Does any one here do wieght training or workouts that are meant to help you play disc golf?

I haven't worked out in years, and am feeling the need to try it again, and I would like to improve my game at the same time I got a little more fit if I can.

There is this:

Although, I was laughing like Beavis when I read the instructions at first:
Grip the balls, one in each hand. Adjust the tension using the center knob to a light resistance. While holding the machine horizontal to the ground, twist the balls in opposite directions as far as you can. Tighten the knob to increase resistance. By modifying the position of your hands on the balls, you can work all 6 motions of your wrist. Find the position on the balls that allow you to duplicate the precise movement of your swing movement.

IMO, there's nothing speical you need to do other than normal, all-around fitness type stuff. Working specific muscles might help you slowly gain incemental bits of distance if you already throw far, but otherwise just being in better shape with more flexibility will help as much as anything.

The butterfly would seem like a good excercise for Forehand guys or really any bicep and chest.

for backhand id think youd wanna build up your shoulder muscles

If you pick up the Summer Issue of discgolfer magazine, put out by the PDGA, they have a whole workout routine put together by one of the pros that is specifically intended to help you throw further.

Personally I started going to Pilates classes with my old parents who try and stay in shape. Good Family time and I get a workout that helps with strength and flexability. Has to be good for the game.

Try yoga. It will help with flexibility, balance and core strength.

I agree. I like getting a quick stretch in before i play. I always play and feel better when my muscles are warm. also, I try to start off with some putting or light drives before busting out a round.

yoga is an intersting thought. I have tried it once or twice before. It is a lot harder than it looks and one helluva workout.

there is alot of stuff u can do. yoga would be an easy option since u can just buy a video. If you want weight training u should do a program with emphasis on back, shoulder, chest (back and chest should be done evenly or it can hurt your posture). I could give u a great workout if u have any bench and dumbells...but too much to type here. If you have a bench and dumbells give me pm.

Or check out a couple months of mens health,,,,alot of good info on weight training that u can start asap.

gl whatever u do.

Personally, I would stay away from bulking up. I think sleek, agile and flexible would be your goals.

I do a morning routine that has faster transitions and has more balance workouts. Then do night routine that has more relaxing and stretches before bed. 10-15 mins max.

i don't do any weight training, but i do have a Nintendo wii with wii fit and some of those yoga exercises are intense. so my suggestion is yoga or pilates

You core (ie. lower back and stomach), and your shoulders.

Core strength and flexibility is key, legs also generate a lot of power, upper body strength doesn't matter as much most people think.
