.

We are still working out the process for supplying our customers with their upgrade code. It needs to be a process that requires little to no manual labor so as we continue to grow it doesn't become a full time job in and of itself.
