Charlotte Park and Rec Youth League

Getting Local Parks & Rec dept behind youth leagues sounds like a great way to grow the sport. Hope it goes well!

"We are excited to announce our first ever Yout Disc Golf League!"

Is Joe Pesci running this thing?

wow. that is sweet. A league, run by the Parks dept. are their any other citiesn that can say that?

This is great Stan!! Do you need any help from us local charlotte people's? I would like to volunteer some free time for this great cause!

I'll help at veteran's park.

I helped Cornelius and Huntersville/Davidson run a youth camp last year 1 Week Bailey, 1 Week Bradford. Made some good money for the club (paid for the 2 new holes) and club members I paid to teach the kids ~$10/hr.

We are doing 2 weeks again this year June and July. Amazing what parents will pay to get rid of their kids for 4 hrs for a week :). I hope this turns into more local courses.

We, the Charlotte Disc Golf Club, have offered to assist with volunteers when MCPR holds a clinic for beginners. Kramer will send out email balsts for volunteers to club members when those clinics are scheduled. Other than that, this is park planned and park run. Crossing our fingers for a successful first season.

I asked them to add Bailey Rd (nevin and bradford too) to the list of courses. Bailey should be the destination for the northern beginners.

I also asked them to remove Veterans and to use spell check.

Back in the mid 90s I was asked to spend one week teaching 'Frisbee' sport to a summer sports camp in Union, SC. We taught DDC, Ultimate, Discathon, Self Caught Flight, Accuracy, Distance and Disc Golf. I had 6 hours a day for one week.

I've thought about getting with my local park & rec to do this but I know that I'd be the lead person and don't know if I can afford the time. I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing more.

^If you do that again Sadjo... I'll come down and teach Freestyle.

Yea the Reedy Creek group was small but we had a good time. Love the idea to have this league!

I played in the 16-18 division this morning. It went really well. I kinda regret not signing up for advanced, though...

My daughter played in this league at Reedy Creek this morning. She absolutely loved it and played really well for her first time ever playing all her shots and playing all 18 holes. She can't wait till next week! Props to Mecklenburg Parks and Rec and much thanks to Mark aka Skinnylimbs for the extra time he spent teaching her after the round. She will be much improved next week.

This is good to hear that the kids are having fun and learning the sport.

This will grow our sport in a positive way!

Elon had about 16-18 total kids show up I think -- with my daughter being the only girl. I think there were more registered but with some no-shows.

I think this was a great beginning for the park's youth league. I hope this will grow to where we have the need for more beginner courses. That could push the park department to let us put more beginner courses in town.
