Distance honesty....honestly.

How honest are you really in claiming how far you can huck a disc online?

I'd like to make one thing clear, if I may: there IS a difference between farther and further. When comparing the distance thrown relative to another disc, you say one went farther than the other since it's a measurable distance. Further is used when expressing an immeasurable distance, for example, "I need to look into a subject further." I hear people on the course all the time using further to relate one throw to the other and I figured that since this thread is about distance, I'd try to make the grammatical error known to everyone in hopes of one day, eradicating the word from its improper use.

Seeing as how you're new around here, I'll let you in on something---no one cares about minor grammatical errors. Including your mistaken use of punctuation marks.

Now if you'll excuse me, since my reality is only 325'-350', I need to go look into throwing my discs further.

. These things are only there to keep the honest people honest. Criminals and liars are going to do what they do and say what they say regardless of the "rules."

.

Nemmers, I feel like I have pretty good reading comprehension. But I believe in this instance you've mixed some concepts that leads to my confusion.

Requiring folks to register guns has nothing to do with your premise of "only there to keep honest people honest."

Glad to hear you're a Libertarian.

In case some of you can't find it, there's a Politics board under the Water Cooler section for you to get up on your soapbox and give your $.02 about how ideologically superior you are to everybody else.

Let's keep this one focused on disc golf politics please.

I think you may have some reading comprehension issues also.

Who claimed any superiority? We was just clarifying the OP.

And in case we can't find the water cooler, how about a link. I can't find it. :)

My max is 450ft but I know I can always hit 400ft on any day. I don't lie a lot on here. I may of said 500ft a few times but that's because I've thrown 500ft but it may or may not have been thrown on a downward slope.

No soapbox needed. Never implied 'my ideological superiority'. Even animals have common sense. If I wanted to post about politics I would. I was merely making POLITE conversation with a fellow golfer. Would you like to pre-approve my future posts to make sure they maintain that 'healthy perspective' that comes with a Duck Dynasty mentality?

Sounds to me like we're members of the same gulag scarp.

How is it that there is always a thread on everyone lying about how far they throw. Why do these people automatically assume everyone is lying. I mean seriously. There are thousands of people that play disc golf. The most dedicated are always members of forums. The most dedicated are usually the more skilled of the community.

What if everyone on her can actually throw what they say they can throw? Why do some of us always have to feel like there's no way that many people are that much better than them?

so it appears that about 65 pecent don't lie about their distance and id stretch and say the 16 percent who dont feel people care about their distance are honest about their distance as well, since they are already honest with themselves that we don't care how far they throw....which is an approximate total of 84 percent of dgcr users participating in this poll that dont lie about about how far they throw..../end thread

How do you measure? As the crow flies? Straight line? Tee sign? When the disc first hits the ground, or where it comes to rest?

i go by football fields (i pace off after the end zone as best as i can; stride being about 3 feet) and by tee signs, but i've always had a suspicion that tee signs are not always accurate, as is the case for oakwood here in MN. thanks to tom from everyday disc golf for remeasuring.

but truth be told i really don't care to lie because i'm always trying to throw farther and more accurately anyway. i'm not satisfied; why would i try to say i am?

anyway, the whole thing doesn't really matter IMO.

Mostly I'm wrong because of hole distances. On more or less flat open holes I've gotten w/in 40' of a "390" so I say things like "I'm averaging around 350" but then I come up short more often than not on a "336" so I guess it's only 310...

We've yet to find a park willing to mow and mark a 500' flat field for us. ;_;

Those wheels work great on smooth surfaces, but exaggerate distances on bumpy/hilly ground. A buddy of mine is reworking an unpopular local course, and with a rangefinder he said some holes were off by as much as 50'. It was originally measured with a wheel on really hilly glacier-shaped land.

it's interesting when people pace stuff out as measurements. Most people assume their stride is 3 feet. That means in 10 strides, you'd have walked 10 yards or 30 feet.

way back when i first started, i assumed my stride was the same, till one day i was walking across a football field, and i noticed it took me 15 strides to walk 10 yards. FWIW, i'm 5'10", have a 32" pant legs and wear 10.5 shoes.

I went to Lowes the next day and bought a 100ft tape to take with me to the practice field, then started coming here to the technique forum.

On a seperate note, I always seem to estimate my putting distances way shorter than they are. So if i'm actually 15 feet out, it feels like it's really a 10 foot putt. Or 30 feels like 25. I wonder if that has to do with reach/lean and the basket radius?

there is a difference between fairway distance and line of sight distance. We've measured our fairways here with a wheel, rolling it down the most obvious flight path. So yeah that distance will vary with a range finder pointed from teepad to basket.

I was in marching band for four years (I know, Band Geek). We typically marched "6-to-5" which meant 6 strides for 5 yards, or 2.5' per stride. This can be a little short for an adult man, but I'd guess that most men don't have a 3' stride. I am 6'1" and find that 2.5' is still pretty close for me.

i have measured my stride so that i can easily find the putting circle im 3ft so i count my steps from time to time just to get a ruff estimate of how far i can throw a certain disc. My buzzz i am anywhere from 250 to 300 on a regular basis. My drivers can b anywhere from 330 to 400ft it is all how much i have been practicing lately. Also i am working throught a little issue know as swing your out wide for no reason and lose all your distance on your drives. i dont do it with my mids or putters. Anyone have any tips for a person that is frustrated?

i have no reason to lie about my distance. and there are active people on this forum who would throw it in my face if I did lie. and in actuality I can throw farther then what I claim...but not consistently or accurately so it doesn't count.
