On Sunday, I was scrolling through the channels. It was raining, so I couldn't go out and play. I came to ESPN and they had on Table Tennis. TABLE TENNIS?

They will run that and they will not show some clips from Disc Golf Monthly? Heck its already produced, all they have to do is run the tape? Damn it , that makes no sense.

I personally blame Forest Gump... I think the best way to get on ESPN is to have a Pro player enter the Poker World Series main event in Vegas. They always do little side things on players and I would think a pro disc golfer would one they would be willing to show.

Great idea for another way for the PDGA to misuse our dues $$: fly Brian Graham to Vegas & pay his $10,000 entry into the Main Event. Dr. John Duesler should be flown in, as well (on PDGA's nickel, of course), to document the whole thing.

lol I didn't say anything about the PDGA getting involved.

You didn't, but I figure why should the PDGA brass turn down more free vacations under the guise of "growing the sport"? True, Vegas is not exactly Japan, but hey, another feebly-justifiable freebie is a freebie just the same.

Dang, there's some bitter folks out there. Who cares what's on ESPN? Either watch it or turn it off and go play. Not only does Table Tennis have Forrest Gump in its corner, it also has that crappy Christopher Walken movie from a few years back. Table Tennis is a well-known and socially accepted sport when compared to disc golf.

If you want to grow the sport, you need to get Bruce Willis and Chris Rock to make a disc golf movie.

Forget about glitzy media exposure. The most effective ways to grow the sport are:
1) Install a course yourself on private land
2) Convince a locality to install a course on public land
3) Introduce a kid (or kids) to the game play with him (or them) regularly

I think if we wanna grow the sport T.V. wise the attention needs to be more towards the amateur side of the sport. And i dont mean us "amateurs" but the top rated amateurs.

Nude disc golf might get some attention...maybe not the attention you want...but Im just sayin'...want publicity and have a crappy coffee shop? Start a topless coffee shop! Etc etc...

Get enough people playing nude disc golf and you might even get on Playboy or Art Mann Presents.

I tried that in Hickory... I got arrested and now I am on the sex offender registry... How was I supposed to know there was a girl scout thing going on??

Oh, they'll gladly run that tape, just as soon as DGM or some other generous sponsor cuts them a nice check in the low six figures for airing it. That may be one reason that you saw table tennis being aired.

You think about it in that respect, it makes perfect sense.

most if not all are(U.S.) major professional sports got their start from a large amateur fan base.

What i think is funny is the the words "Pro Disc Golfer"

I hear ya. I got interstate kidnapping charges because there was a bake sale with $2 brownies so I grabbed 5 of them, threw them in my candy van and slapped a tenner on the counter...apparently that isn't what they were talking about.

The problem is all the sponsers moneys are going to payout;)

Using Pro in the same way people use pro for photographers I would say there are maybe 7-8 Pro disc golfers in the world. (People that live off their disc golf earnings)

I would say that I am not suprised. I myself am an avid table tennis player so I personally would much rather watch table tennis than disc golf, at least most of the time. The few disc golf dealies I've seen have been on youtube, and I was not really that impressed. Too much walking and thinking. When you watch ball golf on t.v., you just see one shot, then another shot. When I saw disc golf, you had to watch them walking too, and when they throw it wasn't too easy to see the disc either.
This being said, I would say I have probably seen every disc golf ace on youtube...time to check google vids
