2014 Glass Blown Open

I'm sure that if disc golfers were willing to pay for media services, then these would be reasonable demands :)

Equal length video production, even at this level of ability, would range from about 3-7k I'd assume. Three full-time days of video, post-production, travel, equipment, and per-diem. How much we truly do take for them granted.

You, I like you.

For record we (CCDG) recorded the last two days of the FPO lead card. I'm going to bust my butt to get them out to you guys as soon as I can. A full time job and a 6 month old boy don't exactly help things, but I'll do what I can. I'm almost done with the Wintertime Open vids, and that'll be my next editing project. Hopefully I can get it done before we head to Masters Cup next weekend. I'm hoping to put out next day vids for that one. We plan on filming MPO and FPO lead cards all 3 days. Well the first day we'll just have to pick the big name cards, but the last 2 days it's lead card time.

That's awesome. This town does really seem to get disc golf fever that week each year. CC course can be rough especially if you've never played it. The win your card discs was new this year and that's really awesome they did that. Hope you can make it back next year. Did you get a chance to eat at Radius Brewing Company and try some of their beer?

Radius was awesome! Tried a sampler and then enjoyed a full glass of the double IPA. Meant to grab a growler before we left town but spaced it.

Two of my buddies won the bring a friend promotion from disc golf answerman and we all mentioned on our way out of town that we are doing everything we can to get back next year. Loved the courses, loved the town, can't wait to get back. :) Kudos to everyone who put on this event.

I had a chance to watch Lizotte, McBeth, Koling, and Feldberg tear up Jones East. That course has humbled me since installation, but they made it "look easy".

DD has had a wonderful impact on the town in many ways. I think my favorite benefit has not been the course improvements both in Emporia and the surrounding area. The real benefit hit me as I observed more than a couple grandfathers bringing their kids in to watch (and be inspired by) some GREAT golfers.

I think the double IPA is my favorite it's got a high ABV. I enjoy the stout and porter too. Really I only disliked the wheat and I think that's because I'm such a big fan of Boulevard unfiltered wheat that I judge everything else harshly.

Would you ever consider outsourcing the editing to someone else on the forums? Then just get the vids sent back for the commentary?

It's not easy to do. HD footage is huge.

For reference:
My USDGC shoot = 600GB
My TX States shoots = 100GB
My Memorial shoots = 125GB

It's hard to transfer that much footage, log and capture, cut, and transfer back final cut on a quicker turnaround than just doing it yourself (or paying an editor to come with you)

Since I started shooting disc golf I think I have about 1.5-1.7TB of footage across various drives XD

Drives/cards with raw footage can be overnighted to editors and then mailed back normally after the edit. We do this all the time when we have hundreds of GB of footage from live events/productions that needs to be processed quickly and can't be done on site.

Sometimes the 'old fashioned' is the best way.

I'd be willing to do some editing for anybody if needed. After sitting in a studio all day editing I usually don't feel like touching a timeline when I get home, but if it means we can get some quicker footage out...

Appreciate the hard work on the videos. Was that a smile at Jerm from Mcbeth after hitting that putt on 16 (min 32 final round).

Personally, if I was the entity doing all the videoing, I wouldn't want anyone else editing my footage unless they worked on my team, or I had a relationship with them in the first place.

That being said, cutting up video (for just straight round footage) is the thing I like doing the least. I much prefer taking/editing photos.

Professional sports camera ops are pretty used to their footage being handed off to random editors. Part of the natural creative process and workflow.

Not to mention... cutting raw DG video doesn't require much of a 'creative eye'. Each cut is pretty self-explanatory. Its not like cutting '2001' or 'The Godfather.'

You're assuming that pro camera operators actually own the entire programming. Which is what "we" basically do at this level.

CDSB, CCDG, SpinTV, MurderMike, JOMEZ, my own little venture, etc etc. We put in all the leg work, bought our own equipment, do the travelling, do the video, do the editing etc.

Now, if we "hire" a guy to take video, then yeah, they'll send it to us. That's essentially what you are stating there. But I would not want what I shot to be edited by a random 3rd party. As they may not know how I want to present some things. It's more than just copy/paste/edit/send back.

Im willing and able... Ive got the time and the software/hardware. I'd say I have probably watched 90% of your vids more than once so I don't think I'd have any trouble replicating what you have been putting out ;)

Transferring the data back and forth could take some arranging but if it gets the vids out quicker it could be worth it. PM and let me know what you think.

Yeah, because whoever you're cutting for has that budget. I would wager SpinTV has the biggest budget (though it's still certainly not "big") and we couldn't afford to do that. We did this all the time when I shot and edited for a news station, but then again...different ballgame there.

Also tournaments are on weekends, so you'd have to mail out monday, they'd get it tuesday. They'd need the day to cut it, so they mail back wednesday, you'd get it thursday to proof and polish, it'd be up by friday. That's still 5 days. It's quicker to just do it yourself, because like you said, you don't really need a creative eye the camera positioning should have done all the work for you.

A compent editor will be able to look at some of your previous production and easily recreate that presentation. Especially if you give them creative assets and have a short discussion beforehand.

I'm not suggesting you send out your footage to a random rube with iMovie.

I'd think we could cut out the 'mail back' and 'proof and polish' steps if you found somebody you trust.

Realistically... you could have a Youtube link on Tuesday night for proofing and any last minute changes and adjustments could be made for a Wednesday morning publish time.

For most producers it probably wouldn't speed things up, but it may for CCDG. I think using a premium file transfer service like adobe, hightail, etc. and sending overnight would make 9 holes at a time do able.

FWIW I use dropbox, but if one of those services are superior I'm open to switching.

You are definitely correct. I have a ton of footage sitting in my backlog, simply because I don't have enough time to edit. I will definitely take you up on your generous offer. PM coming after I get home from work :)
