The Worst Disc Golf Advertising Campaign Ever!!!

Ok just so we are clear. Was this or wasnt this a good ad? Ive heard a bunch of guys defend the dude as a person. But I still havent got a consensus on whether it was a successful use of adverstising space.

I personally find it on the suck side but with nearly 1600 views of this thread, I declare it a success.

well the kids are pretty cute and i signed up for his news letter so i say it is a decent ad. always willing to try out a new disc so when these are available i will probably look into them. fewer strokes per round and all that kinda stuff sounds good to me

I think in a round about way, this was probably way more successful than the guy ever hoped for! I know I looked at their website, and who knows when I would have ever heard of them.

Spring, you should charge this guy for all the great advertising you've done for him on this sight. Or perhaps you already have and this is just a brilliant advertising scheme.

and why is everyone emailing him about FREE discs...JUST because hes starting to mold them you aren't willing to toss him some money? I would be more then happy to pay like 5 bucks a disc for the new molds..hell I probably will if he asks me! We will see when I get in contact with him some more...

Actually, can you think of a better marketing tool than selecting a few experienced players on some major disc golf forums and sending them some prototype discs?

Let's face it, the advertising opportunities are pretty limited in this sport. For the price it cost for an ad in the magazine they could have sent out some discs and gotten a better bang for their buck.

I wish them all the best and hope their business succeeds.

I signed up for the newsletter too. Everyone loves an underdog, right?

I think think the kids are supposed to represent the 'family business' thing, but slightly misses the target (hyzers too much?). If I saw the ad in a magazine I would think summer camp or day care and completely ignore it. Anyway I wish ABC Discs the best of luck and hope to try their product soon. :)

Original post of this thread quoted here:

"So I'm sitting on my toilet reading my newest issue of DiscGolfer and after about the fifteenth time reading it an add finally catches my eye. At first I think it is an add for a daycare or maybe a summer camp. But no it is actually an add for a new disc manufacturer called ABC Discs. Now if anyone has seen this add then you know what Im talking about, it has a bunch of kids holding crudely made lettering and cheap looking discs with letters written on them in Sharpie spelling out... you guessed it ABC Discs. Now I may be coming off like an add snob but I really dont think this is the best way of advertising campaign for a new disc company. Hell is it really that hard to come up with a decent logo and some cool slogan like "ABC Discs... We make Innova and Discraft our Bitches". No instead I get this kiddy add that I truly didn't even notice till I was on the tail end of a monster crap. I of course went and checked out their website to see there discs and was even more let down to see that it is one page with a space where you can enter your email address so they can send you information on their discs. Discs mind you that should be releasing this month."

Thanks for the insight Terry.

You have clearly made up your mind as to just how good or bad this company is going to be. You have already nailed down and honed in your assessment and there is no where else to go from here. Needless to say, it seems like you have spent a good amount of time developing this assessment all for something you have already deemed inferior. Sounds like a case of wasting a bunch of time just to be negative about a product you've already dismissed. You also say how the "add" (incorrect homonym used by you) is basically junk but yet you came out to a discussion board to discuss just that - the ad. Anyone else here smell irony?

I wish this company or any other disc golf company the best of luck in their endeavors. It takes a great deal of courage, experience, and dedication to the game to create any product or service which is made available to the disc golf family.

i like seeing people trash the magazine also..like they could do any better? and seriously...add? how many numbskulls used add as short for advertisement...good chuckles

I could care less about their ad., if they make great discs then word will spread and people, including myself, will buy them.

When did I trash the magazine? I fail to see a single disparaging remark about DiscGolfer magazine in any of my comments. What I did say was that I had read it 15 times on the toilet which I think would say that I enjoy the magazine. As far as typing "add" instead of "ad" well typos do happen to us "numbskulls" and we all aren't as perfect as the often maligned, jackass 80played.

becuase he has a few LOCAL people that are just as experienced to throw them and test them out...we are getting our hands on a few proto-types before my tournament....IF you guys are curious about his discs you can come to Northern IN, nov 15th and come get some at a B-tier event I am TDing....he will have all of his molds there for payout along with players packages....I can tell you how they fly in a few weeks when I get my hands on the prototypes...anyways, dan's company wants to make the farthest flying disc on the market and I will tell you just how far it gets thrown after the distance competition....

it really is a pretty poorly done magazine.
i do journalism and photography and find myself laughing while reading a few of the poorly written articles (have you read any of the Worlds write ups? lawlz).
i am thankful for the magazine but it could definitely be done way better. it was obvious in the last issue that very little time was put into the issue

Wow, aiming high from the jump.

If he makes a good mid and fairway I will buy.

yep! lol...I will let you guys know...he wants to make the farthest disc with 0 fade...he has done his physics and knows its all about weight displacement in the rim...we will see!!! like I said ill get my hands on them soon....plus a local guy is going to launch it farthest he can (he can throw 500ft flat easily)

Sounds good, I am sure I still don't have the arm for it though.
