2013 USADGC - June 7-9 - Toboggan, MI

FINE. Is this a family vacay for you? Need a lodging partner?

Or does anyone else need a hotel roommate for a few days?

My dad is paying for the hotel... He said he would come if it was just me. I dont think he appreciated having to deal with a "girl" last year. I'm staying at the Novi Inn and Suites... $79.99 a night with a pool and breakfast. Not sure if I could talk him into anything. We'll need to get dinner a night or 2 though.

This place.
The only way to properly describe it is with curse words... So amazing.

I had a ham egg cheese spinach one for breakfast, I think my girlfriend and dad had some crazy chit with bananas, chocolate, chocolate chips, and other amazing things.

Got a sweet tooth? Our Sweet crêpes come with scoops of ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate drizzle, and powdered sugar. Some Nutella, caramel, brown sugar, and fresh fruits will place a smile on your face.

I wasn't going to impose - I was just curious about your arrangements.

Rendezvous looks splendid. And I am totally in for a dinner or two.

I like the pool and hot tub after a long day on the slopes. Relax all those old muscles. Can grab snacks from the breakfast for lunch too. Last year by the time we started (last card) the free water and snacks on the course were pretty much gone. It was a hot one last year. I liked having a snack handy.

Breakfast isn't a huge deal for me. I'm a CLIF bar / Powerbar, fruit, and water kind of guy come tourney time. Is the registration page supposed to be super slow, or is this flood sweeping by harrying my Interwebz?

There's a chance I will have room for a few people at my parents house. Their house is roughly 25 minutes from the course. They will be out of town for the weekend. Worst case scenario is there will be plenty of room for a tent if they aren't thrilled will randos in their house. There's a fire pit and plenty of room to park. I will run it by them..

Okay, again I ask... is anyone else having trouble with the online registration for this? The "Checkout" button seems to completely lock me out. The site has been trying to connect to the checkout screen for about an hour...

I am playing the great lakes the weekend before this tourney. For am nats though I have no one from the area i'm going with to get a hotel. If anyone possibly wants to split a hotel to save some cash let me know im coming from illinois weds or thursday latest.

Excited for my second trip to am nats. Haven't been there since 09 and psyched to have another chance at that course.

Just to let everyone know if you are rated 920+ you can register for USADGC. There were roughly 30 spots open last night.

last year the lowest was 940 to be invited I thought (you could qualify lower rated). Odd.

thanks for the update, im pretty sure i registered. is there a list of registered players? why was the required rating lowered this soon? arent there a couple more qualifying tourneys?

Bill,
It was lowered to eliminate the stress of running a last chance qualifier and have people lie about their score just to get in and slow the whole round down. That and we want to get as many people, 920+, a better chance to qualify since some places, Hawaii, don't have a B tier event that they have as a qualifier. Usually the website gets updated twice a week and there were a couple tournaments where people are going to be added: Gratiot County and Firefighters Classic.

got out for some practice yesterday and shot fairly well aside for two bad holes(damn that is some rough rough). the course is looking great and there were a lot of people out there enjoying it. every year i look forward to getting out on this amazing course and even though im beat after every round i want to throw a few more holes. holes 1-2-3 have to be the best starting holes in disc golf that i know of. i could throw my whole bag on #3 but i refrain. gonna try to get back out tomorrow midday if the weather isnt sucky. anyone is welcome to join up.

Yeah, I tried to play yesterday and today. I even got there really early today. Hopefully it will actually be playable on weekdays. At least you'll probably avoid the several casual groups of 10-15 people who literally refuse to let you play through to your face and threaten to beat your ass when you walk ahead of them.

wow man that sucks, i didnt experience any crappy people out there although most of the people i ran into were people i knew. we were able to play through one group(john the TD and some other old timers, lol) but waiting is to be expected on this course. you should plan on setting aside 4 hours to play this course when you go. just enjoy the course and the day.

If that is the case please call the tournament staff and we will get it taken care of. If we don't know about it there isn't anything we can do about. I will be out there tomorrow.

The best idea I came up with yesterday was to come back today before 9am to try to avoid the nonsense, which began on hole 3 :| It was taking more than 45min to play the first 3 holes. The groups were losing discs left and right and then started threatening each other. At the road between 7 and 8 I waved down the Metropark police as they were cruising by. I guess I could have looked up how to contact tournament staff when I got back to my car, but I decided at hole 5 to just hike the rest of the course without stopping for any of the groups. I was dead tired and had another hour and a half drive ahead of me and didn't think about it. My bad.

A bunch of other golfers and I talked about the problems as I was stepping off the course. The Toboggan is just a free for all. Literally. It's free to play, so people play that instead of Locust. A few ideas were thrown around... Charge $10 or more for a Toboggan pass for the season, limit the size of groups, have someone on a Gator cruise the course... I don't know. I'll try again next year :)
