The ROC is an amazing disc. Seriously...I am an idiot. I like to "find my own way" and not be part of the bandwagon. I stopped in a store the other day and saw a box of R-Pro Rocs sitting there and finally decided it was time to try one, as my Sharks are all so understable now that I can't put much power on them.

I decided to take a 2nd tee shot with my Roc most of the day yesterday to see how it flies and get a good feel for it. Basically, it does what I tell it too. The bad news is that I don't always get my body to do what I tell it to, so I released it late at full power. It nailed a nice mature oak tree and literally crushed the rim. I was shocked that the R-Pro would bend like this, but at the same time, it hit pretty freaking hard. Now I have a nice wobbly Roc and will be headed to the store for a new minty-fresh Roc.

Someone smack me for not listening in class.:wall:

I'm surprised you've been playing 12 years and haven't tried a Roc. You only used Sharks this whole time?

Nobody ever told you that the Roc was an amazing disc or that R-Pro isn't very good at taking tree hits?

I just grabbed a couple DX Rocs myself. I want to beat one in but can't hit a tree with a Roc for the life of me. Any other disc? Nothing but tree hits. The Roc is just like "NOPE"

The Roc IS a great disc, nobody can argue that.

But I am surprised you chose to buy your first one in R-pro plastic, which, in my opinion, is easily Innovas worst plastic.

Take my advice with a grain of salt, as I don't throw Rocs, but my Buddy carries 3 rocs and he's pretty lethal with his setup, and he has - a Star San Marino Roc, a fresh KC pro Roc, and a beat in Marshall Street flattened top DX Roc.

Keep the mold if you like it, steer away from that plastic, except for putters

If no one told you that the Roc was an amazing disc then you just weren't listening.......

As for the tree hit just bend it back it'll be just fine....

There's something kinda strange about a person who's been playing for over a decade aain't never thrown a Roc...

As a thrower of R-Pro plastic, I can vouch for the fact that it's the least durable plastic on the market - it even looks up at DX on the durability scale (100% serious).

If you want a Roc in a more durable plastic, try one in KC Pro plastic. It'll have greater stability initially, but it should season wonderfully. I can also see a beat-in DX plus a newer KC Pro being a very well balanced one-two punch (US/OS midrange combo).

I personally cycle Rocs, the Roc is the best Mid mold I've used to date. Mist people I know or have met who throw Rocs prefer KC Pro & DX plastic over R-Pro. R-Pro is less durable than DX/KC & some R-Pro Rocs are plus molds (which I hate). Just pick-up a DX Roc they're cheap & if you don't like the dome get a flat top Roc, they're amazing.

Going it on your own can be a much slower process.. If i did that I wouldn't be anywhere near as far along as I am today.

I started playing 12 years ago and have only thrown a Roc twice. Two total throws. I just don't like the way it feels in my hand, and HATE all the different molds out there. Of course, I prefered Eagles to Teebirds too, and now have 4 Teebirds and only 1 Eagle in my stack/bag, so things may change someday. For now though, Rocs just seem like too much work.

...but you tried it, even if for no other reason than to see what all the noise was about.
So it wasn't your cup of tee, you're not alone. I don't have one in my bag, but I did for a while and I'm quite familiar with them. And I totally get what you mean about the seemingly endless varieties: San Marino, Ontario, Rancho, flat top, Classic, Ching, bling, ming, spring... it can be a bit overwhelming.

It is not too much work to pick up a regular DX Roc and throw it. But if you don't like em you don't like em

Lets not get into this conversation again, Rocs really aren't that complicated, just do a little research. Most Rocs nowadays are Rancho anyway.

Sorry guys, the title is tongue-in-cheek. I've known about the Roc for a long time, but have really ignored the importance of a good controllable midrange. I'm ordering some KC Pro Rocs today, that's for sure!

I didn't really know much about R-Pro plastic, but I do now and it's never going to be purchased again. I've never seen a bead absolutely collapse on one side, like this did. I've taco'd a bunch over the years and just bend back and carry on. This one might be a loss.

"rocs are really not that complicated" -- Probably THE most retooled/designed, molded, changed whateverrrrrrrrrrrrr the heck you want to say in DG history.

But yeah, just get a Roc not all that complicated. JUST a couple to chose from...

Top two comments:

What about the San Marino and Ontario rocs?

Dave, tell us about the different molds of Roc please, not just different plastics

McBeth had an R-Pro Roc in his bag for a little while. He used it for touchy upshots.

Do yourself a favor and go buy a brand new dx roc and watch it slowly change over time. It's a beautiful thing.
