Disc Golf in the News

Probably my favorite part of that article:
Fortunately for Green, doctors said that he has a good chance of beating his cancer especially given his age and healthy lifestyle.

"It's one of the most treatable cancers thank god," Green said.

This article is over a year old, but paints a positive picture about disc golfers volunteering to do the grunt work to install a great course.

This course is a bit removed from the metro area and not well known locally, but I don't think it's going to fly under the radar much longer. It's a well designed, well executed, championship caliber course on a splendid piece of property.

Good job breaking your 10 month review sabbatical and raising the bar pretty high on Will Bendik! Well written and to the point.

Nice touch thanking the Bendik family, really incredible they chose to make such a large donation of the land to honor and remember their son! <3

Thank you. Some of my reviews are just too freakin' long. I tried to be more concise.

Pretty sure The Bendiks put up the money for the tees, baskets, signs, kiosk, and any equipment, etc., but that it's the park's property. Still a generous donation and, in the video, they said their son enjoyed the game.

It is interesting and presented clearly. Anyone know why paul Ulibarri was not included?

Local sports radio was talking about disc golf. One guy has friends who play. Other guy said "As a real golfer, it's hard to take seriously. It's like someone saying you like bowling. Want to go play some skeeball?"

Ouch!

Pretty standard sports radio talk.

The local sports DJs in Raleigh did the same thing. And I just kept tweeting them over and over about how much good the sport does, etc. And this summer, they came out and played with me and another local pro and did a story about it on the radio and the website.

Just gotta be persistent and positive. Pretty soon after someone tries our sport they land on the same thing we did - this is fun - just not at the same time.

I saw a comment by Justin Thomas about Tiger who he said was always grinding, sometimes calling him at 3am asking, "What you doing, JT? I'm just taking a break from lifting." He went on to say that Tiger did all of his fitness and strength training to give him more legitimacy as an athlete playing golf in comparison to athlete friends in other sports like Roger Federer. So even some "real golfers" have an inferiority complex in the sports world which provides their rationale to put down disc golf which is likely seen by them as even less of a sport.

Silly reference, but it worked. You remembered it.

I would remember anything they said because Common Man and T-Bone never reference disc golf. They also talked about paper football but I was looking for an excuse to act outraged about skeeball. Paper football isn't the same.

I could always tell ball golf is the better, more serious sport since it's at least 10x as expensive and less than half as fun.

That's the thing-if you want to just think of DG as a recreational activity, and go out and throw 300' max smacking random trees along the way, you can. Go have fun.

Or you can watch 50 sidewinder videos and try to fathom the complex aerodynamics and body mechanics involved when someone as diminutive as Paige smashes a disc 500'.

Or try your best to understand how Simon, Eagle and others can get that piece of plastic to go 650', seemingly as effortless as your grunt and expletive laden 300' drives.

Or watch as James Conrad runs 30' full speed sideways and pipes one 450' through a gap you couldn't shoot an arrow through.

Or watch Paul and Ricky or these days Gannon and Isaac drain more 50' putts than they miss.

THEN you realize yeah, this IS a sport.
