World, Sorcerer, Harp, Hatchet

Anyone have any advance knowledge of these new bad boys? All that is on the Westside site at the moment is that the World and Sorcerer are both distance drivers, the Harp is a putter, and the Hatchet is a control driver.

Pure speculation incoming, all guesswork:

One of the distance drivers (World/Sorcerer) will be a decently overstable, roughly 11 speed disc. I'm thinking around a Pulse/Crush/Avenger range. Something to fill whatever gap is between a Giant/King/Boatman/Stag. More US Giant, More OS Boatman, Slower King, Faster Stag. 11/5/-1/4.

The other distance driver will be a warp speed majorly understable disc. Think around a Vulcan/Nuke SS/TD Rush/Avenger SS. Something to be more extreme than the Underworld/Northman. More US than the Northman, Faster than an Underworld. 13/4/-4/2

The Harp is fairly safe to bet as an overstable putter. Their only current putter is extremely understable. Other brands have hugely successful max OS putters. Think Rhyno/Zone. I'm thinking it won't be that extreme. Something around a Challenger/big bead Aviar. I love the Swan as my main putter, but as the company's only available putter, there is a major hole in their lineup there. 3/3/-1/3.

The Hatchet I'm guessing to fill the middle stability gap left by the Northman/Warship/Stag/Underworld. Slower than a Northman, Faster than a Warship, More OS than an Underworld, More US than a Stag. Think around a Vision/Stalker/FD Jackal. Then again they may be releasing an extremely OS utility disc like a Flick or a Firebird. 8/6/-1/2

Partially my speculation is what would either fill in gaps for Westside or fulfill popular wants from Disc golfers, and partially these are my own hopes as discs that I would be interested in trying.

These are all good ideas. My question is this: Is Westside filling out their lineup in the context of their lineup, or in the context of the entire Lat/WS/DD family? That could make a big difference in what they release.

Just looking at where the discs land on the Marshall Street guide, I could peg WS for pulling an OS 12 speeder, between the Sword and the Boatman. I'll agree that a speed 11-12 understable offering is a hole that needs to be filled.

An OS putter would do well in the family, and I suspect it'll be beaded. An overstable Judge, maybe? I guess that would put it more in the Wizard category that way, but I think OS is the way to go.

As for the control driver, that one is hard to call. There are so many discs in that family already, but I am going to go with something like an OLF.

Whatever they put out, I am sure they will be solid, and the art is always cool. I am definitely a Westside fan.

The Boatman is plenty overstable, so if anything, they should have a more neutral speed 11 flyer. Something between the Boatman and Northman. Also, I think that the King would be their understable warp speed, but by the flight numbers they give it, Westside clearly doesn't think it's understable.

The hatchet should be speed 10 and be overstable. I'd like to see 10/5/0/4 because my Stag doesn't fly like a 0/3 it's more like a -1/2 and it would be nice to have something a little more overstable than the striker.

Many Westside flight ratings are hugely misleading (I'm looking at you King and Stag) King is definitely more US than the -1/4 suggests. I carry 2 and think of them as more similar to a Havoc or so. Not nearly as flippy as Vulcan/Nuke SS, but they both have way more turn than their -1 rating suggests. Around a -2/3 maybe. The Stags I've felt are not 0/3 at all. Closer to -3/3.

As for Westside looking to fill out their disc lineup among the whole Euro family with Lat and DD, that is more analyzing gaps than I care to wrap my little brain around at the moment, lol.

The stamps are cool. Sorcerer is pretty typical, The Harp has a nice mellow feel to it, the Hatchet has a sweet background that would make a nice shiny stamp, and the World is a sweet concept and looks great.

Now that I've seen all the stamps and names in finnish(again strongly related on finnish mythology) my guesses would be:
World: more stable King
Sorcerer: more stable Northman
Harp: os fast swan
Hatchet: os utility fairway

Thanks for posting this! I hadn't yet heard about next year's releases. They're a helluva long ways away, unfortunately. :p

I would love to see a FD/TL type of driver from Westside - there's definitely a gap between the Stag and the Underworld - but "the Hatchet" does ooze "utility OS disc." Although alternatively, I can see them interpreting "hatchet" as a workhorse tool and associating it with a workhorse driver. Something with lots of HSS and minimal fade would be an awesome compliment to their current fairways. "Control driver" could mean a bit faster, though, as in Northman territory.

I do feel that Westside's releases up unto this point have for the most part tried to avoid stepping on Lat 64's toes - even the recent fairways seem slotted to avoid Lat staples, as the Underworld is more US than the River and the Stag is more OS than the Saint. Earlier releases like the Boatman and Swan also seem to compliment Lat's lineup well. But it's getting harder and harder to avoid overlap at this point.

Edit to add: I would totally jump on a OS fairway driver if they offered it in base plastic. I just love being able to have a base plastic disc (Banshee) in my bag for shots over water and other times when I want to throw something inexpensive that I'm not too attached to.

The problem with base plastics from Europe is that they arent so cheap after the extra shipping from overseas. And Westside already makes drivers in basic but they are only in supermarkets over there. Not sure if base plastic will ever make it over here from Westside.

I would hope for a OS putter without a bead, maybe give my Jokeri some competition.

Why so far away. A big fan of Westside. Let's just hope they don't get things more crowded for the lat/dd/westside fairway drivers. I personally think it is a jumbled mess of similar speed 9 fairway drivers that they currently have. A new putter would be great and an o/s fairway would be great. The stag is a great disc but not o/s.

Most of my bag is lat/DD/WS the huge gaps are Teebird and PD like discs. I think they should make a straight disc that barley chips at the end when pros throw it. The striker is to US and the Trident is to OS. Also i wish they would make a zone kind of disc something that is fast for a putter but so overstable it still flies the same distance as a putter. I am also hoping one will be a max distance driver. The only max distance driver from the lat family i like is the giant and it is not that usable. Its great for hyzers but not straight shots.

YES:hfive:

BT Boatman was my first disc ever(soon after replaced by s-p2), but the thing here in finland(what I've seen) is that they sell westside base plastic(BT) only in supermarkets, and for silly prices. You can get a tournament version with the same price. Hope they change this.

What is this magical world where they sell high quality golf discs in supermarkets? :D

Westside has taken me by storm this year based on the Warship and the Underworld. Happy to see more designs in the hopper, even if only the Hatchet and the Harp would likely fit my style.

The Harp is going to have to be tried. I have too much faith in Westside to not try their new putter.

I'll try and trade up for a Hatchet at some point if I can be patient enough. Only way I wouldn't be at least curious to try it is if it is US like a River or more extreme.

The 2 drivers would have to be something special. I'm pretty set on my driver selection. Although the World stamp is sick and is begging to be thrown. I WANT TO THROW THE WORLD!
